  1. Should I Quit or Give up? Glucometer Failure ?

I used to have this problem....press harder when pricking the patient so you can get more blood to come out. The strip will fill up easily now. You're welcome :)
  2. CPNRE January 2016

Did anyone else write the exam yesterday? What did you think of it?
  3. When To Specialize

Get that 6 months out of the way and start applying right after that. I started in my specialty straight out of nursing school and I'm doing just fine.
  4. To tell or not to tell?

    I wouldn't be a tattle-tale.
  5. I feel so unprepared compared to you guys. All I bring in my bag is extra pens, lip balm and moisturizer lol.
  6. Sioux Lookout

Where have you been applying? Have you tried places like Guelph, Kitchener, Hamilton, London etc. I was out of work for like 10 months but now I have two jobs. One of them is where I did my consolidation. You will eventually find something if you kee...
  7. I was unemployed before and during nursing school. I finished last year December and now I have two nursing jobs in the specialty that I want to work in. It probably helps to have a job in a hospital for the connections but you don't need it.
  8. Preceptor gift

Card, box of chocolates and a nice plant. Get a card and a box of chocolates for the unit too.
  9. I think it at least helps to make your resume look better than other new grads who aren't volunteering. If there's a specific patient population you're looking to work with then volunteer somewhere where you will be interacting with those kinds of pe...
  10. Pros and cons of psych nursing?

How often does one work with a violent/aggressive patient? (daily, weekly, monthly?) I'm working on a forensic psych unit and haven't had any incidents so far. I have heard stories of nurses being attacked a few months ago though. Is being a psychi...
  11. Before clinical I thought I wanted to work in the ER or an acute care unit at a big hospital. During clinical I learned that I didn't like any of the medical units at all. I found them all to be stressful and couldn't see myself working on those kind...
  12. I can't find a JOB!! I'm so discouraged

One more thing...a lot of my classmates are working as PSW's since they can't find a nursing job. I know it's not nursing but I'm sure it pays more than Tim Horton's. It might also help you get a nursing job at the facility that you're working at.
  13. Wearing Scrubs Outside of the Workplace

I think it's gross and pretty tacky to wear your scrubs in public. Do you really need to show the whole world that you're a nurse? It's like the guys who wear their military uniform for no reason. It takes two minutes to go in a washroom and change y...
  14. I can't find a JOB!! I'm so discouraged

I'm a new grad and I didn't get interviews until I started applying in smaller cities and towns.
  15. RPN- RN Bridging Inquiries!

Congrats on getting the job. What hospital is it at? I graduated in December and still haven't found anything.
  16. Last semester of Practical Nursing.. is this even fair?

At my school they said you need to pass all 3 comprehensive tests but guess what? A lot of people failed the tests and still passed at the end. I don't think anyone fails pre-grad unless your preceptor reports you for being incompetent or something. ...
  17. CNO Registration

Congrats on getting hired. What kind of unit is it?
  18. How long did your CNO registration take?

I haven't received my registration forms yet because I wrote thejurisprudence exam after I got my CPNRE results. Are they going to mail the forms or should I call them?
  19. Least stressful nursing specialty

    Walk in clinic?
  20. CPNRE January 2016

Got my results and.....................I PASSED! Now to do this Jurisprudence exam.
  21. RPN to BScN Bridging in Ontario: My Experience

For people with a GPA that isn't high enough to get into the competitive programs, what would you recommend to do? I was thinking about Athabasca but just found out about the blended program at Nipissing University. The only bad thing is that it tak...
  22. New Grad in Toronto Cannot find job

Would they look down on you if you try to get a volunteer position at the hospital?
  23. Staying Well Fed: with no breaks..

I go out and buy fast food on my breaks. Not the greatest choice but at least I'm getting my calories and protein. Couldn't you just pack a few meals and put them in the staff lounge?
  24. Job Search

I think it comes down to connections too. Applying online when there's probably hundreds of other applicants seems like such a waste of time.
  25. New Graduate No Jobs

I'm a student doing my consolidation at a hospital and I have access to the internal job postings.
