2015 Harford Comm College WEA program

Published

Hello! I will be applying for the 2015 WEA program at HCC. I am currently taking A&P 2 this summer and will be taking microbiology in the fall. Looking to see if anyone else is applying.

Hello kmurdy, I will be applying to the 2015 WEA program. I have Dev. Psych and the PE classes to complete but that's it. If I cant take the PE classes at BCCC due to work then I found an online PE course similar to the ones offered at Harford...but they were almost half the cost. If you still need 2 credits of Physical education you can look at New Mexico Junior college. If you have to pay out of county rates at Harford its cheaper to take the course online at the NM school.

Thanks-but I have all my credits done except for Microbiology which I am taking this fall. I just took the TEAS test this week and got a 73.3, but from what I understand, that's pretty average. I'm fine with it, it's such a stupid test anyway!!

Did you study for the TEAS? I haven't taken it yet but I will in the next month or two. Im seeing a lot of posts that have a similar score range. I'm just wondering if I really need to carve out time to study for the test or if it's like the SAT which has a range of general questions that make it hard to "study" for the exam.

I did study but nothing crazy. I found this posting from a girl that really detailed what you would need to study and that's what I used. It really was pretty spot on as far as what topics were on the test.

The math was a lot of multiplication and nothing real hard. The science part the the hardest for me, lots of chemistry type questions and cells and stuff. I thought I did better then I did on the math part, but overall it only took me 2 hours to finish.

Thanks for the link. I will definitely check it out. I just passed the CLEP exam for Developmental Psychology (Yay me!) so I'm slowly checking off those last few things I need to finish. I'll have to remember to come back to this site and post my stats and the acceptance decision for all the future cohorts that are tired of all the 2007-2010 posts that are outdated. Lol. I hope we get to be classmates in the future. Best wishes for Micro! : )

Hi, I also plan on applying to HCCs 2015 accelerated program but am not sure whether to apply for the WEA or day accelerated. Does anyone know if one is harder to get into than the other? I already took the TEAS but am considering retaking to try for a higher score, though I am not sure if HCC takes the best of two scores or if they average the test scores? Any advice on the application process is helpful!

Hello Sarah. From what I've read on previous posts and at the Information Session on campus, the WEA gets the most applicants. It seems like you need at least 21 points to have a good chance of acceptance. The higher your points, the better your chances. I think I read that HCC takes the highest TEAS. Depending on where you are points wise you may not need to take it again. Also, I learned at the Information Session that your application must have copies of all transcripts even though the college may all ready have it on file. I don't recall if you have to do it even if you took all your prereqs there, I took mine elsewhere so I was paying more attention about transfer students. Hope this was helpful.

Hi! I am also applying for the Day accelerated/weekend accelerated. I got a 75% on the TEAS, my pre nursing GPA is 3.32. I calculated my points out of 30 and only have 19 :( I completed all prerequisite classes. I don't think I'll get in :/ I also heard 21 points or above is competitive.

Hi cmg9311. Don't get too discouraged, there are people who get accepted that don't take the seat due to a number of reasons. Also, if you are flexible to complete the day accelerated then you have more chances. Thankfully Harford lets you select multiple options....unlike CCBC. Anyhow, I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this thread. Usually when the app opens in November more people start posting on allnurses.com. I guess everyone is going to CCBC or BCCC. Good news for us I guess. Perhaps once decisions are made more people will write so we can all connect a bit before classes begin. I'm getting so excited. Only a few months away from finding out if this 10yr old goal of mine is going to be fulfilled in 2015!

I'm nervous too. Do people find out usually in March? I am able to do the day accelerated or weekend accelerated, which is a good thing!

Im also surprised many people aren't writing in this thread. Past threads had more life than this one!

why would more people be applying to CCBC or BCCC?

Looking at old posts it seems like people hear back mid-March or later. That makes sense considering you can turn in an app through mid-February. I was hoping there would be more buzz by now, wanted to try and connect with others who might be starting. I guess I'll have to wait until orientation...assuming I get in. My points are looking pretty good so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. As far as CCBC goes, I saw a thread from 2012 which had several pages of comments so I thought it might be a popular program. If fewer people apply to HCC's program then it works out better for us anyway. Good luck to everyone!
