    Charting for behaviors

The language might not look pretty on paper, but if that is what is going to save my butt in court than that is what I am documenting. I would much rather have an accurate description in court...

    question about insulin, heparin injections

You only have one nurse per unit?! Glad I don't work there. It depends. A lot of nurses I work with do not check their doses with others. Is it a policy at my hospital? No, it's not. I very...

    Charting for behaviors

Let's see here...you charted that there was vulgar language used towards staff, and there was. So what's wrong with that picture? Nothing as far as I can see. When people use vulgar language...

Bizarre, Odd or just plain Gross Patient Habits.

Oh yummy. When I worked in a LTC, a lot of little old ladies would use about 2 squares of toliet paper. They would blow their noses with this TP, have it drenched in snot, and then proceed to wipe...

    Family Witnessing Code Activities

I believe, yes, they should be allowed. They should be able to see for themselves that everything possible was done. Are the results always good? Well obviously no. And for the family that doesn't...

  8. Where I work, we also have computerized MARS. When a patient normally takes a med at a certain time, then we give it then. We try to keep their schedule as routine as possible since everything else...
  9. The only shoes I put on my feet for work are New Balance. My feet thank me every 12 hour shift that runs in to 13...and then 14 hours! :balloons: :balloons:
  10. STNA is state tested, CNA isa certified. Here in Ohio, you have to be state-tested to work in LTC. I am not sure of interchanging them, never came across that before.

    Omg, Help With Math Please

i guess the main thing is getting these equations down. my answers aren't guaranteed right, but you definitely need to figure out how to do them. i am assuming they will teach you this in school and...

    RN who wouldn't be CNA

all that i have to say is that i wouldn't want to be a cna working under your cousin. apparently your cousin isn't around to help when things get down and dirty in nursing, which is most of the time....

    quantitative stethoscope comparisons?

Where I work, it's not the nurses you have to worry about. Doctors walk off with stethoscopes all of the time.

nights vs. day shift for new grad

I think it varies. I believe night shift makes a person more self-sufficient due to less staff. Day shift there is more resource people available, if they have the time to help you.

    Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo Woes

AGH! My doctor wanted me to make an appointment to come in and see him. The bad thing is that he is going out of town for 1 1/2 weeks, so I can't get in until September 1. Darn it! Hopefully I can...

We recently switched to IVP instead of piggy back. I can't recall running into that problem yet. I'll be sure to keep my eyes open!

Worried that experienced nurse may know nothing

You have only been a nurse for 3 months and you are orientating?!?! Nothing against you or your skills, but I would think that you would still be on orientation, not the one orientating someone...

What shifts do you work? Do you like it?

I work 3 12's, night shift. I like it. No docs, families, or administration to bug me. I don't really have trouble sleeping during the day, it's getting up early morning that kills! The sucky...

My prayers are with you. Nope, you are not the only one to ever do that. At the hospital where I work, most of the needles we use are retractable. I have stuck myself with an 18 g, right through...
