  1. Transfers

Quick question.. are you guys allowed to transport a healthy baby from L&D to post partum while mom is holding the infant? In a wheelchair or bed. Not walking. Just curious what other hospitals are doing. Thanks!
  2. Who were you in high school

I was popular but not bc I was part of the "popular" crowd. I was friends with them all but I had my own "middle class click". I have a twin sister so I think that made me well known. Everyone knew us as "the twins". I was in choir and drill team. I ...
  3. Transfer issues with LVN to RN?

Your LVN license will transfer to any nursing program. I went to a private school for my LVN six yrs ago. When I got ready to do my transition, I had to take pre reqs first. once I had those I had no problem getting in. I was accepted into three diff...
  4. Medical dosage calculations

The book "Dimensional Analysis for meds" came with a CD tutorial that taught me how to do dimensional analysis for all med problems. It was a true life saver!
  5. Best and Worst places for LPN opportunities

I'm an LVN in Texas going on 6 yrs. I am currently in an LVN to RN transition program but I've never had a problem getting a job in Texas as an LVN. The pay is decent too.
  6. Im just a student myself but perhaps i can try and help. I would think a CBC would be significant. You'd monitor the WBC (which you already have) and probably RBC, Hgb, Hct, and Plt count to monitor for blood loss. I've even seen CRPs monitored post ...
  7. Should I take a semester off and do an externship?

Yes, this is a hospital :-) I feel very blessed! They only took 5 of us this year.
  8. Should I take a semester off and do an externship?

I'm in an externship and it requires you being in your last year of RN school with a contract to work for them for 1 yr past graduation. They also pay for my school, pay while I work, pay for my books, and give me a monthly allowance for gas. It's to...
  9. Just to name a few: Following the appropriate diet, reducing stress, following prescribed medication regimens, keeping scheduled follow up appts with PCP,etc ....are ways to decrease the risks of a UC flair up. Think of it like this: What can cause...
  10. IV Flushing & clots

Maybe u should try removing some of the fluid in your flush initially (before you use it), like 1/2 a ml or so. The reason I say that is bc at our facility I've noticed that the flushes are hard to push initially, and sometimes it feels like the IV w...
  11. HELP! How to write a nursing note on a lesion

Well I'm no nurses note expert but I'd just say: pt has a flat brown symmetrical patch/lesion to R antebrachial area, 3 cms in length with discrete distribution and no exudate. Hope that helps! You pretty much had it! Just put it into a sentence. :)
  12. Lpns in the er

I've worked in the ER, took my own patients, pushed my own IV meds etc....full patient care under my scope as an LVN, which is pretty broad in Texas, in my opinion.
  13. Psychology+ Nursing...Medical School, Im stuck. HELP

Go to a 4 year university and work on a bachelors degree rather than another associates. I believe Financial aid picks up and pays additional money for bachelors degrees, just not for a double associates.
  14. LVN to RN...finally.

My program is a transition program and every student in the program (there are 50 of us) are licensed LVNs. Some of us are considered "community LVNs" bc we have experience and the others, which came into the RN program directly from the LVN program ...

  16. Paranoia or Valid Concern, I Don't Know...

My kids aren't in daycare at all since my husband stays home, but, I find it very do-able to do homework with three kids around all the time. You adjust, and u just do what you gotta do. It's hard sometimes, but most time, since I have 3 children, th...
  17. Paranoia or Valid Concern, I Don't Know...

I can totally relate to this! My daughter has an immune system disfunction and has suffered life threatening pneumonia repeatedly as well as MANY other conditions and complications. Daycare is just not an option for her. She will be exposed to way t...
  18. How often are clinicals?

We attend clinicals on Monday and Tuesday and have lecture on Thursday.
  19. performance anxiety

Your confidence will build with time and success. I promise! Don't be so hard on yourself. Take some deep breaths before you go in and tell yourself "I can do this". If it helps any at all, try to spark a conversation with your patient while your in ...
  20. performance anxiety

I always pray first! I've never stuck someone without saying "Lord, please guide my needle". I feel like it really helps me calm down and know that Gods in control and with Him, I can be a vessel for His greatness. Yes, even through an IV stick. :) ...
  21. How long is your commute to nursing school?

I'm drive an hour and 15 mins away. That's for class and clinical.
  22. In our program we are each assigned a mentor. The mentor is actually one of the instructors in our program. We have 6 instructors so they all take a group of us and if we have questions and such along the way, we go to our assigned mentor.
  23. How are your grades posted?

Our program doesn't round up or down. Your points are as is. We have to have 70% to pass. However, if your test grade is below 75%, you are required to attend tutoring. We also have a medication math test each semester that your required to make 100%...
  24. IS IT ME............?

I can see the pressure to obtain your BSN. In my area, almost all hospitals are transitioning that way, in order to obtain the highest rating status in patient care. However, I don't see the pressure to obtain an MSN or PhD unless that is actually wh...
  25. What is the average of a nursing student?

We have a very non traditional class. There are 65 of us and all but maybe 15 are over 25. I'm 28 myself. Our youngest is 22 I believe.
