    I'm a nurse and I don't like people.

I agree - all my coworkers are pretty genuine. A lot of times, its the patients that I find fake (especially the drug seekers. Their attempts to manipulate the staff irritate me to no

    I'm a nurse and I don't like people.

^ This. And the occasional ER patient you really, really want to ask "Now, you put what up where? What the were you thinking?" I don't really like people at that point anymore
  3. We had a new-grad LPN (still in school for her RN) pass meds. The fit was hitting the shan with critical patients and very needy swing beds, call lights were going off left and right, the two RNs and...

    Adequacy of orientation

Same here. I was hired on the same day my license came through, and in two weeks I was assessing my own ER patients, shipping out my own critical patients, and taking my own med-surg / ICU patient...

    Calling yourself an RN

Our school had us sign as 'RN-S'. Compliance with this was never an issue with my cohort. And I totally agree - the first time I was able to sign something as an RN it was a huge head

    Calling yourself an RN

The state board news letter in my state includes discipline cases. I've seen about 1/2-dozen cases with each quarterly issue naming the offender, the offense of impersonating an RN (includes...

    I.V.Albumin 25%

We just run it by gravity every time in all the units I work in (ER, ICU, Med/Surg). Usually it's wide open, with very few (very rare)

    Higher Calling

OK, I said I'd get off the ride, but it seems like this thread is now more about the actual topic rather than, well, the OP. The payment for services rendered is what "work" is all about, but having a...

    Nurse Portfolio Question

Ok, I'm going to display my ignorance for all to see . . . I'm seeing portfolios being discussed for multiple purposes (Clinical Ladder, CEU Audit, School assignments). Is this all the same portfolio?...

    Crutches and Clinicals

This is just off the cuff . . . What if your instructor had you do chart audits, lab reviews, order verifications, patient admission/discharge flowsheets, and other RN-level administrative work...
  14. Ahhhh! You used all caps! You so mean! My feelings are hurted! Bullying! Bullying! In all seriousness, yes - there is a place for brutal honesty when the thread originator simply isn't ("getting it")...

    Orientation Drama for Your Momma

^^ This (both PP's). YOU'RE the charge nurse where these students are concerned. They should not be able to move a finger without going through you first. Both the students and the clinical instructor...

    English (Career) Assignment

I'm sorry, but I won't be providing my name to be used as a reference for 1) an interview that never happened, 2) includes statements I never made (refer to above), and 3) requires me to give out my...

    Higher Calling

The answer to the question is No - nursing is not a calling but a career (and one of the more profitable ones at that). End of story. I was never told anything about a higher calling - otherwise I'd...

Starting to think there should be some limits...

In a Napoleon Dynamite voice: "No . . . GOSH!!!" Or even better, when the OP on those threads flames up and starts on a warpath. Sheesh, people, we'd love to help but we won't be spoon-feeding

RNs!!!! Did you fail Any classes???

Same here. My program was very competitive, and the only two students that failed a single course had to wave goodbye to the whole program. Personally, no fails and passed NCLEX on attempt #1, 76...
  25. ^^ This (emphasis mine). If Med-Surg is slowly killing you, get out as soon as you can land another offer. But don't ignore the advice to seek assistance! All the best of luck to
