  1. Pre-employment credit checks in Nashville area hospitals?

I doubt it would matter for a nursing position. However - as someone who has worked on their bad credit quite a bit... if you were an AUTHORIZED USER only you were not liable for balance and you can get that deleted from your credit report. You need ...
  2. Info on Johnson City Medical Center Please

Back before I became a nurse, I had a GI bleed (I think ecoli poisoning) the ER gave me IVF and sent me home (well I was visiting from out of town, so to the hotel) Thankfully it stopped on it's own in about 48 hours. I don't know if it's because I d...
  3. NewGrad Hours/Shift Questions

Hmm most hospitals I know have 12 hr shifts. 7-3 type jobs are more like procedural areas where you usually need experience first. I would think someplace like the ER might be more flexible since they often have overlapping schedules and you aren't ...
  4. UT University of Tennesee Hospital/know anything?

The pay is low and is not getting any better. I'm personally very frustrated with the pay issues right now. We keep getting more asked of us and less given to us. I would probably consider moving to a higher pay area but my husband wants to stay in E...
  5. Looking for ideas on how to set up TB skin testing to encourage better compliance? Do you have a 5 day a week open door clinic in the hospital? Offer it on each floor? Train floor staff to administer? Looking for ways to make this more managable at o...
  6. UT pay and work environment??

8? What floor is THAT? Typical is 4-6 on days depending on the floor. 5-6 on nights. On RARE and VERY RARE occasions you might get a 7th on nights. Insurance is very reasonably priced. 401k gives 5% of your pay with no employee contribution required...
  7. NURSING LIABILITY

I would want HER to write the TO on an order sheet and give to me. She took them, she should have ALREADY written them anyway right? To READ BACK you have to WRITE THEM. The standard of practice is to write them down and read them back.
  8. St Francis Memphis - Nurse tech?

anyone know anything about St francis in memphis?? I notice they have ads for "nurse techs" and it's geared towards RN students within one yr of graduating. ANY idea what they pay??
  9. Flu shot tips

I usually work nights and we don't do a lot of immunizations. I am doing some extra work though this year doing flu shots. A couple quick questions: 1) does it matter which arm? Is it better to do non-dominant since it may hurt a little afterwards? 2...
  10. TB Testing - How to make convenient for staff?

So Chey - do you have a full time employee health office that the employees go to when they are due? Like a walk in clinic type thing?
  11. Tn RN wages

With 5 yrs should be around $22 base. More if you float.
  12. Rate of Pay for NEW GRAD in Knoxville

Yes...they are stacked..so $7/hr for night weekend (fri/sat nights only)
  13. Charting method at UT Med Center ED

The rest of the hospital is computer. I dont work ED..but from what I've seen it's mostly paper. Not too sure with the traumas themselves in the ED. I would think things move too fast in the ED to be computer charting..no?
  14. Charting method at UT Med Center ED

Still mostly paper, some minimal computer charting, ie triage.
  15. Rate of Pay for NEW GRAD in Knoxville

$4 nights; $3 weekends (Fri/Sat nights only, or Sat/Sun days); good place to work, mostly well staffed, supportive; excellent benefits inc 5% into retirement with no employee contribution required.
  16. I would like feedback from other nurses on a topic I am working on for our hospital. We are finding a breakdown when a patient is receiving crushed meds by mouth ie in applesauce. This is only rarely an issue with feeding tubes as the med is normally...
  17. Communication between nursing/pharmacy Crushing Meds

We do have MD orders to crush meds, this is done after speech sees the patient. But the breakdown is 1) pharmacy isn't integrating this into our eMar 2) nurses know to crush meds, but don't seem to recognize it's not appropriate to crush any and all ...
  18. Hi all! I'm a nurse of 3 years in TN. We are thinking of relocating to the Charleston/Summerville area soon. I currently work at a University hospital and really like the availability of docs so again am thinking of going the University hospital rout...
  19. A day in the life of an RN...

I think it probably varies pretty widely by area and hospital. I moved from West TN to East TN and from a weekender to a float nurse and took a pretty huge pay cut..but overall am in a much better hospital with a much better working environment. chat...
  20. Clean vs Sterile Technique

I was reading another thread about protecting your license and there was mention of a nurse not using clean technique to change a dressing (which leads me to wonder what technique DID she use?) Anyway, when we chart there is a place to check clean or...
  21. TN New grad pay

Just curious - who we have graduating and what the new grad pay is in your area of TN. The highest in my area is in Memphis. I hear Baptist is 19.50 + 2/hr bedside for a total base of 21.50. Is this the highest in TN? Most hospital are paying rough...
  22. Saint Francis (Memphis)

I moved and don't work there anymore, but when I did up until this past summer yes they had self scheduling. Like all the hospitals in Memphis they stay pretty short handed so they fill in with a lot of agency. Therefore staff can usually work pretty...
  23. Declotting PICCs

I am a new nurse and I recently spent some time with the PICC team. They were called to declot a PICC. I was glad to see this because I work nights/weekends when the PICC team isn't readily available. The PICC nurse said it was quite appropriate for ...
  24. ATC - Insurance?

I am checking into ATC and they are sending me some info in the mail. Does anyone know how their health insurance is and how long you must work there before it kicks in? I'm very interested in going full time agency IF I can find some decent family h...
  25. Weekend Shifts

Where I work weekends start at 7p on Friday and go to 7a on Monday. So if you worked days it would only be sat-sun, nights would be fri-sat-sun. I currently work weekends and make over $40 hr. I'm looking at moving to Knoxville and so far taking almo...
