  1. Working during nursing school

14k for PCT training seems unbelievably expensive. It would take you forever to recoup that on PCT pay.
  2. How many of you...

We take the Kaplan every semester for 5% of our grade to prep us for the NCLEX.
  3. So Happy

Good for you!!! I just finished my first year, as well, but am still waiting on grades! Gah...
  4. What is the grading in you school

    93-100 = A 84-92 = B 78- 83 = C Below 78 = Failing It's tough to get a 92% on something and know it's a B. Sigh.
  5. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

There is student insurance available through NAU. It's the "major medical" and it's through Aetna. You can get it by semester and it comes out of your financial aid. And yes - sorry, the fingerprints can take a while. I already had a fingerprint...
  6. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

No, everything was pretty simple. I had everything done except the TB test (because that has to be done within a certain time period before classes begin) and was waiting around on that before I could turn everything in and get registered. On the nu...

Congratulations to the new Lumberjacks!!!!!!! Great job!!! I'm so excited for you all!
  8. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

Ahh. Dang website. Well, fingers crossed for Friday!
  12. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

Soah posted that at midnight, so I am taking it as in Friday!
  13. Having a nursing student/partner in crime

It will just happen that you'll be closer to some people in your program than others, but it's a really good idea to try to mix it up and be friendly with everyone (even if you still have one go-to "partner in crime") so that cliques are avoided...
  14. How many schools did you apply to?

I applied to my first choice and didn't get in, and applied to my backup and did get in (and ended up being so very happy in my backup program that I'm glad I didn't get in to the first school). It's always good to have options. Programs are gettin...
  15. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

I have my fingers crossed for all of you! I love being a Lumberjack! I hope the letters go out sooner than they said and you all get some nice, happy mail in the next week or so...
  16. Shadowing Opportunities

I was able to shadow at UMC in Tucson while I was taking my prereqs, but that was several years ago, and I don't know if the rules have changed. Each hospital has a recruiter office that you should be able to contact to see if it's a possibility. O...
  17. Best way to study in the car

My text book has audio keypoints for each chapter that you can download to a smart phone and listen to on your drive! We have the Mosby textbooks, but I'm sure others have a similar feature.
  18. newly accepted student have a question

At my school, they brought a company in that took the urine samples on site. And no, you don't get to choose the date - that rather defeats the purpose! Congrats on your acceptance!
  19. I know you should focus on yourself but..

After hearing from the cohort ahead of us that they ended up with three people failing, and had no idea that the people were struggling, my cohort (of 20) has talked a lot about not being ashamed to ask for study help, and to speak up sooner rather t...
  20. school,work,child

I worked full time and had kids during my pre-reqs and usually took 1-2 classes a semester. I would start slow, like some others have suggested, and if you find yourself not challenged, add another class. But be careful not to overwhelm yourself. ...
  21. Late Bloomer here. Am I too late?

You're not too late! There are a number of "mature" students in my program that are your age or older, and both of the men in my program (there are 20 of us in my cohort) have a decade on you. It's never too late to go for your dream job!
  22. I would focus on whatever you found the most difficult the first time around. For me it's endocrine. Whatever you are fuzzy on - start there. If you feel like you have a good grasp, then I would focus on the physiology more than the anatomy.
  23. NAU Spring 2013 Hopefuls

They're talking about the accelerated program up in Flagstaff! The traditional BSN acceptance letters probably won't come until mid-April.
  24. NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

Good luck! I'm in my second semester down in Tucson and I absolutely love it. I'm so happy to be in this program. Not that it doesn't have its frustrations, as I'm sure every program does, but overall it's really great. Oh, and I got my letter Apr...
  25. I'm INNNNNNNN!!!!!

Congrats, Lumberjack! You'll probably need a hemostat, bandage scissors, and a penlight, in addition to the other goodies.
