  1. Enough is Enough

Sure, let's bake cookies so the aroma can torture the pts who are NPO!! I can just smell those cookies while cleaning up after a GI bleed! For pete's sake, we'd get in trouble with JHACO just for having a toaster, let alone an oven!!!
  2. Forced to be charge without the pay???

This just takes the cake! Charging without ANY patients is still the equivalent of a full load at times! I usually have 1-2 pts when I charge, day or night, and though I do my best, those pts do not receive the care that I would prefer to give! Inc...
  3. Had a male pt in his 70's with peritonitis s/p lap chole. Alert, oriented but stoic, the type that will never tell you if he's uncomfortable. So his crit was 20 and I got the anticipated order for PRBCS, two units. The doc wanted each unit infused...
  4. Whatever happened to rules likes these?

I would be happy if pts/families understood just one rule.....This Is A Hospital, NOT A HOTEL!!!
  5. Whoever invented scrubs, standup!

I confess.....I do have Spongebob scrubs that I wear once in a while. I work with a largely geriatric population and get many comments on how much they like my scrubs. They say it's a cheerful distraction from the "blah" colors of the hospital.
  6. Who Was Nurse Rachett????

Sorry to be a little nit-picky here but her last name is Ratched.
  7. Transfusion reaction-textbook? You tell me

    Thanks for the replies!!
  8. YEAH THAT!!!!! I've been two hours over the last four shifts just to FINISH CHARTING!!!! Last night was the last straw!! My shift ended at 7pm and at 9:30pm, I said, forget this!! I probably missed some vital charting BUT I DIDN"T CARE!!! Seriously...
  9. This just made my day!!!!

I usually don't have much time to browse here but I had to post this! Yesterday, I got pulled from my medical floor down to the orthopedic surgery floor (yikes!!). I was really sweatin' it since my anxiety tends to spiral once out of my comfort zone....
  10. I have four kids, 8,6,3, and four months. I started working M/S two years ago and I've been doing 50/50. I think this has been a great schedule!! The night shift pace is usually awesome, a little slower but busy enough to keep me awake. Just when I'...
  11. I am a former poster to this site but I've gone so long between posts that I've had to change my user name a couple of times! (formerly known as Waggy). I love this site but don't get to spend much time here but today, I have to post! I've been an ...
  12. "Code blue" = deer in the headlights!

You guys are awesome! Thanks for your words of support. It's always nice to have a sounding board! ACLS is next on my cert list! I just recently finished Tele so I'm a little more comfortable. I wasn't so much embarrassed as I was frustrated at my i...
  13. Tongue tie

Hi all! I'm an RN in geriatrics so my OB knowledge is limited but I've done so much research about breastfeeding, I should be an LC. Both my son and daughter (separate births) were born tongue-tied (tip of tongue attached to gum by extra frenulum). T...
  14. does anyone check this board

Hi there! I live in Farmington (originally from SLC) and used to frequent this site often until my third child was born. Since then, I've had no life! My former user name was Waggy but for some reason, it doesn't work anymore so now I'm MilhouseRN. I...
  15. Yummy Nutritious Breakfast For Nurses!

That sounds SOOO good!! Healthy and sweet in the right way! I love w.w. bread, natural peanut butter, too, especially with a sliced banana on top!!! My absolute favorite breakfast is peanut butter toast with a fruit shake made with 1%milk, vanilla yo...
  16. Anyone ever try the South Beach Diet?

Hi all! Been away from the BB for a month. I actually started the SB diet six weeks ago and had made it four days then found out I was pregnant!! :) I didn't want to take any chances so I stopped restricting carbs. It was actually easier than I had...
  17. Betadine? Alcohol? (one, the other, or both?)

I was taught alcohol first then betadyne which I do for PICC changes but for peripherals I use only alcohol. And mostly for the fact that betadyne diminishes my view and I can't locate the veins as well so I usually end up wiping most of it off anywa...
  18. Sorry, I know this is not a new subject but I really need my Allnurses' friends' support!!:) I've worked the same job (RN on geri rehab floor) for four years, mostly part-time pms and PRN days. I started right out of school and have no other experie...
  19. Most Embarassing Moment

I was in charge of one of my church's women's meetings and near its conclusion, I was standing up front to make some final announcements. I originally intended to say,"Thank you for your comments" but somehow ended up saying, "Thank you for your c...
  20. Joke Poker - Bottled Blondes

Definition of ETERNITY: Four bottled-blondes at a four-way stop! :chuckle
  21. Anxiety and low self-esteem

Honey, I could've written this post myself! This is exactly how I've been feeling. I graduated 3 years ago and I've been mostly part-time and prn since then so I could be home with my young children. So I feel like I never have any consistent experie...
  22. Full code status in LTC

On my 75th birthday, my present to myself will be a tattoo on my chest that reads, DNR. That should clarify any doubts!!! ;)
  23. Fear vs Gut instinct...need advice...

Hoolahan, your gut feeling is significant! My mom had to work while I was a teenager and how I wish she could have been home. I would've avoided so much trouble and made MUCH better choices! I know it's not glamorous to be home but it really is the ...
  24. What is your passion?

Someday I would love to invent a device that would attach to the bottom of my esophagus and exit through my skin and would allow me to eat all the chocolate I wanted though never entering my tummy!!!! Maybe something like a "double-lumen esophagus"...
  25. Tongue tie

I recently talked to the LC at the hospital I delivered at and she says a new policy has given the doctors the OK to clip tongue-ties at the hospital after birth. I know the LCs have been really pushing for this and the docs are realizing the benefi...
