Anyone work in this specialty? I will be working on a neuro/oncology floor and have no idea what to expect. Is this a normal combination of specialties? It seems a little strange to me...

Thanks! Your info helps. I do know they'll be getting chemo and I'll need to be chemo certified after a year. Other than that, I don't know much yet about the unit. I have to take some hospital provided classes and get 6 weeks on the floor orientatio...

I am right there with ya, but I hate to tell you.....you won't get very far as a new grad BSN, either. I have had my BSN since 2013 and still can't get into a hospital....always passed over for someone with more experience, and it sucks. My LPN exper...

Ah....good luck educating HR. They already have a job, so they don't care! I've run into this many, many times! I have gone to bypassing HR and going directly to the hiring manager. Poor HR is so overloaded (sarcasm). I almost missed out on a job fai...

These days THIS is what you need to do! I signed up for a job fair, and HR emailed me back saying I didn't have the one year they required in order to be "invited" to the job fair. I called them back and said oh yes I do....they reviewed my resume an...

Chances are, she was a MA, not a nurse, unless you saw her title. My MD's office only has MA's and they are called "nurses" by the staff, my PCP included. I don't consider this abuse or neglect.....sounds like she was trying to assess how urgent the...
Should they give you a degree for free? I went to UoP and did their LPN-BSN program, and I have a counselor helping me find jobs before I landed this one I am starting. Of COURSE they want your money. Money makes the world go round. So, the question...

Wooohooo!! Also, keep in mind, even though you know CONTENT you have to be able to figure out what the question is asking. It's not like the questions in school where the answers are all cut and dried. I made that mistake when I took mine the first t...
Hang in there. It does get better. Try to give it at least a year. I spent 6 in LTC as an LPN and was charge on the medicare unit with 15-20 patients because the RN in house didn't want to do it. The first month will be totally overwhelming, but aft...
I did not. All my time as a patient was spent in L&D, and PP. Never bothered me. I enjoyed the pampering and attention. And the warm blankets. I can't tell you how nice a warm blanket is! I was a little worried when the OB nurse didn't get my IV...

I worked f/t through my LPN-BSN program, with 4 kids and a hubby who also worked, and we hired a babysitter. For the first year, I worked doubles on the weekend in a nursing home....that allowed me to be home more with the kids. For the last year, I ...
I work 10p-6a 3 nights a week, and 8p-6a one night a week. After my shift, I go home, sleep 4-6 hours, get up for 2-3 hours, eat, then go back to sleep until an hour before I need to go to work. In about 3 weeks, I start a new job.....OFF nights!

I am currently at work now, PDN adult case, not pediatric. I have Verizon, and a hotspot added to my plan for $20 a month. It is a total life saver! Get a bigger thermos. I don't have access to a microwave, either, and I manage. I've gained weight on...
Well, I know HR's are busy....but so are we. They also get an hour for lunch and work 8-5 M-F. If you can't take 2 seconds to return a phone call/email saying the positions been filled (after I call/email to ask).....then I am better off not working...
Thanks, twoyearnurse. I am a girl. :) I think another reason my dad stays clean is because he manages a lot of sobriety houses....he's a great role model for those just beginning to stay drug free.
