  1. Thank you! And I was notified through mail. Good luck!
  2. Congrats!!! I know you will do great!
  3. When I go to my orientation on the 8th I am definitely going to ask and see. I know the website says that students graduate with $0 debt but I still want to be 100% sure.
  4. Do you know if all of tuition and books will be covered? I had saw on an older post that books and uniforms weren't covered and didn't know if that had changed or not.
  5. That's what we had to do too. I'm just hoping financial aid all works out because there is no way I can pay for it out of pocket.
  6. Yes, ours was sent out last Friday. You should be able to call the school and ask when letters will be sent out or at least we could for Hartsville location. In our letter it included that we have a mandatory orientation for November 8th and we have to confirm our spot before then. It also told us we have to pay and have our background check done before December 19th. Did ya'll have do an interview for the TCAT program? Also, did ya'll have to take A&P and math calculations before you could apply? I know some of the locations have started that but mine had not.
  7. Thank you!! I received my letter this past Monday. Our deadline for January was October 6th.
  8. Hey ladies! I was searching AN for TCAT LPN posts and come across yalls post and stalked a little bit. I was accepted into the Harstville location, but have been told all locations are very similar. Congrats to those who have been accepted and good luck to those still waiting. I can't wait for January 3rd!
  9. I applied and was accepted to the Hartsville TCAT for their LPN program that starts January 3rd. I know it's a different location but have been told that they run on similar schedules. When was the deadline for applications to be in? Ours was October 6th and I received my acceptance letter on 10/23.
  10. I took my HESI A2 test last Thursday for an LPN program and wanted to share my experience with those that might be taking it. The LPN program I am applying to is at a technical college. The school only requires us to take the math and reading portion of the HESI A2 and critical thinking but it isn't included in our score. We had 150 minutes to complete the test and you could use that time however you wanted. I used the HESi A2 Practice Tests 2016: 3 HESI Admission Assessment Exam Practice Tests. I bought this book off of Amazon for about $20. It is just a book of exams, but gives you an explanation of why the answer is correct. ***I did find some problems to be incorrect when I went to check the answer key. For example it would say the answer is B 34 but the actual correct answer would be C 34. So just be sure to double check if you think something is off with the problem*** Math- 96% This was the subject I studied most for since I haven't taken a math course in 9 years. My test consisted of ratios, division/multiplication, converting fraction to decimal or decimal to fraction, adding/subtracting, a few word problems (super easy), and two conversion problems. The conversion questions i had were mL to L and cups to pints. I was expecting to have some percentage questions because my study guide had so many of them, but there wasn't one on the test. I am not saying there won't be any on other tests. I completed my math section in an hour. Reading- 88% I can't remember exactly how many different articles I read over but if I was to guess I would say 9-10 with about 5-6 questions for each article. I remember reading on here that someone took the reading and it had nothing to do with nursing like the practice book did and they were absolutely right. The articles I read were very long and very boring unlike those in the practice book. The questions seemed very simple (apparently not with only an 88) and were about what does the author seem to think of this topic or what do certain words mean. I finished the reading in about 45 minutes and regret not taking more time on this section. My total score was 92%. Critical Thinking I know not all schools require this, but just in case yours does I just wanted to give some insight on the type of questions that were asked because I didn't find any posts with it. The question would present you with the patients gender, age, and symptoms. You are then asked what would you do first. Another was what would you do if a patient asked you for your personal phone number. I also had questions that would give you 5 different patients with their symptoms and you have to choose which to see first or list them from most critical to least. It wasn't hard at all. The critical thinking is used at my school for tie breakers from what the instructor told us. Now it's just time to apply for the January program. Good luck and I hope this has helped some.
  11. So glad you posted this because it is hard to find much about the Kaplan test. I did buy the Kaplan review book, but it's not very detailed. Thank you again for this!!
  12. Awesome job! I am so glad you didn't give up and go for the alternatives. This site has a few people who thrive on seeing others fail.:***: Good luck with the rest of your studies.
  13. My school has started this new thing where they include some books for classes in with our tuition. My A&P 1&2 books were included in my tuition both times. I believe the price was just over $80 each. They were also unbounded and was the college edition. Some of my other classes had unbounded books and tons of access codes that had to be purchased. I do remember my Biology book being $200 and the professor said we would absolutely need it...not one time did we use the book!
