  1. My poor coworker:(

That is awful! Poor girl! I was bitten by a yappy little bastard right on my butt. It barely broke the skin. Definitely a job hazard. I feel so bad for her and I pray for a speedy recovery.
  2. New grad in HH $20/visit no mileage.... is this right?

Whoa there! Definitely harsh. The expired tube thing could happen to anyone, even a very experienced RN. It's not as though she will be working in a vacuum. Help is but a phone call away.
  3. I got my first job!!! But I am worried...

Hey, I understand that! We do what we have to do, right. You'll be just fine.
  4. Working for 2 agencies at the same time

I worked full time for one agency and prn for another. I saw 5-10 patients for the prn gig. I didn't tell anyone so as not to **** them off. Just be careful not to mix up the paperwork. That would be a dead giveaway. Lol!
  5. I got my first job!!! But I am worried...

Firstly, I'm not sure that home health nursing should be your first job out of school. Not much experience to work from but not to worry. It's not as though you'll be working in a vacuum. Help is a phone call away. Never forget that. Secondly, that ...
  6. Why Do People Bully Me?

This is horrible! I am so sorry you were treated this way. I hope that you can get past this and back into nursing! If you made it through nursing school then you CAN do this. WOW!, I can honestly say that I'm embarrassed on this rotten nurses behalf...
  7. Elevated INR without warfarin

Was this pt septic? Severe sepsis will cause elevated INR also.
  8. Advice on how to be more assertive

I worked in Florida State Prison for more than 3 years. That is the prison where 'Old Sparky' was used and where executions are currently held. It is maximum security. Those inmates are the worst of the worst. Many have severe psych issues as well. M...
  9. Why Do People Bully Me?

I was also bullied as a new nurse working my first job in the ICU. I was actually still in my preceptor-ship. The charge nurse, with 100+ years of experience (lol), was the perp. I'm not sure why she tested me. I find it hard to believe it was just b...
  10. Witnessed unsterile procedure and feeling terrible about it

The moral of this story is make sure you have ALL the facts before you go on a crusade. I love the plan to get with training/p&p to find out the proper technique then moving forward.
  11. 12 hour shift

I think 12s. 8s are too short, 12s are perfect, and 16s are too long. Once upon a time, when I thought I was wonder woman, I worked 80 hours in 6 days. 16 8 16 16 8 16. Then I had 8 days off. I lived an hour from work too. I was very persnickety by ...
  12. Tales of Woe; or, Nursing Job Search Fiascoes.

I interviewed and was hired on the spot for an ER position. I was so excited! I left there walking 5 feet off the ground! I got a call the next day saying that the hiring manager, the one who hired me, no longer worked there. Even though they offered...
  13. Embarrassing/Clumsy Moments!

"Then add into the equasion the fact that I wear those funny little rubber shoes and have been a recepient of the dredded "Croc Stop" on many occaions. You know, you are happily walking down a hall minding your own business....walk,walk, walk...STOP,...
  14. Home Care: Meds and flushes via g-tube

If you want to be clear with the volume of water given I would write it something like this.. Meds given via g-tube mixed with 120cc of water. The word alternating implies that you gave the patient 120cc of water more than once.
  15. Night Shift Question/Advice/Tips

I have been a night shifter for more than 1/2 of my nursing career (4+ years so far). #1-When you go to bed, unplug/turn off your phones! I don't care what happens, it will be handled without me. You will need to do this because people just don't und...
  16. Nursing Theory in Nursing Practice

I can safely say that all nurses practice nursing theory as they provide nursing care. The proven theories of safe needle handling to decrease sticks, hand washing to decrease the spread of infection, 5 rights of med admin so we don't dope the wrong ...
  17. Will I have any trouble with this Rx?

I agree with the previous posts and would like to add the following... If you take prescriptions like narcs, benzos, even though they are prescribed, and you make serious mistake, you will be held at fault because they will say you were impaired. Jus...
  18. Clinical Nursing Student Needs Advice 5 patients

Wow! That is unheard of where I'm from! A seasoned nurse should be assigned those patients, you should be doing the work with him/her right beside you! Access to the meds/supplies should be handled with the nurse assigned to those patients with you r...
  19. nurses don't know when they're orientating

Yikes. That would be awkward. I did a 3 month orientation/preceptorship in ICU with the same nurse the whole time. We were on the same schedule. I just thought it was the same for everyone. Perhaps it should be? You could try speaking with the manage...
