About chevygirl1987

chevygirl1987 has 10 years experience and specializes in Stepdown, PCCN.

I am an RN on a cardiac stepdown unit. I have a lovely child who definitely keeps me on my toes, she got the contrarian aspect of both her dad and me. I am continuing my education and will be beginning FNP school soon. I love nursing, but am discouraged with the changes at the bedside and that my hospital telling me that my BS in biochem makes me an inferior nurse, thats a direct quote. I dont have cable and dont watch much TV but I love reading and sewing and being outside.

For me it was when I got up and chastised a group of loud teens in a movie theatre. Oh, lord, I'm THAT old lady.
  2. Nurse in a bar... Should you help?

I don't think my license would be jeopardized for initiating CPR. I've had some form of CPR certification for nearly 30 years, and have used it more times than I care to think about. I don't ever drink to excess so I am confident that I could perform...

Sorry, but I'm LOLing. I just had this conversation with someone last week. Her pt was getting more confused and the ammonia was increasing but she was holding lactulose for loose stools. Sigh. To weigh in on topic. I have only ever taken care of...
  10. Drug seekers

I'm not even thinking getting anyone in trouble; people need to be educated. I do stepdown nursing so I'm thinking of all the times nurses hold the diuretic in a pt with little LVEF because the SBP is 96 or don't give the beta blocker to an MI pt wi...

Can you contact the unit manager or nursing Ed for that facility? Not only did she delay care, but if he's a chronic user/opioid dependent/addicted she was risking putting him through withdrawal and the discomfort associated with that. My unit rec...
  12. have bach in biology, adn nursing can I go right to FNP?

My BS is in bio/chem. I have an ASN and have been a nurse for 10 years. I am doing the FNP program at Duke. I know there are others that allow you to skip the BSN step, some may require 1-2 bridge or transition courses. Good luck.

  14. opinions on nurses going on strike

It could. But like Jensmom said, if it is a big concern don't work at a union hospital. My advice if you do choose a union shop is don't cross the line when your coworkers are out there sacrificing pay to get you safer staffing or health insurance w...
