  1. what to expect as new faculty?

It all depends on which school you are teaching for. I taught for a school in Indiana that was just starting a program at a satellite campus. It was a horrible experience. Look at who your program chair/department head is, his or her qualification...
  2. PHS pay rates in Alabama

CMS just got the contract for Alabama. I am an HSA with them. Don't do it with them! PHS was here before CMS took over and I hear it was a much smoother operation. I am not sure about the pay in Alabama, because every state is different, but in m...
  3. PLEASE don't do it!

I agree with you. You have to think about past, present, and future activities. I work in a mail facility. Some of the prisoners have told us they attract women because they pay attention. They know who is having problems at home, who is lonely, ...
  4. Mrsa

I agree - Bactrim and Rifampin are working well for us. Also, talk to operations about wiping everything down on the dorms, weights, weight room, etc. Also, see about educating the prisoners and the non-medical staff about the disease. It seemed t...
  5. Question about hs meds...

At my facility, unless the prisoners are on the infirmary they get meds tid. Some meds are allowed to be kept on their persons, but controlled substances and meds with a high potential for abuse are always from the pill line. Narcotic pain meds are...
  6. NCLEX urban legends

I would add that no certain state has a harder or easier exam than any other state. Candidates used to call in all the time saying they heard such-n-such state had the hardest exam, or such-n-such state had the easiest exam.
  7. NCLEX urban legends

I did work for them, and you're right - it's bunk
  8. Question about how to do math for NCLEX

raremoon is right. There will be instructions that tell you how many decimal places to use. If you put in too many decimal places you will get a prompt to use the correct number of decimal places.
  9. NCLEX Number of Questions and Clarification

This information was very good. Just one thing, though: There are about 10,000 questions available for the RN exam and about 8500 available for the PN exam at any given time. Dr. Julian doesn't work for NCSBN so she wouldn't have known that.
  10. NCLEX Number of Questions and Clarification

Math questions are not a test plan category, so no, you don't have to have 5%-11% of your exam by math questions.
  11. are "select all" questions the upper level type?

    :yeahthat:
  12. Generally, the priority questions are harder, but remember: Priority questions are at a higher cognitive level, but not necessarily more difficult. It all depends on how they test out psychometrically. For example, if you have to choose who you ar...
  13. can you get old nclex exams?

No, it's not true. Doing so would compromise the integrity of the test pool and that is something that NCSBN takes very VERY seriously. Like Eric said, those questions get used over and over again. There are some questions in the pool still being...
  14. STATISTICS on PASSING or NOT the NCLEX?

the pass rate is lower for repeat nclex candidates. the longer you wait to take the nclex, the lower your chances of passing are. ncsbn did a study in 2002 that showed that. by the time you get to 6 months, your chances of passing drop to the 40 p...
  15. Percentage to pass in your state?

The people working in the testing centers have nothing to do with developing the exams or setting the passing standard. They only assist in making sure the exam is administered in a consistent manner. Period. I don't care if the woman handed you a...
  16. study guides and actual nclex questions????

NCSBN owns and develops the NCLEX exams, so it stands to reason that the NCSBN review questions would be the most similar. The style of the review questions will be the same as the style of the actual NCLEX questions.
  17. study guides and actual nclex questions????

No. Items with long stems (the question part) are not written anymore. If there is a long stem item that is being reviewed, it usually gets shortened. In the exams of days gone by, you'd get a scenario and then have to answer several questions abo...
  18. What are the New Pilot Questions?

The pilot questions come from item writers. The questions can be about any number of things. Item writers write the questions based on what is needed from the test plan. The test plan comes from information about current nursing practice. The inf...
  19. Infection Control ... how to study for this???

It's random, but if alot of infection control questions have been written recently, you'll see them alot in the pilot questions.
  20. Infection Control ... how to study for this???

    Go with the CDC guidelines.
  21. Infection Control ... how to study for this???

Make sure you know the difference between droplet and airborn. Alot of candidates mess those up.
  22. About the NCLEX questions

Eric is right; However, I can give you a little more information on how the questions are developed, since that used to be my job. The questions are never totally "changed out." They are reviewed on a regular basis. There are about 10,000 questions...
  23. Correctional Nursing Moral, Attitude

The morale is OK, the attitudes range from very negative to very positive. The staff are much more challenging than the prisoners!
  24. Scary story!

    Everyone's a beauty queen to a prisoner
  25. How hard is Statistics?

I hated math in high school. I LOVE statistics. I have made an A in every stats class I have ever had, and I am in my 4th stats course at the graduate level - 3 of which have been on-line. I believe the key is to KEEP UP. You absolutely can't fal...
