  1. Unprofessional lactation consultants

I have patients telling me their baby's bottle nipples and pacifiers have disappeared. It turns out that the lactation consultants are very sneaky and throw them away when patients aren't looking. Is that very baby FRIENDLY? No, I don't think so. I f...
  2. Unprofessional lactation consultants

I don't know how to find out if they are IBCLC certified. Can you search for their names online? And it's not one LC. It's unfortunately more than one LC. Another thing making me hesitate in telling management is that I feel like I've emailed a lot a...
  3. Unsure of wanting kids

I figured this would qualify as a stress topic, lol... I always thought of wanting kids someday. But someday has pretty much turned to now. I don't know if I want kids anymore... I mean, the massive amount of responsibility!! That is true commitment....
  4. Mother/Baby Brain Sheets

Different floors do different reports. When I started my job, I created my own brain sheet based on the kind of report was given and the patient care that was needed. Once you start your job, you'll figure out the perfect brain sheet for you. You mig...
  5. med/surg RN who wants to be in OB so bad!!!

Make friends in OB or get former nursing-school classmates who now work in OB to put in a good word for you to their manager. Then get ahold of their manager and give them your resume and cover letter. IT WORKED FOR ME! If you want something badly, i...
  6. Is it just me... or is it really hard to do anything on your days off because you are just so mentally and physically exhausted from work? I am so tired on the days I'm not working that I honestly don't want to do anything but lie on the couch. Being...
  7. Too tired to do anything on days off

Like I said, my blood work is good. It's just nursing... and side effect of birth control pills. :/
  8. It's not birth control. Hobby Lobby gives its employees 16 types of birth control. It's the MORNING-AFTER PILL we're talking about, which shouldn't have even been part of the healthcare act to begin with because it can induce abortion.
  9. Hours of sleep before work

That's a lot more than what I hear from other nurses! I try to come home and have some kind of life before going right back to sleep to do it all over again the next day. HAHA. Oh, btw, add your 8 hours to the poll. :)
  10. Too tired to do anything on days off

My blood work is good. And how is 12-13 hours of being on your feet not considered exercise? Last time I checked, moving around all day is different than lying down all day...
  11. Too tired to do anything on days off

Yeah, I mean I DO do things... like wash dishes, clean, do laundry, cook, etc. I just want to relax on my days off and do nothing. I work at work then work at home. I can't imagine what it'd be like with kids someday. I get 6.5-7 hours of sleep every...
  12. Too tired to do anything on days off

I work days. I have less than 5 years of experience. I eat well. I don't exercise much though. I consider work exercise. I "power walk" a lot at work.
  13. Too tired to do anything on days off

I just found out that it could also be an effect of birth control pills. :/ "tired, non-motivated, and less interested in sex"
  14. Unsure of wanting kids

I really appreciate everyone's input. I like reading your responses. I feel like deep down inside, I want to have kids. I think that it might just be the current moment that I can't imagine having them. Maybe in 2-3 years... but definitely not now. M...
  15. What would help you love your job?

Being staffed and making sure people are doing their job and having the manager listen to your concerns.
  16. Unsure of wanting kids

Thank you guys for making me not feel like a "freak" about a possibility of not having kids. (I feel so hypocritical because I used to feel like people without kids were "freaks" and selfish). And thank you for making me feel like I'm not alone. I do...
  17. Unsure of wanting kids

My heart is telling me to have kids. My brain is the problem. I'm thinking about it too much I think. Maybe I should wait a couple years and see how I feel. I just really enjoy my freedom! I can have days when I don't feel like doing anything! People...
  18. Please send a letter to your Congressman about enacting the bill about having mandatory nurse-to-patient ratios by going here: http://www.nationalnursesunited.org/page/speakout/national-ratios You can look more into what the proposed RN ratios will b...
  19. Postpartum questions!

They ask a lot of questions about breastfeeding. We have lactation consultants to help with that, too. They also ask, "Is this normal?" a lot! Our patients get booklets about everything they need to know. I'm sure your patients do as well. Just take...
  20. A nurse who doesn't breastfeed

Wow. I had no idea this would be such a popular thread. I didn't read everyone's posts... too many. Haha. But thank you to the positive people here. :)
  21. A nurse who doesn't breastfeed

I'm ignorant because I say that formula is not poison? Okay, I'm not even insulted. This is just funny...
  22. A nurse who doesn't breastfeed

Thanks for sharing your stories. It seems very unrealistic to spend a lot of time pumping at work while you have someone else who has just as much work as you do take care of your patients while you're gone pumping. And you have to pump or your body ...
  23. A nurse who doesn't breastfeed

Thanks for the support. And yeah, one of the reasons I don't want to breastfeed is that I won't have time to pump every 2-3 hours at work. We can't really pinpoint the actual long term benefits of breastfeeding because so much goes into a person's ov...
  24. Epidural / Spinal Block (confused)

I don't work in L&D. I'm new to postpartum and I just want to be able to fully understand. Most vaginal deliveries consist of using epidurals. What is the exact medication that is used for that? Morphine?? Most C-sections consist of Duramorph (mo...

    Thanks people! :)
