    Clocking in

Where I work, you can clock in 5 min before shift, and you have the 5 min after your sched shift to clock out. If you clock out before or after that five min, then it is a clocking violation. i.e. for 7-3 you can clock in at 6:55-6:59, 7 us considered late, clock out at 3:01-3:05.

"What do you need Christmas off for? You don't have kids!" (rant)

Regardless if you have to work or if you will be home with your family, whether it includes children or not...........................I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!!!!

    DNR orders

At my facility, the DNR's to not expire. In fact, if a res signs their own LTP for I.V. fluids, tubes or whatever, then it can not be changed, even if another family member has POA. If the POA is who initially signed, then they can change it, or if the res isn't incompetent by the care plan, than they can change it.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. Yes, I meant incompetent cervix. Sorrry, I was going on no sleep when I typed that. I will look into some of those books for her

    Miscarriages

O.K. guys, I need some advice. A friend of mine just delivered a 20 week baby, he did not survive. She has had a previous miscarriage, and difficulty with this one as well. She had an incomplete cervix this time. Does anyone know of any good websites or books, anything to help her through this time? Thanks

    TEAS Test?

I took my test yesterday, and I passed. I did not buy the book to study and I didn't study for it at all. I wasn't sure what it would be like and didn't know what to study. I had a lot of ratio's and changing percentages on my math. Also had some what would 38% of 530 be? I didn't think it was all that hard. Just relieved to have it over with. Good Luck to everyone who has yet to take it or who is waiting on their results.

    TEAS Test?

I'm not sure how it is scored, but I take mine tomorrow. The lady I spoke to told me that we get our results as soon as we take it. Has anyone else done this? I haven't studied for the test. Hopefully I will do allright. I know my school uses this and our letter grades for acceptance into the program.

"What do you need Christmas off for? You don't have kids!" (rant)

If you have read the whole board, Marie did tell this other nurse. This board is for us to ask question, learn from one another and vent if that is what we need to do. Nursing is such a stressful profession and it is nice to have someplace to vent where someone else will understand what we are talking about. That's one thing that I love about this bb. I think it would be more dysfunctional to keep it all bottled up and not have anywhere to rant.

"What do you need Christmas off for? You don't have kids!" (rant)

I do have children and very much wish I could spend every holiday home with them, but I chose to be a nurse and not have a 9-5 M-F job. Therefore I have to make some sacrifices. At my place of employment, on Christmas Day, everyone works 4 hrs. I love this myself. This way no one is stuck there on X-mas for 12 hrs. It works well for us. The other holidays, if you are sched. you work, but if you want it off, use vacation or someone will usually always trade days with you, so they can get the holiday pay. Marie...apparently this co-worker needs to learn to make sacrifices, or find another line of work. As if it is your fault she has children

    spooky spooky spooky

I have one not work related either. When I was little my mom had a baby born and she only lived for 2 hrs. Well I would see her outside on my swing set and beg my mom to let her come in and play with me. I described the dress she was buried in and the little stuffed bunny she was buried with. I didn't go to the funeral and never saw either one of these items. I look back now and think how traumitizing that must have been for my mom. To deal with the death of her baby and then me, about 4 yrs old, begging her to let her come inside. Mom said I would actually get very upset with her and say she was mean for not letting Heather come and play with me.

I've actually been taking Synthroid for some time now. Currently 150 mcg. About 3 yrs ago I was dx with hyperthyroidism, they used the radioactive pills, hence I now have hypothyroidism. Ever since then they have been adjusting my medication to try to get my TSH normal. Off the top of my head I can't remember exactly what my last draw was. I think around 60 or 70 something. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have took the pills and stayed hyper. I felt better then, plus I didn't have all this extra wgt. I've gained probably 40-50 lbs. and I have always been a small girl. Max wgt of 120, so it is a big sore spot for me. Sorry to ramble on and on. I'm just tired of being tired and feeling so worn down. It's like I don't have energy to do anything. Plus when I seen the endo yesterday he didn't spend 5 minutes with me and didn't do anything. I'm thinking about just having my MD follow it if she will. Save me money and the time of going to his office. Especially when I don't want to go anywhere anyhow........LOL Anyway once again, thanks for listening to me whine....

O.k. I went to the endo today and all he said was to cont. to take my current dose of Synthroid and recheck by TSH and free T4 in 6 weeks. I expected him to adjust my dose to at least help get me back to normal.......I was rather frustrated with the whole deal. I went for my original appt. and he was ill and wasn't going to be in until the afternoon, so I went back in the afternoon, on my only day off, between work and school. I felt like it was a complete waste of my time and money

Yes going to see the endo. on Wed. I was just shocked when Dr. showed me and it was that high, as I have not seen one this high before. I asked her if there was a decimal point somewhere in there, and there wasn't. LOL Explains why I feel so tired huh :)

Just a quick question. I had my TSH level drawn and it came back 373. Has anyone ever seen one this high?? Thanks in advance for any input

taking FMLA on intermittent basis...anyone done this?

I used FMLA as I needed to when my dgtr was born. I didn't always know when she was going to be sick, sometimes we would go to a sched Md appt. and have to hight tail it down to Riley Hospital with in the hour. It also covered me for all the times I would have to literally run out of the building in the middle of a shift because something was happening. FMLA is to use to care for yourself or a family member who is ill. Illnesses do not happen to convience us and are not always predictable. My place of employment was very understanding. I had used all 12 weeks of my FMLA prior to giving birth because of bed rest and such, so after my dgtr was born they gave me an extended FMLA. I just had to take the papers to the MD office and they filled them out. If I recall correctly on my papers and my husband's papers there was a spot to check if it was going to be PRN. Hope this helps some. I am sorry your place of employment is giving you a hard time. IF you are needing FMLA for whatever reason, you clearly don't need the headache of this also. It's sad that so many people take advantage of this program, and make it hard for those of us that need it.
