    Advice please?

Thank you both! I accepted the offer from my first interview and will be cancelling my 2nd interview. I felt like if I didn't accept their offer and then didn't get an offer from the second place, I would be up a certain creek without a paddle! Hopefully this doesn't ruin my chances in the future if I would like to apply again.

    Advice please?

Hey guys! So I got certified at the beginning of this month and started looking for a job. I had 1 interview and then another facility called the same afternoon to set up another interview. The next day, the first place I interviewed at called and offered me a PT position. So do I cancel the other interview? Or do I still go and explain to them that I've been offered a position elsewhere? I really don't want to burn any bridges with anyone! Thanks so much for any and all input!

    only guy in my class

My father has been a male nurse for 30 years, He is exceptional at what he does and I hope I can be as great a nurse as he is someday! Don't worry about the stereotypical "Only women should be nurses" humble jumble! If this is the direction you want to be going, Keep at it!! All the best to you!

    cna coworker not very helpful

Hey there! :) First off, Maybe you could have handled the conversation with your co-worker a little bit better? Instead of saying "you didn't help me, so I'm not going to help you" You could try and come together and decide on an action plan. Get into a flow, maybe alternate difficult to transfer residents so *hopefully* you both would be able to come to each others aid when needed. Or something, If your co-worker is willing to talk things over with you! If not, definitely follow the chain of command. Everyone needs to work together as a team...Best of luck to you, hun!

    Are all CNAs mean

My very first day of clinicals, me and my fellow classmates were thrown to the wolves...The CNA's figured because we, the students were there, they could go about their business with a lighter workload. They never came back to check on us, they didn't tell us anything about the patients, It was a huge mess! There were 10 students and we were paired in partners of 2, our poor instructor was running herself ragged trying to help all of us ( She always had to be present for 2 person assists, hoyer lifts, etc. ) It was an incredibly rough start to clinicals! Haha! No, not all CNA's are mean, but they are incredibly busy and it has to be kinda hard having students running around messing up their "normal routine" Even the CNA's that I worked with during clinicals weren't mean, But I would only see them when we first arrived and most of the time at the end of the day...At first I thought it was very rude, how could they not be there when we needed help? After all, we were just students! But once I experienced how hectic it can be working in a LTC, I understood a little better and felt bad for thinking they were horrible! Hope things get better for you! All the best! :)

    White scrubs?

I got my scrubs at walmart because of the price, I knew after clinicals I was never going to wear white on white so I didn't want to spend a ton and I got my shoes on sale at payless! Best of luck! :)

    Starting CNA Classes tomorrow :)!!!!

Hey there! Congratulations on your classes! I agree that it goes by SUPER fast! I started mine on the 19th of june and I have about 2 weeks left! But it is SO much fun! My very first day got off to a rough start, before my classes began I had to get a physical and 2 step ppd test, which I did, but my doctors office apparently didn't administer the test the way they were supposed to...My instructor said I may not be able to take the course, I was devastated! But her boss said it would be ok if I stayed, thank goodness! I wasn't to fond of my instructor at first, but I love her now! LOL! Best of luck to you!!

I'm starting my CNA course on Thursday! (:

Thank you so much! Today is my fourth day of class and it's been great so far! Oh my goodness! That must have been difficult, having someone contradict everything that your instructor has been pounding into your head! I'm glad your second day was better! We start our clinicals next week in an LTC facility, I'm super excited but also nervous! Best of luck to you!

Right Proton!? She's got some GREAT advice! Thank you so much! I've always wanted a career in the medical field! Jess, Im so sorry to hear about your father *Hugs* My dad is my inspiration, I hope I can be half the nurse that he is. I will look into volunteer work for sure! That would definitely help! :) I worked with people with disabilities for a year and a half, but the company was...kind of a joke and ended up getting shut down I really don't want to put them down as previous experience since they don't exist anymore...Plus with the way things were I didn't leave on the best of terms I am so thankful for all of your help and suggestions! Your going to make a stupendous nurse!

I'm starting my CNA course on Thursday! (:

That is a great suggestion!! I will definitely ask if I can use them as references! That's another one of my worries, finding work with no experience after everything is said and done! My dad is a Hospice nurse and is always telling me they're hiring, but they require at least 1 years experience..I've seen alot of places saying the same thing! Thank you so much for the suggestions!! :)

Thank you SO much! I think the skills lab is what's worrying me the most! Since I've found this site and have been reading through the threads, it seems like that is the hardest part! I'm definitely going to take a TON of notes and give your studying technique a try! :)
