  1. Vol State/TSU Nursing Program

I am currently study at Vol State getting my pre-req's for nursing. Their nursing program is teamed up with TSU on the Vol State campus. I have heard some good things and I have heard some bad things about their program. I was wondering if anyone on ...
  2. Horrified at what I have seen go on in this nursing home

Let me just say I worked in a nursing home for 2 years before getting a job at the hospital. It was horrid. For me, it wasn't only how the residents were treated (by some nurses and techs, not all were bad). And I reported a LOT. Any time I reported ...
  3. If I go for my ASN now, can I go back later to get a BSN?

I'm getting my associates in nursing and the hospital I'm working at as a CNT said that after I get my ADN I can work as an RN there and if I decide to bridge to a BSN they will pay for it if I sign a contract to stay there for X amount if years.
  4. Pt's/visitors reading Fifty Shades of Grey???

Right now I have 50 Shades of Grey downloaded on my phone and I am reading it. Yep. Not gonna lie. I'm addicted.
  5. Took a Break

Don't get yourself too down. I have been out of high school for four years. I have only taken one semester of college courses (which I have to retake to boost my GPA. I am going back after not taking any classes for two years. It can be done. I will ...
  6. BSN versus ADN

Okay so I would like opinions. I know I for sure want to be an RN but torn if I want to get my BSN or ADN. Judging by the schools in this area the only ADN school I want to attend is a private Catholic one that is 7500/ semester. They have a great re...
  7. BSN versus ADN

Thanks for all the opinions. I am most likely going for my BSN (wish I could change my user name lol). It'll be worth it in the end, I'll spend almost as much time in school for either. Plus BSN will look better. Not to mention the money! I would rat...
  8. CNA jobs and the distance it takes to get to them!

Where I live, places are always hiring CNAs. Whether its LTC, home health, or hospice. It may not always be glamorous but my LTC facility is so desperate for CNAs (we are ALWAYS short, every shift), they have an ad in the newspaper for new CNAs.
  9. Pt's/visitors reading Fifty Shades of Grey???

And I agree, if that is the worst part of the job in the past 5 months, count your blessings. I'm a CNA and I wish the worst was someone's reading material. I really do...
  10. Pt's/visitors reading Fifty Shades of Grey???

At least they aren't using their call light as a sex toy (yes, that has happened to me lol).
  11. When Do You Start Fall Semester?

The CC I'm attending has classes officially starting the 25th (Saturday) but that's for online classes. My classes start the 27th I am beyond excited to knock a few more pre-req's out!!! Good luck to everyone in the coming semester :)
  12. Has anyone ever worked as a CNA while going to nursing school full time?

I'm not in nursing school yet but I plan to continue working as a CNA until I finish. I had one friend who worked during nursing school every Sunday (6a-6p) and most Saturdays (6a-6p) until she got through nursing school and she said it was difficult...
  13. CNA frustrated with co-workers!!!

Okay I have been a CNA for a little over a year and a half at a LTC facility. I'm currently getting my pre-req's for my nursing degree. I know its a nursing home and you don't expect the best of care there but I have just had it with just about every...
  14. Ughhhh oh my gosh I know!!!! Some of these CNA's that think they are nurses and a few LPN's I work with think they are doctors. Those are the absolute worst!!! Then a few nurses think they are physical therapists saying we need to walk someone down t...
  15. nightmares

The facility I am at I worked out for a year before. I quit and went to work at a hospital (a month into my employment at the hospital I had to have an emergency oophorectomy and couldn't work for 6-8 weeks so they "filled my position" because FMLA d...
  16. Throw it on the floor?!

I have been guilty of throwing stuff on the floor, I'm not gonna lie. Now I carry small trash bags and put diapers in the bags and with linens, I roll them up (clean side out) and put it on the foot of the bed until I can put it in the linen barrels....
  17. CNA + medical assisant

I would not suggest MA. Everyone I have known to take an MA program has not been able to find a job. They are mostly hired in doctor's offices. I am a CNA and one girl I work with went to an MA program and couldn't find a job as an MA so she is still...
  18. Why are Nurses so mean to each other?

Has no one heard the phrase "Nurses eat their young"? Its very true from what I have seen. Not everyone is like that, but it is not completely rare to see it.
  19. What to expect on PM shift?

Hahahaha this part made my day! But it is so definitely true!
  20. I think most nursing homes will hire without experience. Right now I am a CNA and the nursing home I work at hires nurses right out of nursing school and trains them. There was one nurse that was hired right on the spot the day he filled out an appli...
  21. I Don't Know How To Study :(

(Not that I am glad that anyone bombed their first college semester) But it makes me feel better knowing that I am not the only one around here who has done it. Finally starting back to classes 2 years later!!!
  22. What to expect on PM shift?

Speaking of work, I just got home from it. To answer your questions, we do not have delegated CNA's just for showers. I get the resident, gather clean clothes, diaper, etc. and give them their shower and get them dressed. I almost always do all of ou...
  23. Amen! When I tell people that I am majoring in nursing, I either get "good for you!" or "why don't you just become a doctor?" That questions irritates me so much! Like people who assume nursing is for people who can't become doctors. No, its a whole ...
  24. Should I become a nurse for the money??

If you want something "just for the money" try something in business. My sister in law is an accountant and makes 6 digits a year. I would not suggest nursing for money.
  25. I Don't Know How To Study :(

I have a major problem studying (mostly because I can't focus). I have ADHD inattentive type where it is extremely hard to focus. I'm going to get on some medication and hopefully it'll help me with school (I had to drop out a few semesters ago becau...