  14. I was also one who did not like Chemistry. I had a professor who wasn't all that great at explaining things so I memorized everything I needed to know. Talk about a stressful semester!! This was also a big problem once I had to take a&p and biology because I was expected to know my chemistry. Luckily in Biology I had a great professor that helped me to understand what I had memorized to make sense. I am not a nurse yet so I can't say if chemistry will be needed or not, but it will make the other classes easier to understand. My advise would be to ask for help if you need it and if your professor can't help try a tutor or classmate that knows what they are doing. I also used YouTube to try and understand the math part of chemistry. You will do great!!:)
  15. I am not sure if your CC is the same as the one I attended but the way it worked for me is I took all the pre-nursing classes and graduated with my associates then transferred into the 4 year BSN program. My CC had a partnership with the University to make sure all my credits transferred. Once accepted into the program it is 5 consecutive semesters and then you're done. My program is nights/weekends so it may take a little longer than the traditional route.
  16. I took A&P 1 lecture and lab (hybrid-A), sociology (online-A), and life span psych (online-A) while working my regular 40 hour job plus my part time weekend job. I have two children (6 and 3). It certainly was not easy, but it was doable.
  17. I have not taken it yet but plan to next spring some time. The school I will be applying to suggests the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam sixth edition. I know several people who used this for the test and passed with no problems. I bought it off of Amazon for $13. Hope this helps and good luck.
  18. I had to take remedial math for algebra 2 and I did really well until closer to the end of the semester. I was up doing math homework for 3-4 hours every night and on YouTube until I understood the problems. All of the math was done on mymathlab which wasn't all that great for me so YouTube was always my go to. I passed the class with a 96. You can do this.
  19. I have failed a few classes myself. I am a responsible adult, but sometimes life just sucks! The classes that I failed I just took again and passed with A's and that grade replaced my F. What may be different from your situation is that mine happened all at the same school. Like other posters have suggested, call around to schools and see how they would calculate your gpa. You have options so don't give up.
  20. If you look up TN under U.S. there are a few posts about CU's program. I have also heard if you meet their minimum req you will be accepted, but the ones that I knew that went there had near a 4.0 going in. I will be transferring from Vol State into their nights and weekend BSN program. The college is expensive because it is private, but with good grades they give plenty of scholarship money.
  21. Bunnehfeet, I have seen your situation before. When I worked for a walk-in clinic there were two different ladies who came in for one of the MMR shots 4-5 times because their titer would not show immunity. With the patients permission, the doctor called the school to let them know what was going on. The school faxed over a paper that the doctor had to complete saying the patient has recieved the dose several times and still did not show immunity. The school accepted the letter and they were able to start school. Maybe asking your school and doctor if something like this could be done.
  22. Seems like we have similar issues. I have been taking classes part time for a couple of years while working full time and being full time mommy/wife. As I am getting closer to entering the nursing program things seem to be flying out of control. I wasn't able to pay for tuition for the fall because of so many unexpected bills and my husband says it's no big deal. It is a big deal. I am almost 26 and should have this finished already. I want to be finished already! I do have to keep reassuring myself that I will have my degree in a few short years and how much better of a life my babies will have once I'm done. Keep your faith, coldblooded! Always here if you need an ear.
  23. My school required a corequisite math class for chemistry. I felt like it was similar to an intermediate math class and wasn't really needed to pass the chemistry class. Like the other two posts, you will need to do conversions and my book provided all I needed to know. The math was very basic.
  24. I usually look the professors up on RMP before I pick out classes. I have also been in your shoes where that was the only teacher and their ratings were horrible. At least for my school the ratings are close to accurate and I just worked my butt off and used YouTube when I couldn't figure things out. Chemistry was the hardest one for me because the professor was so awful, but I ended up with a B. If I were in your shoes I would take the class and accept it as a challeng like Ace29jd said.
  25. I had a hard time chosing between ADN and BSN when I started school. My advisor told me that most hospitals in TN are moving away from hiring those with an ADN. I chose to go with BSN because I currently have a really nice job and can do a nights and weekend program while I continue to work. Larger hospitals, such as Vanderbilt, have required nurses with an ADN to complete their BSN in two years like Miss Infermiera said. Vanderbilt did pay for their nurses to go back to school. Research your area and see what the requirments are.
