Applicants to Portland area schools
Thx Portland medic. I think I'm going to go with Pcc even though it's killing me. I want to go to np school eventually and can't imagine being 100k + in debt. It's just going to take me a lot longer to get there. At least I'll get to ohsu eventually. Good luck to you!

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
Well I am likely to give up my spot so that should give you hope. I just can't take on that sort of debt when I plan to go to np school eventually. Pcc here I come. Fyi I was given 12500 in fed loans, the rest to be private. My efc was 6100. Good luck waitlisters!

Congrats Portland medic! I actually just got a call from ohsu absn program and am now trying to decide between Pcc and ohsu. You don't seem scared by the difference in cost - I'd love to hear your thought process to help me decide. Thanks!

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
I just got a call this afternoon from OHSU offering me a spot in the summer cohort! I'm kind of overwhelmed trying to figure out logistics. How has financial aid worked out for other admitted students? I'm about to call them, but am wondering if they'll even tell me anything since I'm not an admitted student in their system. How can I know to accept without seeing if I can actually afford it with their package? Did any admitted student need to go outside of OHSU in order to fund the program?

I spoke with a current first year pcc student this week and am confused by some of the posts I've read here now. He said that no one from his class has left the program and just a few from the class ahead of him have left. I think someone earlier had said 30 people had dropped out? Anyway, he likes the program and, with the exception of a couple annoying teachers, feels really good about it. It made me feel better about going there this fall at any rate.

Applicants to Portland area schools
Hey PCC people, I'm paranoid and just want to double check - the first orientation is 6/5 from 9-11? I called the health admissions number and left a message asking for more information last week and no one has called me back. I'm not sure how they expect us to know when, where, etc.... Anyone else wondering, worried about this?

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
hi llh5057, thanks for sharing so much. just a couple questions - i couldn't tell if you were saying that more of the waitlisters were accepted for fall rather than summer. is that true? also, your description of the program seems so different from sarabear44's post at the beginning of this thread (spring 2011). she made it seem really balanced with free time for personal interests, etc. does that feel true for you or do you feel like you are basically living at school? thanks!

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
Hey Bugg, I'm on the waitlist so don't know anything about financial aid yet. Did they offer you nursing student loans? Were you supposed to be responsible for seeking out your own private loans? I'm a little concerned about this as well. I'm wondering if government student loan money is just drying up generally and everyone is going to have a hard time paying for school... My husband is likely to lose his job soon and so our 2011 1040 does not reflect what the future is going to be for us financially. It does seem crazy to pass up OHSU, but it is scary to take that kind of risk too. I don't know what I'll do should I be so fortunate as to be offered a spot.

Hi lilpoka, what did you think of the clothing situation? did you feel like the proctors were paying attention? i'm still on the fence about dressing up. i actually feel better when i'm wearing comfortable clothing and dress up clothes are not comfortable for me. i know it seems silly, but one of the many pluses about the nursing profession to me is the comfy uniform :)

OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012
I just found out I was waitlisted and am also wondering how many people are on the waitlist. It seems like many of the people on this thread were. I am just happy to have made the alternate list though since getting in at all seemed like a longshot. My prereq gpa is a 4.0, but my overall gpa is only 3.45. I do have high gre scores and what I think is a strong essay, but it doesn't seem that those factors are enough to balance out the low overall gpa. Good luck everyone!

i think i got either 59 or 60 points at PCC and have a 4.0 prereq gpa with a prior bachelor's degree. i'm not sure if they took my patient contact experience or not which is why i'm not sure about whether i have 59 or 60 points. i think it's better to be safe than sorry in the attire department as well, but honestly i'm skeptical that it will be taken into account because 1) likely, the person who checks us in/ proctors isn't going to spend time taking notes on how we are dressed; and 2) we're assigned a number to use with our essays and i assume that is to keep the process objective and anonymous. how will they know who is dressed which way unless the person/people proctoring are taking notes? however, i will be playing it safe since i don't want to leave anything to chance. does anyone know how many people are offered interviews?

Got my PCC letter yesterday as well! It sounds as though the process is different than at MHCC - the letter just says 1.5 hours for the essay plus some time to print. Is there reason to dress up? What are people wearing to take the essay? It seems that since our essays will be identified by a number, it won't really matter too much whether we wear jeans or business casual. What do you think? I don't want to make a big sartorial blunder. Thanks everyone for sharing information so generously! It is very reassuring to hear your experiences.
