  1. How is your staffing ratio

So last weekend I had 14 patients to just myself and 2 techs. I hear this weekend will be the same. There are 15 for tomorrow. Now I have been a nurse a long time but this seems a bit much. Some of the patients are medical too as well as being psych....
  2. Managers that don't like you.....ever been there?

I had one NM that we just could not work together. I knew her before she became our floors manager and we hated each other way back. So when she became the boss I put in my notice. Best move I could have made. ( our kids went to kindergarten together...
  3. What is the general view of a home health nurse

Did home health for a long time. Loved it. I think you get more respect since you are alone out there with only your wits and creativity to utilize. I always felt well respected. But the most important thing is that you enjoy it.
  4. Why did you become a Psych Nurse?

I was needing a change and had no idea what I wanted to try. So I thought back to my clinicals and I had loved my psych rotation. A friend of mine who did prn at the hospital said she did prn at a psych facility and that it was a good place to work. ...
  5. Missed Call from Recruiter, Didn't Leave A Message

I would just call asap and say you saw the number on caller ID.
  6. Does this seem like a good idea for me?

That is why we love our pharmacists and calculators. I got a tutor in school even though I am not bad with numbers. But for some reason I was bad with drip calculations. I know that makes no sense to me either but we all have our strengths & weak...
  7. How is your staffing ratio

In deed good team members can make all the difference. I have 2 wonderful techs that totally rock.
  8. Gotta love the frequent flyers..

I just admitted one of my favorite frequent fliers today. I enjoyed every minute of the admit.
  9. Question

So I graduated from a " non-traditional " college about 11 years ago with my ADN. Was a LPN for 4 years before that back when a LPN could work as a nurse on a med-surg unit. Now I have to move to another state and they refuse to grant me a license sa...
  10. RN to MD

I have worked with a couple. I am way to old to go back to school but if I were 15 years younger...................................
  11. You know you've been a nurse too long when...

OMG, I have done all that, have a box of gloves and a face/mouth guard in case I need to do CPR somewhere. LOL
  12. Has this ever happened to you??

Glad my employer does have the house supervisor replace us or offer to buy us dinner ( on them ) if we do get stuck working a double. We also get extra 3.00 an hour in that situation. But it still stinks if you have to go to class or my next job.
  13. I worked with a new grad in the ER. She had been a LPN in LTC for 4-5 years and got her RN. She had no problems getting the hospital position.
  14. Heck, I would do part time LTC and part time something else while getting my BSN and then try back into med-surg/hospital nursing. I wish you the best though.
  15. Old nurse, New BSN, MED ERROR

At somepoint we have all made a mistake. It speaks highly of you that you took ownership of it. Let it go now. I like what ONCRN63 said. Print it out, then shred & burn it.
  16. Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?

Georgia will endorse if more than 1800 hours nursing experience. I just got my license from them. Just be warned they are incredibly slow in processing everything and letters of reference helps. Get letters from your director of nursing specifically ...
  17. new nurse anxiety

Completely normal. I am one of those who de-stresses via running. But I am also that crazy driver going home that just has to verbalize out loud what a cruddy shift or whatever is bothering me. Once I say it out loud I am ok. Aromatherapy or chocolat...
  18. Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?

Well, here it goes. LPN working med-surg for 4 years, did RT for 2 years before that and then got my ADN from EC. Spent 2 years working ICU then, 6 years might be 7 now of behavioral health. During those same 6-7 years I have done per diem home heal...
  19. Any Excelsior grads have a hard time finding employment?

No issues with attending EC but had one heck of a fight with GBON to get my license. I did after a while get an apology from them and my license only to find out we are not moving there after all. Point is, you can fight those states that say they do...
  20. latex allergy holding me back

That was my question too. I am somewhat allergic to latex ( rash only ) and have been a nurse a long long time. I'd go to another facility.
  21. It's Tough Out There!

Yeah, here too. Almost 16 yrs experience, great references, etc and got only 3 call backs after waiting forever. Market for nurses is really stuff right now. Best wishes in your job search.
  22. You know you've been a nurse too long when...

You've been a nurse too long when you catch yourself saying to a new grad, " I remember back when we wore all white and ironed our caps."
  23. Back in the day......

OMG, we still use hibiclenz from time to time. I still wear my nursing whites but leave the cap off. I recall the glass containers on the floor for chest tubes drainage. You had your drainage bottle, the water seal bottle and the suction control bot...
  24. Failed a Nurse Battery Exam

I agree with HouTx but would add, then you get the nurse who overthinks the answers and screws up the test that way.LOL I know I am guilty of that when it comes to tests. I have taken one in the past and think they really need to be done away with fo...
  25. Random question: Would you wear a $300 watch to work

Cheap watches only for work. No jewlery either. Off duty, different story. But you never know what can happen whilst working your shift.
