  1. Being on the patient side of the chart will indeed make you an empathetic and compassionate nurse. However, I would strongly encourage you to be solid in your mental/physical recovery before starting nursing school (maybe a year without major proble...
  2. Shoreline Spring 2015

I'm afraid I'm not a good source for how your program will be like because I'm in the 10-quarter cohort and not the 6 quarter. My first 2 quarters are equal to the 1st quarter in the 6-quarter program. I have time to work part-time and sleep enough...
  3. Shoreline Spring 2015

I am a current student and used Health Psychology as a bonus course and it counted. I recall doing a short description, so it doesn't have to be anything lengthy or profound. :-) Good luck, y'all. It is a great program.
  4. Relocating to Seattle Area in Early 2015

I'd say live in Vancouver, WA (cheaper costs of living and no income tax) and work in Portland (more jobs and no sales tax). Welcome to the Northwest no matter what you decide!
  5. Where there is smoke ... there is usually a cigarette

I remember volunteering in a hospital in 1999 and that was the year the smoking room IN the hospital was discontinued. Crazy it was that recent.
  6. Appropriate orientation attire

Yes, ideally, but 75% of my cohort didn't have the forms done. It was sad. Even with the threat of getting kicked out...but the school didn't follow through with that. I didn't say it was one or the other. In my program, having the forms/info was ...
  7. Appropriate orientation attire

Wear business clothing if you want. Most in my orientation wore jeans. It didn't matter. A bigger way to make a great first impression is to have all the required forms completed and documentation! Focus on the forms and then attire.
  8. Shoreline Fall 2014

Has anyone gotten a decision letter? I called last Friday, and she said she was working on them. Anxiously waiting!
  9. Too much to handle?

To boost your credits up to full time, consider taking an online class. Then, you will have more flexibility and be at home more. Also, don't forget the 1 credit (1 day) CPR classes. Best wishes!
  10. Pre-med or Nursing?

I second the PA idea if you want to do actual surgery. They work with a doctor, but are highly trained. (There are neurosurgery PAs).
  11. The best planner/organizer?

Plenty of opinions, so here is mine... Check out the Moleskine line. Very good quality. Plannerisms.com is a blog devoted to planners.
  12. Shoreline Fall 2014

No need for a smartphone. :-) Not allowed in clinical. The reason I asked because some students on AN use them for looking up medications, etc. and find them to be useful (if not essential). I'm happy with my cheap pay-as-you-go phone.
  13. Shoreline Fall 2014

Tripleoxer, I have a couple questions. What are the shoe requirements for clinical? Do you have any clinicals on the weekend? (I hope not.) Do you think a smart phone is essential? I really don't want one, but some people on AN think they are a ne...
  14. Shoreline Fall 2014

Especially my long-haired calico piggies. :-) I put my own ad on Seattle Craigslist under rooms wanted. That way I was able to list exactly what I wanted and let people contact me. (They hide your direct email address.) I'm sure you can find so...

  16. Shoreline Fall 2014

I didn't see your PM until now. No email about it, and not visible until I specifically looked. Room sounds good, but I have 2 guinea pigs who I'm quite attached to. I've been communicating with a lady with a room, so I hope it works out...
  17. Shoreline Fall 2014

It went well, although I think your classmates scared us with the amount of work. It is good going into it with the right mind frame and knowing that a 4.0 likely won't happen and that is okay! My cohort is very diverse, but I think having people f...
  18. Shoreline Fall 2014

I'm in Vancouver, WA area. I haven't been to Seattle in close to 20 years! I got my CPR renewed last week. :-)
  19. Shoreline Fall 2014

Thanks for the info! You would think people who worked hard enough to get into the nursing program would get the documentation/vaccines, etc. I think I have everything ready. I was glad that my titer showed immunity to the hep B series I had in mi...
  20. Shoreline Fall 2014

SeattleJess, How was orientation? I have to wait one more day! Anyone in your cohort looking for a roommate?
  21. Shoreline Fall 2014

Thanks! I appreciate your time to help a couple newbies. How many students are in your cohort?
  22. Shoreline Fall 2014

Under the Nursing 10 quarter course 121, there is a list. It isn't up for your program yet (which I had not checked). I'm going to wait until after orientation to start shopping, but it is fun to look at the list. I have already read an older edit...
  23. Shoreline Fall 2014

If you go to the website and look under bookstore, then textbooks, and select fall term and nursing, there is a list of textbooks. It is long. I'm buying used. This way we can shop around ahead of time. Background check online was $67....
  24. LPN wanting to get RN/BSN

Shoreline has LPN to RN. Don't know more than that.
  25. Shoreline Fall 2014

    Thanks for the advice!
