  1. May I speak to Dr. so&so?

I would be willing to bet there isn't a single sporting goods store on the planet that would carry a cup to fit the massive set she grew that night... Way to go! :bowingpur
  2. Is this common practice or was I in the wrong??

    Congrats on the interview...good luck!
  3. I don't want to identify myself as a nurse; my family, however, isn't so bashful
  4. Someone's Family member almost died today.

That was beautiful, Mara...did you write it?
  5. Nursing candy bars

Anyone want a KitKatacholamine? How about a Diuresis Peanut Butter cup? Or perhaps diaphoresis pieces? Maybe a 100 Grand Mal Seizure? Milky Wenkebach?
  6. Will I get fired?

    :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle
  7. Will I get fired?

You just don't get it...this has NOTHING to do with that nurse...this has EVERYTHING to do with your poor attitude and your lack of responsibility. Nobody gives a flying fig about what that nurse does or doesn't do in her spare time...and it's no one...
  8. Have you helped/saved anyone while off duty?

LOL...I would have been like "umm...YOU'RE WELCOME!"
  9. What would you have done?

Reading your post, I'm reminded of a similar situation that occurred when I was an aide. I had a lady who was a feeder and was also frequently incontinent. One evening after helping her with supper, I checked her undergarment--sure enough, she needed...

  14. positive drug test help

Whenever I've taken a drug test, I've always had an opportunity to list the medications (prescription or otherwise) that I have taken so they know ahead of time in case it shows up in my sample. Did they not ask you the same thing?
  15. First Contaminated Needlestick

I'm sorry this happened to you...although I haven't stuck myself with a contaminated needle, I was exposed to a pt's blood, and it came in contact with an open sore I had on my thumb. Getting tested was definitely scary; I went through the typical em...
  16. Going back to school!

that is so freakin' cool!!! when i was in nursing school, there were several 50+ students in my class (and one of them was male). i'm so proud of you...you're gonna be great!
  17. Meal and Potty Breaks

It's bad enough when things are so busy during a regular 8 hr shift that you can't get away for even a few minutes, but it really sucks when you're forced to double, and you STILL can't get a break in. I did a night to day double for 18.5 hours yeste...
  18. Difference Between a New Nurse and an Old Nurse

A new nurse is eager to ask the doctor's advice and follow it accordingly. An old nurse gives the doctor advice and tells him/her what should be done. A new nurse is very upset over his/her first "mistake". The old nurse isn't too upset because he/sh...

    :barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01::barf01:
  20. Did I overreact?

Oops...forgot to mention that I did ask another (experienced) nurse first, and we tried to find documentation of the tube measurement, but couldn't find it...she also thought it would be a good idea to call the physician just to be safe.
  21. Did I overreact?

I am a newer nurse ( My question is, did I overreact by calling the MD? Was it appropriate for the other nurse to push the tubing in? BTW, the KUB showed that the tube placement was fine.
  22. What does it mean to learn?

I don't remember the names of the bones of the wrist, but I can tell you the mnemonic...Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can't Handle :monkeydance: :roll ~Lori
  23. Needlesticks

Never had a needlestick (God willing), but I got blood in an open cut on my hand...they tested the pt (neg for hep C/HIV), and I continue to be tested with negative results. Count your blessings!!!
  24. Need help with my cardiac drugs

  25. I blew it!Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

i don't think you "blew" your chances of getting into nursing school...many people (myself included) have issues with math or science, and some need a little help now and then. you said you can take the math again in january? in that case, this isn't...
