  1. When you finally get the c-diff smell off your hands...even though you wore gloves!!
  2. 1. A nursing student, there is always the way you learned in school and the "real world" way. 2. Sometimes the worst patients teach us the most. 3. Your day will never go as planned. 4. You will always remember your first patient death. 5. All it takes is one patient to tell you they appreciate you to make your day better.
  3. I actually signed up for one this Saturday in Towson.
  4. I can't find any CPR classes close by before May 1st!!! Abingdon Fire doesn't have one until after May 1st. Anyone find one???
  5. Does anyone still need to get CPR certified? I don't know where to fin a class before May 1!!
  6. Good idea! I am going to start a Facebook private page for us, under HCC WEA 2015
  7. So it sounds like pretty much everyone on here got in!! We are going to be getting to know each other very well. My name is Karen, and I am signing up afor the Wednesday lab. What about everyone else?
  8. I had Rapazzo for biology, she's tough!
  9. I think I had like 24 or 25. I don't think she was really supposed to tell me but she said because they were so behind she understands why people would want to know! I'm wondering if I know any of you from other classes. I had Latimer A for A&P and Longdo for micro.
  10. Ok guys so I called a woman named Joann Day who is the administration assistants in the nursing department and asked if the acceptance letters had been sent yet and she said they were really behind so it would probably be another 2 weeks, but she could check and see if you were on the list and I'M IN!!!!!! Give her a call, her number is in the directory. Good luck!!!
  11. Mine hasn't changed:no:
  12. I am dying!!! I really thought we would know by now. I am tthinking of calling tomorrow, but don't know who to call. I read on another older blog that they got a call first asking if they were still interested. ReRegistration starts this Thursday so I figured they have to let us know by then!
  13. Not yet, but everyday I run to the mailbox! I had applied to the regular program for spring, knowing that I would not be able to attend due to work, but mainly to get and extra point, but I ended up getting accepted!!! It was so hard to turn it down, knowing that it's harder to get into the WEA program. I have a good friend that started in the spring and has been showing me what she is learning do I can be better prepared. I am just so anxious and impatient!!!
  14. I did study but nothing crazy. I found this posting from a girl that really detailed what you would need to study and that's what I used. It really was pretty spot on as far as what topics were on the test. https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/how-i-passed-804222.html The math was a lot of multiplication and nothing real hard. The science part the the hardest for me, lots of chemistry type questions and cells and stuff. I thought I did better then I did on the math part, but overall it only took me 2 hours to finish.
  15. Thanks-but I have all my credits done except for Microbiology which I am taking this fall. I just took the TEAS test this week and got a 73.3, but from what I understand, that's pretty average. I'm fine with it, it's such a stupid test anyway!!
  16. Red Pump...my friend Laura Olson works there!!! Do you have a psychology degree? What made you want to become a nurse? Do you think you would want to be a psychiatric nurse? I didn't know that you can take any of the BSN classes online-but I am assuming that you need to have your AA before you can take any?? I am done all my classes after Micro, so for the spring, I don't need to take anything, but I guess if I was able to do something towards by BSN, I might do that. I'm glad that you like Mr. Longdo-and love that he tapes his lectures! I am really not good at biology so I'm scared about this class, I really want to get an A. I think I am more nervous about my son going to middle school then he is!!! I'm sure it will be an adjustment for him, but they ease them into it, so that's good. I have a harder time doing his homework sometimes more then mine!!
  17. So you are planning on getting your BSN right after your AA? How are you doing that? I know that its probably the best thing for me to do, but I don't know if I am going to go for my BSN, at least not right away. I know that will limit my job opportunities but there are still many other nursing jobs that don't require it, or will help pay for it. I've worked for a health insurance company for the last 17 years and so am pretty familiar with medical terminology, treatment plan, diagnosis's and procedures--at least from a financial point of view. I might try to find something that I can incorporate my insurance knowledge along with my RN. I am just so ready to be done with these stupid pre-requisites!! I feel like I've been doing them forever and I just want to start the program and get going! I really appreciate all your information, you have answered so many questions of mine and being that you are one step ahead of me, really helps me prepare! You said you work for HCPS-are you a teacher? What school--my kids go to Forest Lakes and one is starting middle school at Fallston this year.
  18. Wow-thank you both for such good information!! I feel like I have been kind of going at this blind until now. I haven't been able to attend any of the nursing seminars, although I hope to attend one in the fall if they have it. I am taking A&P II with Dr. Latimer at night and then will be taking Micro with Longdo. The A&P summer class has been pretty intense, having tests every other week and having only a week or so to learn a bunch of info, but I'm doing okay with it. I should have at least 23-24 points by the time I apply, if I can get an A in the next 2 classes. I just signed up to take the TEAS test, but am not really stressing over it since it seems that most people are only earning 1 point for that anyways. I am lucky because I work from home and have for the last 11 years, so even though I have to work certain hours, I still have more flexibility then if I worked outside the home. Plus no travel time, so I can get to classes on time. It's good that you get a little break in between semesters, to breathe again, I guess! I am most worried about the clinical hours on the weekends and how it will interfere with my family time. I have 2 boys ages 8 and 11, and they already miss me when I go to school at night!! Do you have clinicals every Saturday and Sunday? Are some semesters less clinical hours? How early did you find out that you were accepted into the WEA program?
  19. Thank you so much for all of your information!!! I think that's all the questions I have for now--but you really helped me get a better understanding of the program. Good luck to you!!!!
  20. So how long does the first semester last? Do you have any breaks in between semesters at all? How much of the A & P II and Microbiology am I going to need to really know for that?
  21. Thank you so much!!! Are the majority of the people in the class older? I am 37 and this is a career change for me. What kinds of things do you learn and do in the first semester?
  22. Thank you so much for all the information--makes me feel a little more prepared. Did you get in on the first try? How was your TEAS score? You said for the first semester one day is from 3-9:30--is that one class?? How many people are in your class? How does the clinical work-do you all go as one big group? Sorry for all the questions!!!
  23. Hello! I will be applying for the 2015 WEA program at HCC. I am currently taking A&P 2 this summer and will be taking microbiology in the fall. Looking to see if anyone else is applying.
  24. Hello! I am going to be applying to the WEA program for 2015. I would love any information on the program, how the schedule is, what kind of things you are doing, etc. I am just finishing up A&P 2 this summer, and then taking microbiology in the fall. I am 37 years old and will have to work full time at home during the day.
