    Are You Popular At Work?

I am pretty popular But I think it has less to do with my stunning personality and good lucks (haha) and more to do with the fact that I am in the staffing pool and keep whatever floor I am sent to from being quite so short staffed:specs:
  2. It seems like it could be possible, but there is no way to know how your individual experience is going to go. And honestly, I seriously doubt you are going to want to work after 2 weeks with a newborn AND major abdominal surgery?? My OB told me it w...

MRSA again- Are You Kidding Me???

Umm, if there is no isolation equipment available- why even bother with "precautions"?? Wear a resident gown, really?? Granted I do think that sometimes precautions arent necessary as the previous poster stated when they have been on Vanc and are on ...

    WAS I REALLY HIRED???

I know from personal experience if you have lived in multiple states (I have) it really adds alot of time to the background check process, so maybe could be part of the problem. I would not hesitate to call hr. Who cares if they think you are nagging...

floating between departments ie med/surg to nicu

    oops misread a post
  6. I did mine at the local University here: University of South Alabama. The online part is 3 semesters (1 year) and its pretty affordable since its a state school. There are some prereqs and clinicals required however, but overall I was satisfied.

Decided to go Medical Assistant and discouraged

Same here. In fact, CNA's make a little bit more even if they work in hospitals in my area and not a nursing home.

    License endorsements..pls help

I have personally never worked one, but when I was travel nursing they told us about certain states that offer immediate licensure as an RN if you have all your paperwork when you arrive. I will copy and paste some info here from a website I found re...

    License endorsements..pls help

When I got my Florida license by endorsement it took 2 months....... But I have heard about states like California that are "walk-through" states. Maybe you should look into that.

    ER's Turn Non-Emergencies Away?

I have to agree that using an ER for non-emergencies is just plain fiscally irresponsible. If you dont have insurance and cant afford a doctor, how can you afford an ER bill?? Geez. I do think that in order for this to be successful, there should be...

    Alabama to Florida

No, just go to the Florida board of nursing's website and search for "liscensure by endorsement". You dont retake the boards to get a license in another state, but you do have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and send in fingerprints and about 200 bu...

    End-of-Life Education for the family?

I dont know what the official answer here is, but as an ICU nurse who has been placed in that position often I think it really just depends on the situation. However, I always tell them they need to discuss their wishes with the docs. Sometimes with ...

Pt./Family Comments that Leave You Speechless

LOL, no you can't. I went on maternity leave before he passed, so I am still not sure what happened there. I am sure it was pretty bad...........

Pt./Family Comments that Leave You Speechless

Had a patient who had a tear in his airway that was incompatible with life, not to mention advanced terminal lung cancer who was vented and on SEVEN drips after wife had given him some "miracle juice" she bought at the healthfood store through his G-...

    Stop calling me kid...

If you are off orientation with your own work load just like him, be frank and tell him that you are too busy to do his paperwork right now, but when you get caught up you'd be happy to help him if he's too behind. I would keep it short and sweet and...

    med error--real world answer?

This may not be a popular answer- flame me if you will- but if it was me I would have corrected it on the MAR and moved on with my life. I find that there are many many minor errors that day shift makes on the MAR often when a med is first ordered, w...

floating between departments ie med/surg to nicu

I think the difference between floating as a tech or student (no offense here) is the level of responsibility. I think the concern from nurses about floating is that if, for example, say a med-surg nurse was floated to Neuro ICU, has no NICU experien...

you know you are in for trouble when.....

LOL. Or even better: "My grand niece's sister's cousin twice removed is in nursing school, and she wants to talk to you and look at the chart."

    I have a question...

One of the many reasons when my caller ID says the hospital I DONT ANSWER. I will listen to the voice mail and return the call if I need to. If you arent scheduled, dont answer the phone. How can you HAVE to come in-if you didnt get the message in ti...

    STNA/CNA with EMT-B

My husband is a CNA who is working on his paramedic. He just got his EMT-B. They have tech positions in the ER often times that are for EMT/Techs. Its the only way I know of to combine the 2 areas. I dont think there is much difference in pay but you...
  21. I did mine at University of South Alabama's program, which was mostly online. Although did require me to do a second practicum (had already done one for my ADN) and some "community" stuff, like presentations on handwashing at a day care, ect. I had t...

    new grad options

Totally depends on the person.......end of story
  23. I looked into doing that, and the jobs I saw posted (few and far between by the way) for "flight nursing" require extensive RN experience in in a critical care setting, plus some national certifications and such. Its not something you can generally ...

    Barry University CRNA interview

I was accepted there and started their program last year. I dropped quickly however since I realized CRNA school was not what I wanted to do-so I dont know much about the program beyond the first month. But I can tell you that the interview consisted...
