Duke MSN 2018
Okay friends I took one for the team and called! She asked my name and program that I applied to. I told her I'm PNP - Primary Care. She told me those decisions will go out the first of next week. I'm not sure if she means all MSN decisions or just PNP, but at least maybe we are close??

I applied to UNC-Chapel Hill and I'm still waiting to hear from them, too. Duke's program is overall better for my lifestyle. It's part-time and I work night shift. I'm so thankful I have people to wait with! I am wishing the best for all of you!! :)

Just looked at their academic calendar and their spring break starts Friday the 9th. Maybe they'll send something out before then. Wishful thinking í ½í¸œ

I don't know exactly when but I've heard them say "a few weeks after your interview" and I've also heard "mid-March." I just know that we have to know before the 30th because that's the "Experience DUSON" day! I hope it's sooner rather than later. It's my number one choice too!

Thank you Carly for reminding me about FELS!!

Financial aid applications are due 3/1 so any date after that is fair game for admission decisions. So hopefully just another week or two til we all know! Did anyone else apply for any scholarships? Either through Duke or otherwise? I applied for the merit scholarship but I'm trying not to get too excited since they only give out 7!

Those situational questions do make it hard to brag on your accomplishments but I'm sure as long as you were able to answer them that's what they were looking for! I felt the same way about mine! I'm sure you did great :) it's hard waiting til March now that the interview is over!

I feel like it did! I was able to answer all the questions fully and overall it went well I think! :)

Feel Like I'm Drowning
I'm so sorry that happened to you! I'm sure you're a fabulous nurse. I've heard that it takes a year to feel pretty confident in yourself so we just need to hang in there. Oh, and I definitely couldn't have done it thus far without lots of prayer :) Thank you for your input! It's good to know I'm not the only one!

Feel Like I'm Drowning
Hi everyone, I'm a NICU new grad and I've been off of orientation for a little while now. My last few weeks of orientation I was doing everything by myself, while my preceptor was there as a resource. I thought I would feel confident on my own since I had practically been on my own for a few weeks. But now that I'm on my own I feel like I'm drowning. I overthink all of my little mistakes. I feel bad asking the nurses in my pod so many questions (although, let me just add that that doesn't stop me from asking -- I'd never jeopardize my patient's safety for the sake of being embarrassed of asking questions). I just always wonder if the other nurses think I ask too many questions, or that I don't ask enough questions; I worry if my patients are comfortable, I wonder if I give good reports to the oncoming shift, I worry when I leave that I forgot to do things. Is this normal? And how long did it take you all to feel like you had a handle on things? I know it's not immediate, and I know that I learn from all of my mistakes. I just want to know I'm not alone!

CRNA school from NICU?
Hi everyone, I am currently a BSN-RN in a level IV NICU. I am interested in CRNA school and the programs I am looking at require ICU experience. I know that NICU has ICU in the name but I was wondering if it counts because it is not adult care. I just started my NICU job as a new grad, so I have several years before I want to go back to school, I just wanted to make sure that my specialty is relevant to my future goals.

Best Pre NICU experience
I did my nursing school capstone in mother-baby, and when I accepted my first NICU position I couldn't possibly see how mother-baby could help me much with NICU because mother-baby never sees sick kids. However, I was so thankful from day one in the NICU for my experience on MB because it taught me so much about assessing babies! I got a good picture of what a healthy heart sounds like, what healthy lungs sound like, what normal color is, how to assess fontanelles and sutures, etc. Once you get a good idea of what's "normal" it's easier to determine what is abnormal. Since your facility has a nursery, I think that would provide an awesome pre-NICU experience for the reasons just mentioned.

How old is too old?
In our NICU, they move to PICU at one year.

Tips for a New Grad in NICU?
Hi everyone! I just recently graduated from my BSN program in May, and I take the NCLEX in about 2 weeks. I just found out last week that I have received a position in a Level IV NICU! I am very excited to start. I was wondering if any NICU nurses have some advice for me as a new grad in a challenging unit? Thank you!

8 hr Night Shifts
Hi Everyone! I just received a job offer on my dream unit straight out of school! The unit is awesome, it's at an outstanding, nationally recognized facility, a teaching hospital with a great orientation program, and the nurses were SO sweet to me. Only one problem... the position they want to hire me for is 8 hour night shifts. As in working 5 nights/week. I'm honestly looking on here for some uplifting support because all I have read are the cons of shifts like this. Any positive notes on working 8 hour nights? I have a fiance, no kids, no pets. Maybe that's a plus...? (I'm trying to be positive...)

UNC Nurse grad residency 2015
I have a friend who called because she still had not received an e-mail pertaining to whether or not they received all of her application materials. While she had them on the phone she asked when they will begin calling for interviews, and whoever she talked to was pretty vague about it. He told her that they have been very behind because of the weather, and that when the next steps begin to take place we should get an e-mail. That's all he would tell her!

I haven't heard either! I was just looking at a forum from Spring 2014 and it looks like people began hearing from UNC around mid-to-late March! :)
