  1. THANK YOU! I was blown away by her ridiculous comment & was hoping someone would address it before I flew off the handle LOL.

COVID: The Straw That Broke the Nurse's Back

How many nurses were fired due to not taking the vaccine?

    Psych nurses don't know medical?

There is definitely a stigma. I work a chaotic mixture of both: medicine psych! Gives me a run for my $ every day LOL.

    Hospice or School Nurse?

Hello! I worked inpatient hospice for 2.5 years & it was amazing. Hospice has a different vibe, obviously different outcome than any other specialty, which really tones down the mood. I have never in my life felt so fulfilled & full of light ...

Having a Tough Time on a Bad Unit

I don’t have advice necessarily, but just wanted to acknowledge that you are most certainly not alone, & it’s totally understandable if you’re upset with the environment. I will say this: there are many MANY mis-managed floors/units etc across th...

Condescension from Critical Care Nurses Towards Med-Surg Nurses

Yes, I feel this lol. I have respect for all nurses (it’s not an easy career) and I don’t think emergencies and death and codes are necessarily the worst things in health care, nor are they the hardest to deal with emotionally. It’s not a competition...
  11. I’m positive that her hospital uses “COWs” or has access to them. I can’t imagine being so cocky or forgetful or WHATEVER SHE WAS that I wouldn’t scan the med & the patient.... and monitor them after giving the med even? But what do I know... lol...
  12. And she didn’t scan the med or the patient. I mean, good god....
  13. As much as we’ve all made med errors, this goes above & beyond that. She skipped over several NECESSARY steps & a patient died. im sure she feels bad but damn.

What do you think are some of the best places to work in psych?

Yes 100%. We all have duress buttons, all patient rooms / hallways have video cameras (& we have staff that specifically monitor the feed at all times), we have a large code team, & all have been trained specifically for dealing with situatio...

What do you think are some of the best places to work in psych?

Agreed! I work inpatient med-psych at a large teaching hospital & we have great staff.

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

Yeah, she overrode/skipped/ignored several procedures. I mean, when that happens one should expect disciplinary action at the very least!

    Med Psych anyone?

Does anyone work med psych? I really enjoy this branch of nursing, but I don’t know of a lot of nurses who work med psych.

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

That was amazing. Thank you ?

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

No, not even a little bit.

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

How about just the ordered amount then? You really think it makes sense to require a witness every single time you pull a CS? Ativan, Morphine, Methadone etc really require 2 people? man, when I worked inpatient hospice that would’ve been impossible...

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

Doesn’t seem very time-effective to have a witness every time you pull a med...that’s ridiculous & sounds like the higher-ups don’t trust their own staff. I don’t know, just seems odd to me.

    Nurse Charged With Homicide

Do others have to have a witness simply to pull meds (controlled obviously) from the Pyxis, etc? We don’t, never have anywhere I’ve worked...only if we’re going to waste some of it of course.

    Advice for potential RN

Sure! I am going into my 5th year of nursing, & have branched out into Med Psych nursing. I know that isn’t too common, but my teaching hospital has a unit like that & I have very much enjoyed it/the patients. It’s definitely challenging, med...

    Another Tragedy at Vanderbilt

But that isn’t the only thing she did that resulted in the patient’s death. That was just one in a number of things. The CMS report is quite disturbing.
