San Francisco Per Diem

Hi, guys; I'm planning to relocate to SF (from Jersey), but I need to convince the wife that the move makes financial sense.

So, I just wanted to know what I could expect to get paid per hour as an in-house/per diem/7 years of experience RN in the Bay Area.

Btw, don't have a BSN yet but I'll have it by January of next year. Thank you!

Forgot to mention that my areas are Medsurg/Tele and strongly prefer nights.

There's a page under general nursing which people post their area and wages. I'd wager 60 to 80 per diem nights in sf bay area. Look at the UCSF pay scale website, its all public information you can look up and compare to.

Gotcha, I had no idea about that page in general nursing. Thank you so much!

Be aware of the difference in cost of living. Gas is at least $4/gallon in the city, parking is upwards of $30/day, and housing is astronomical (check out Craigslist). Where in the Bay Area are you looking to live?

At least at UCSF you'd be making around 80/h + 10% (nights) and 5% weekends.

Not all hospitals in the Bay Area pay this much, if you go further out (toward Pleasanton for instance) you'll make less.

Hi, guys. Thanks for responding! RunBaby I lived in Manhattan for about 3 years so the sticker shock won't be as severe as someone coming from the South for example. Gas is about the same and I'm not planning to buy, only rent. I figured I can get a decent-ish $2400 1-bed somewhere in SF for my wife and I (also, we'll have 2 salaries which helps) but that depends where we end up working, I'm open to Oakland, and the rest of the area. Does that plan sound realistic? (All that said, $30/day for parking? That's nuts lol)

Gunrock if I can get anywhere in the $70s/hr I'd be pretty happy; hope I get an offer :)

I have a buddy living in mission district and pays 5 to 600 for a single car parking space alone. Rent does not ensure parking and vary between 2500 to 3 for a single in the city, so expect to pay more on the higher end as little things add up quickly.

Cool. Thanks again, guys.

Anyone know of any openings? I'm here now on a travel contract but still very interested in per diem gigs.
