  1. The future of Obamacare

In a rather large city in TN, a news program featured interviews of people standing for hours in a line to get their utility bill paid by a government program. On the other side of the street a temp company advertised several jobs. A reporter point...
  2. The future of Obamacare

You are exactly right and your statement supports my point. Any freebie to ANYONE is something working people, rich, middle class, or poor must pay for. Big corporate companies are guilty. GM is a good example. Belly up and whining they just had t...
  3. The future of Obamacare

The real issue and point of the quote is that if you get something free from the government, then someone somewhere had to pay for it. Although I suppose the real situation now is when the government gives away freebies, then they borrow to do it an...
  4. Cost of Living Index Comparison for TN Cities

    Above link is now broken.
  5. Give up patient care - how long did you last?

    4 years in critical care
  6. Drinks at the nurses station

I would like to see controlled studies regarding impact of inadequate hydration of nursing staff. Every place I've worked where nurses had to walk to a lounge area to simple get a drink of water, nurses complained of frequent UTI's.
  7. Do you draw up blood on your own?

Work in an ICU and rarely (thank goodness) have to draw blood from anywhere except a central line. I'm not sure I'd be that good at it. But frankly, I get tired of those hourly BG checks when running insulin drips.
  8. Why would I NOT help? I'm confused.

Bravo for you! You are one of the few who get it. I work in an ICU and the nurses do everything. We always have to rely on fellow nurses, and frankly, they're all busy sometimes. All ICU's should have nursing assistants who can help turn and clea...
  9. "Gimme, gimme, gimme!" Does EVERYONE just want a free ride?

But most folks overseas pay taxes to the tune of about 60% so they can have government healthcare. Our system needs reform, but I would like to see reform coupled with TIMELY QUALITY care. Is this scenario possible or even probable in some other co...
  10. "Gimme, gimme, gimme!" Does EVERYONE just want a free ride?

Tort reform is one way to attack over-utilization. If people going to the ER with a stubbed toe knew that they would be turned away AND that there would be no profitable trip to the lawyer if they were turned away, then I dare say that they would th...
  11. VA Emplyment process

I agree with all these replies. I'm a VA nurse. I remember starting my process in November, and I wasn't presented with a formal contract until April of the next year. You might have to work PRN somewhere else while you wait. I also love my job and...
  12. Some things when stirred smell even more. But, I will say that some students have learned the 'help me, tell me' habit very well. This learned helplessness is sometimes deliberate, and sometimes not. Just stick to your own knitting. Helping her migh...
  13. Proper Way to List Credentials?

Although this advisor sounds a bit thorny, it is entirely appropriate for someone with a PhD who works in an academic setting to be called Dr. An example would be someone who has PhD in chemistry and who teaches that subject in a university.
  14. Nursing as a second career...am I doomed

Go for the ADN at the college who will consider your circumstances of the past. Then, get your BSN asap, online, whatever. My institution will hardly interview ADN's, and do not pay them appropriately. You will be able to hopefully retake some cours...
  15. I am tired of this attitude

This statement just tries to express the idea that if the nurse looks after her/his needs first, then good patient care will follow. If you're a square peg trying to fit yourself into a round hole, you're not doing and being all you can. If you fin...
  16. I am tired of this attitude

I beg to differ. Those nurses who were good at their jobs, but who did not get pain meds to your son on time were not 'good'.
  17. Nursing as second career

  18. I don't fit in anywhere!!!

I commend you for giving your feelings a voice. Too many of us spend too much of our lives doing what we think we 'should', what we think we 'should be grateful for', blah blah blah...... Follow your inner voices. This does not mean that you should...
  19. IV drip rates

    min = 1 min x 10 gtts x 2500 ml = 25000 = 833 min or 13.8 hrs 30 gtts 1 ml 1 30 13.8 hrs = 13 hrs and 48 min
  20. The future of Obamacare

slavery is not at issue here. i'm referring to the common sense of the statement, not to philosophy of the man who wrote it. financial sense is just not that common anymore. the quote was: “you cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislat...
  21. The future of Obamacare

Southern Baptist or not.......there's a lot of common sense there.
  22. The future of Obamacare

    The Huffington Post? Really........
  23. The future of Obamacare

people against medicare for all are not for denying care. they just want to make sure that they are not taxed to death to pay for those who demand entitlements. taxpayers are those who work. "you cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legisla...
  24. The future of Obamacare

There is a better answer than government-run healthcare. We just have to find it. These tea-baggers are just people who have seen government-run institutions run off the rails and don't want to see their taxes ill spent. I make sacrifices in order ...
  25. The future of Obamacare

"you cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. what one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. the government cannot give to anybody anything that the governm...
