  1. I am hoping to receive some feedback from you. I have to right a paper for my MSN program about how Betty Neuman's theory fits into my practice. I am completely struggling. I chose her because none of the other theorists seemed to fit. I also have to...
  2. PA's make more $$ than NP's?!

I've considered NP school, and, after talking with several NPs who work in academics I was very disappointed to hear that PA's make more $$ than NPs. Especially since many NPs have years of nursing experience which I would think puts them at an advan...
  3. Job prospect with MN degree

I am enrolled in an MN program and was wondering if you would comment on your job with an MN. I'm hoping the program will provide some guidance for me, but I'm feeling some cold feet about it and what this degree will do for me in the future. Thank y...
  4. Job prospect with MN degree

@TraumaRUs: Thank you for sharing your story. It makes it more real to know that I'm not alone. It's difficult to find the right fit in life. I may decide to do something completely different next year, or better yet, maybe my employer will pay for m...
  5. Job prospect with MN degree

@elkpark: That's why I'm reconsidering the program now, prior to paying tuition and investing time. I think it is a critical statement to make the assumption that I did not consider what the endpoint would be. How can one really know for certain wha...
  6. Job prospect with MN degree

It's an MN degree, not an MSN. The focus is leadership and education.
  7. PA's make more $$ than NP's?!

I ask you one question. How is going to PA school with no experience different from going to med school with no experiece. SWR PA-S I think there's a big difference, even if you include NPs into the question. A PA-C/NP training is 2 years. Medical d...
  8. Wanted to open a conversation about the growing trend of nonmedical personnel replacing research nurses. Personally, I think this is frightining, especially since people hired for these positions are often unqualified (BA's, no clinical research expe...
  9. Seattle Pacific University

The program is okay. Not a lot of support from the faculty. Lots of $$. Limited diversity. I didn't feel prepared at all when I finished. I worked on the floor for a year and left. I have no desire to go back. I'm making way better money using my de...
  10. Replacing Research RN's with non license coordinators

I don't think it's going to change any time soon. I think you have a good attitude about this, and I also think you're right about it not changing soon. I remember when I started research nursing I had to start with the blood draw studies and such si...
  11. Thinking of going back to the floor

I'm a research nurse too in oncology studies. I'm in a position too where I can make some $$ by working with CRO's....but.....I then I also think about going to the floor or going to school for NP. I agree, I think you should try it per diem to see i...
  12. Replacing Research RN's with non license coordinators

I think it varies from institution to institution. We have coordinators with no experience you've described above who are in charge of phase 1/2 trials, with little PI involvement. To add, these are very sick patients, all taking 30+ meds. I don't u...
  13. Dumb question--What do you NPs do?

It looks like you have a very fullfilling career! I hope to say that about my career someday...
  14. Dumb question--What do you NPs do?

Trauma RN, Did you find your MSN to be worth the time invested/money spent in school? Just curious about job opportunities with this as this degree path has been recommended to me. I'm contemplating it, however, want more patient contact and feel the...
  15. Any MBAs out there?

Wanted to open a discussion about nurses/APN/CNS with MBAs, if, there are any of you out there? What job do you hold with your MBA? Anyone out there with an MHA? Curious about what you do.
  16. I'm moving to hawaii in several months with my boyfriend (he is from hawaii and is homesick, poor thing) and I am contemplating returning to the floor. However, it has been difficult for me to forget my horrible experience as a new nurse in Seattle. ...
  17. Thinking about going back to the floor, but.....

Well, I've spent some time checking out refresher courses. They run approx 3K! I've also spoken 4 nurses who have taken these, one in particular who has been out for 20 years or so and he felt it wasn't helpful. Another nurse co-worker made similar c...
  18. Why NP and not PA?

I'd appreciate all your input! I've been a research nurse for 5 years and have always had an interested in midlevel work and am ready to pursue. I'm having a hard time deciding which route to go. I've talked to both NPS and PAs. Many of the PAs fro...
  19. Thinking about going back to the floor, but.....

Thank you for your encouragement and suggestions. I do have authorship on 1 paper (not the first or last author, but at least I'm on!) and I will be on another paper that will be published in 2 years or so. I've also written an abstract and presented...
  20. Thinking about going back to the floor, but.....

Oops, I meant to say I'm NOT a new grad... Didn't profread that one..(; In that case, would be good to look into a refresher course. They offer courses in Seattle for a pretty penny, but in my case, may be worth it. I would like to do more hands on ...
  21. Thinking about going back to the floor, but.....

To clarify when I say I've gained experience in clinical research: My job title is a research nurse. I do investigational drug studies, which involves administering medication, assessing for toxicities, following labs, intervening etc. I work closely...
  22. Job market for MN degree?

I've been encouraged to pursue an MN degree but do not know much about the job market with this degree. I know you can teach with this, what else can be done? And is it worth it financially to do it? Anybody have any comments?
  23. Job market for MN degree?

Master in Nursing. Concentration could be leadership, for example. I was encouraged to look into it and was curious to see if any of you reading this form have this and/or could comment on it.
  24. Please Help Me

Have you considered becoming a research nurse? It's not as chaotic as working on the floor and the hours are better. No nights! The drawback is you don't get the shift differentials. So you'll need to consider quality of life vs the xtra $500/month.
  25. Ways to use my BSN other than bedside nursing???

You could probably get hired as a research nurse or a study coordinator, especially if you have some experience in research. If you've filled out case report forms, are familiar with following a protocol, know some regulatory/IRB stuff, play this up....
