  1. Organic food makes you immortal, I guess :) In all seriousness, if you have evidence/research that organic consumers live longer or don't get sick or ill as often as the rest of us I'd love to see it. I'm open to changing my mind.
  2. Holy long-windedness, Batman. So.many logical fallacies, so little time.
  3. Then I guess we'll have to stay away from passion fruit. It's a shame cause I like passion fruit. It is commonly processed into juice for consumption. According to Chan et al. (1972) , this fruit is highly acidic and it contains good source of niacin, riboflavin , vitamin C and vitamin A. It contains 14.41 to 21.9% of refractometeric solids, 21.9 to 69.9 mg/ (100 g samples) of ascorbic acid and 1073-1547 as i.u. of vitamin A/ (100g of samples) of carotene (Pruthi and Lal, 1959 ). 3,7-dimethylocta-1,5-diene-3, 7- diol, 3,7-dimethylocta-1,7-diene-3.6-doil, "
  4. You dare question that bastion of scientific knowledge and moral integrity known as Putin?
  5. You know what's both ironic and a little hilarious at the same time? Not only do "organic" farmers use pesticides, just like evil GMO farmers do...but they actually have to use them in greater quantities because "natural" pesticides are not as effective. I guess most people on this thread won't find that funny, but I do :)
  6. Your decision of having or not having a baby does not potentially risk the health of vulnerable patients. I don't get the analogy.
  7. "Your anger is better aimed in the proper direction. Email you representative to close our borders...rather than be insulting to few of us who prefer a natural lifestyle. Take care." Lol, yes don't criticize me for my anti-scientific beliefs, ...blame the dirty immigrants instead! Thanks, Nurse Trump
  8. This thread was a trip. And Dinah77 is my hero,
  9. Anyone know of any openings? I'm here now on a travel contract but still very interested in per diem gigs.

Thanks, Paco. Phoenix and Denver are 2 places I'm curious about, and I've been to neither so it would be great.
  11. Jesus. That may be the single most negative post I've read on AllNurses, and I've been a member for like 10 years. A newbie reading something like that would be terrified of traveling. I hope they know that some of us have had much more positive experiences than that. In 5 years of traveling I've been to maybe two crappy places, did my time, survived and got out to better places. It is not that bad.

Looking for ideas, fellow travelers. My current contract ends in April, after a year of working at a NJ hospital, and 5 years of 'traveling' in NY/NJ (I met my wife in the area so I didn't get to travel elsewhere like I originally intended to.) I'm going through a divorce so the time could not be more right to start actually traveling again. The only thing I know for sure is I'm heading West starting from FL (towards California) then North all the way to Seattle. What stops would you suggest along the way to work at, which ones to sight-see and move on? The only sure working stops I have so far are San Diego, L.A., SF, Portland, and Seattle, with maybe Austin added to the list ...but what about before I reach California? Again, I'll be driving from FL. I'm Medsurg/Tele, btw, and I tend to like bigger cities.
  13. I've been working contracts here in NJ for about a year and you can add terrible staffing ratios to that, at least in Medsurg. I thought I might have been unlucky with the 2 hospitals I have been to (Overlook and Chilton, both ran by Atlantic Network) but locals tell me that nope, nursing just sucks all over this state. Can't wait to leave. If you're wondering why I've stayed so long is because I met my wife in NY and we both moved here in search of cheaper housing. But I'm just not a fan of Jersey.
  14. I'm from Miami and worked there for 3 years before I started traveling, and can tell you that what Ned said is right on the money. There are better places to travel to, but I understand that you have your heart set on Florida (same as I did with NYC.) Try to get a little more experience because you never know what you may encounter as a traveler, and you want to be able to deal with it.
  15. All you guys on this thread are hard core. Hats off to you all.

I have been traveling for almost 5 years (total of 8 of experience) and all 5 have been in the NY-NJ area. Met my wife in NY and that's why I never ended up leaving and touring the country like I had originally planned. Don't make that same mistake lol In all seriousness, you sound like you're more than well prepared for traveling. NY is a blast. You'll most likely like it there. I worked at Beth Israel, Presbyterian, and Saint Luke's, the latter one was my favorite, I stuck around almost 2 years there.
  17. Evidence please? I like your tin foil hat. You do know how insane you sound, yes? No, I guess you don't.
  18. A full moon has absolutely zero effect on whether a shift will be good or not. It's nothing but a superstition.
  19. Whether they are more or less popular I don't know, but I do know that the truth of a claim is not affected in any way by how many people believe it. I would have to disagree. It's about what the evidence suggests works, not about what people want to believe or not.
  20. If there is money to be made from a possible cancer cure investors would be lining up from here to the moon. Really? What type of cancer, all of them? Because they're not all the same, you know? Different cancer types would require different treatments and cures. And how is it that such an Earth-shattering treatment hasn't become world famous or hasn't been front-page news on every single newspaper in the world? Let me take a wild guess... Big Pharma? How do you know these magical mushrooms work? Have they been studied/tested? Have those studies been replicated? Sorry but we'll need more evidence than just anecdotal data; especially after your mushroom statement.
  21. Wow. That is a whole lot of crap in just 5 lines. Yes, alternative "medicine" is old, so what? Something being old does not make it true or effective. Look up the argument from antiquity. The main reason we live longer than ever before in human history is because science and science-based medicine have made it possible for most of us to make it out of childhood alive, and well into our 70s and 80s. And I suspect that, yes, many people die while being treated by modern medicine because many, many people have the common sense to seek out modern medicine over quackery. Why? Because it usually works. Does it cure everything? Of course not, and it has never claimed to do so. But it has a track record that trumps any form of quackery out there.
  22. Try 1-8 with occasionally no PCT/Aide here in NJ, and when we do have one it is one for the entire floor (about 30 patients). And of those 8, I frequently have 4 or 5 total cares (I wish I were exaggerating), so even when we do have that one aide, they are usually busy so we end up doing our own care anyway. I haven't even mentioned how frequently we get restrained patients: Very frequently. Moving here was the biggest mistake of my life. I'd take 1-4, and living in the Bay Area in a heartbeat.
  23. I'm not a math genius but I'm pretty sure 54% > 0%. Also as healthcare providers we have the moral obligation to do everything possible to protect those we provide care for, not to mention our own families.
  24. Cool. Thanks again, guys.
  25. Very true. Though looking at the salary survey thread it seems to show that things are changing and jobs may be opening again. At least I hope so.
