Yes, I feel this lol. I have respect for all nurses (it’s not an easy career) and I don’t think emergencies and death and codes are necessarily the worst things in health care, nor are they the hardest to deal with emotionally. It’s not a competition...

I’m positive that her hospital uses “COWs” or has access to them. I can’t imagine being so cocky or forgetful or WHATEVER SHE WAS that I wouldn’t scan the med & the patient.... and monitor them after giving the med even? But what do I know... lol...

And she didn’t scan the med or the patient. I mean, good god....

As much as we’ve all made med errors, this goes above & beyond that. She skipped over several NECESSARY steps & a patient died. im sure she feels bad but damn.

Yes 100%. We all have duress buttons, all patient rooms / hallways have video cameras (& we have staff that specifically monitor the feed at all times), we have a large code team, & all have been trained specifically for dealing with situatio...

Agreed! I work inpatient med-psych at a large teaching hospital & we have great staff.

Yeah, she overrode/skipped/ignored several procedures. I mean, when that happens one should expect disciplinary action at the very least!

How about just the ordered amount then? You really think it makes sense to require a witness every single time you pull a CS? Ativan, Morphine, Methadone etc really require 2 people? man, when I worked inpatient hospice that would’ve been impossible...

Doesn’t seem very time-effective to have a witness every time you pull a med...that’s ridiculous & sounds like the higher-ups don’t trust their own staff. I don’t know, just seems odd to me.

Do others have to have a witness simply to pull meds (controlled obviously) from the Pyxis, etc? We don’t, never have anywhere I’ve worked...only if we’re going to waste some of it of course.

But that isn’t the only thing she did that resulted in the patient’s death. That was just one in a number of things. The CMS report is quite disturbing.
