What did you miss the most while allnurses was "closed"?

Oh no! Never say the "Q" word in nursing. That's when all hell breaks loose...

I'm a CNA, will I lose my license?

I'm curious... Who took care of your patients the hour plus you went missing? In the future when you are sick, notify the proper higher ups and get the okay to leave before you go home.

    Loud Cartoons for Elderly Patients

This is simple. It started to happen after that resident passed away? It's him...

Sick and tired of wiping butts...HELLP

How about something along the lines of Radiology, Ctscan, X-ray tech? Or maybe a Respiratory Therapist?

    Old nurse won't retire

Gee. And here I thought it was only my hospital that this went on in! Lol. :)

Burnout as a CNA and the impact on nursing

Don't let this discourage you from nursing. Use it as motivation that you will not be that type of nurse. Plus being an aide versus a nurse are very different from one another. Try and stay positive, ask for help when you need it, and keep moving for...

    C.Diff Waste on Floor?

The no gloves and lack of handwashing bothers me more than the trash bags. After all, the trash is just sitting there. Those unwashed/ungloved hands are going from room to room. Patient to patient. Coworker to coworker...

Newly Promoted CNA Lead -- Seeking Advice/Suggestions

Why did they chose someone who has only been there for 3 months as the lead CNA?

    Peer feedback

This. Plus don't forget about your aides! HELPING them when they stressed. Nothing upsets me more than when I have 16-30 patients and all the nurses are chilling in the break room. Meanwhile calls bells and alarms are going off while I'm in the middl...

CNAs sleeping on the job... What can I do as a new nurse?

Have management address it first in a group meeting, but tell them you don't want the CNA's knowing the complaints came from you. Then when they are sleeping, wake them up and say, "You fell asleep, I am waking you up so you don't get in trouble." Th...
  13. You need to get an admin to edit this post for you. Besides the nursing home's name, you also put the DON's name. That combined with your user name and the specific details of your post is risky. Plus you even have the exact time of the incident. As ...
  14. I hope I don't find the patient "finger painting" in bed. (At least the stool softeners finally kicked in!)

    "I am a nurse!"

My fav are the ones who are a CNA, home health care aide, or Animal Vet Tech. They say they are "nurses," contradict everything, watch every move staff makes like a hawk, and dictate how things should be done.

I need an experts opinions please !!

Meanwhile, if they had a patient that spoke only your language, you'd be the first person they would call in to help them translate. How many languages do they speak? Probably only English. Maybe some "Spanglish" if they are lucky...

    Rolling out bedside report

In response to the pizza: If I want pizza, I'll buy it myself. The problem with pizza/food incentives is there are several shifts. By the time nights rolls around at 11, all we get is half eaten leftovers. They are vultures in my unit. Some even take...

    Rolling out bedside report

No scripts! Nurses are already jacks of all trades. Let's not add being actors/actresses to the list. The absolute way to GET resistance is adding a script. It has never worked at my hospital.

    can confused pts refuse meds?

The resident isn't the one in the room who could potentially get hurt, now is she? It's easy to dictate how things should be done from afar.

    Who cleans the poo?

So not only are you now cleaning up the patient, but you are also cleaning up the room as well. Amazing.

    Who cleans the poo?

You're gonna like this.. The nurses or aides have to separate the trash into another bag! That way each bag gets some of the weight. Meanwhile, the reason the trash is overflowing is due to the fact that Housekeeping has been sleeping all night, or ...

    Who cleans the poo?

Yup. It's the same at my unionized job. The bulk of any bodily fluids must be cleaned up prior, otherwise Housekeeping won't touch it. We also can't throw any soiled bedpans/commode buckets/etc into the trash. Pretty much a bedpan needs to be clean ...

3 nursing jobs in 2 years. Unhirable?

Alright, this thread has gone on long enough. At this point everyone has given sound advice. It took a lot of your time to respond to this thread, and all the other threads you've posted. Maybe now it would be more beneficial to use your spare time ...

Do CNAS HAVE TO DRAW BLOOD?

In NY CNA's can draw blood if certified. This varies of course, by each job.

And we were having such a nice day, too...

The "Q" word is as real as sundowners, and full moons.
