  1. Want to leave Bedside. What are my options?

I got into my hospital's quality department doing chart abstraction and eventually started working from home. Love it! Find out who your PI/quality manager is and put out feelers!
  2. AHRQ Need help understanding

New to quality. Im having a hard time understanding all the different quality measures and how things get reporting to the governing bodies. For instance...AHRQ IQI 11 - Aneurysm deaths. It states this is reported via claims. I assume this means they...
  3. Nasty email from CNS

As a new CM abstractor I can tell you we have to report that to all kinds of people lol. Is it possible the MD charted earlier in the stay why no ace/arb? It doesn't HAVE to be written at discharge if it's written anywhere in the chart. He can also u...
  4. Covenant, UT Med Center or East Tenn Children's?

I would go with Children's..I've heard good things. I believe UT now does all their peds through Childrens if I recall correctly. Perhaps you could contact a nurse recruiter for more of the details re pay and benefits.
  5. What kind of Nurse does administrative work?

Oh and to answer your actual question: My job will be in performance improvement (doing data management for instance core measures compliance, but that is just part of it) Other things: informatics (does your hospital have a computer charting committ...
  6. What kind of Nurse does administrative work?

Totally agree with HouTX. NETWORK! Join committees, get to know people in other departments. Perhaps a procedural area would be a good next step for you? Not office, but something different anyway. I just landed my first job away from bedside. I will...
  7. Emetophobia!!!!!

As far as specialization, depends on the hiring practices of your local hospitals. When I graduated, everyone pretty much was on a level playing field. When you got hired after passing NCLEX, you could go into ER, ICU, OR, Med-Surg, Tele, etc and you...
  8. Please tell me about your role as nurse auditor

Do you know exactly what you'd be auditing in the charts? I just got a position away from bedside and will start in a couple weeks. My position will be pulling data from charts for core measures and various database registries. I was really worried i...
  9. Is there a slower paced floor to work at in the hospital?

I think some of it depends on the hospital and how they staff various units. I float and there are some floors that tend to be better staffed and have a 5:1 ratio instead of 6:1 and they are a little easier. Stepdown can be easier depending on how it...
  10. Vent!!! So frustrated.

I would try to focus on your patients. I think it would look bad to go to your 3rd job in less than one year. It doesn't sound likes it's an unsafe working environment, just not your "fit". Keep doing your best and set the example in professionalism....
  11. Does this sound possible?

I don't know anything about school nursing, but you will have to spend a lot of time in the hospital setting for your clinical time in nursing school.
  12. Those back surgery patients usually have a ton of pain! I've only ever seen one that wasn't in bad pain. She was the exception! Often you will have to help them turn because they won't do it independantly, so you have potential for impaired skin inte...
  13. HELP!! this might as well had been a MED ERROR!!!

I would just leave it as is for the ones already sent out. Chances are they may not even notice it. If you send corrections you are bringing it to their attention.
  14. Moving to an exempt position

So I'm in the interview process for a position away from bedside. The new position will be exempt ie salaried. I'm trying to figure out what salary I am looking for if I am offered the position. I know exempt persons may have to work extra hours for ...
  15. Moving to an exempt position

Thanks llg. I was offered the position today. I'm still a little nervous about the whole exempt thing and them running me into the ground lol..but since I already work at the facility I know it's a good place and I think they will do right by me. The...
  16. How to know if job interview went well

After a total of 4 weeks of interviewing..I got the job offer this morning. Have to discuss with hubby but I can't see why I wouldn't accept! I hope you hear back soon..keep us posted!
  17. How to know if job interview went well

I'm very anxiously waiting on interview results too! Within my own facility moving away from bedside. I had the first round, waited two weeks, then told I was selected in the top 3 candidates (and they are hiring TWO positions so that's pretty good o...
  18. RN with fitness backgrounds???

Try corporate wellness. I know of one area corporation that has a huge wellness focus. They have a great gym facility and offer classes to their staff during the day and such. They have a nurse on staff that leads many of the classes and is available...
  19. new grad opportunities in east TN

As a new grad you definitely will not be making anywhere near 65k. After one year you could take a float position and with some night and weekend diffs it's a possibility.
  20. FACIAL HAIR during the job search

I work with many bearded nurses. I would trim it nice and neat. As far as Fit testing, at my facility if you can't get fit tested (one reason is facial hair, my personal reason is I have asthma and I feel suffocated by those masks) we get the backpac...
  21. Night Shifters!

We get weekend diff from 7p Fri to 7a Sunday morning. No weekend diff for Sunday nights, only regular night diff. My old hospital though paid weekend diff for Sunday nights..hopefully yours does too!
  22. Consideration for performance improvement position

My first interview round went relatively well. I just got called to do a second interview later this week with a CT surgeon and the VP. I wish I could think of better ways to prepare myself. This is such a new area for me!
  23. Hi all.. Our hospital is hiring for a performance improvement position specific to our service area. This position is responsible for various benchmark registries such as for thoracic surgery and vascular surgery. I have been a bedside nurse for 4 ye...
  24. Need info on Sevierville area.....

I have also heard Dandridge is nice! Sevierville can get a little busy with tourist traffic. Blount County has grown a TON. There are many restaurants, a mall, two Walmart Super centers, Lowes and Home Depot, etc.
  25. Need info on Sevierville area.....

Most of these surrounding rural areas are really safe areas. Blount County (maryville) and Seymour are both nice areas. Both have subdivision type living as well as many rural areas.
