My wife and I have dreams of moving to Colorado. We love it up there! We are still a ways off from being able to do it, but we like to plan our family's future out in advance as much as we can. We have 4 children so understanding the pay there is impo...

I graduated last May and went to work on a very busy critical care/telemetry floor. For the most part I loved my job, but when I came home excited about a shift, I found myself most excited about the patient teaching and the connection I made with my...
Any new grad nurses starting positions in DFW area, residencies or regular full-time positions... Can you tell us what your base pay will be/is? What about shift diff? My wife and I are considering relocating to DFW, her as an experienced RN and myse...

This type of thing is happening all over America. We are better than this. We take care of each other better than this. Don't we? Maybe we used to. Health care is not ONLY a human right..it is a wise business decision that makes our citizens and thu...

Please tell me how extending the right to "achieve" a standard of living, particularly health care..is an acceptable alternative to extending the standard itself? Say to an ill infant? You are going to give a sick infant the "right to achieve" a stan...
Today was day one of my BSN program. I have worked for years to get here. I am excited to actually feel like I am "becoming a nurse" finally. But WHOA...the quantity of scheduling info and syllabi and just the MASSIVE amount of details was pretty int...
I was nervous last week before my first day. I found that almost EVERYONE was feeling the same way. You could just see it in our eyes lol. Hang in there, focus on what it took to get to this point and know that you EARNED that seat you are going to b...
I started Sept 27th...I am a little overwhelmed and definitley excited and nervous at the same time! Good luck to everyone this semester! I have first skills lab/check-off tomorrow am....anddddd I cant sleep!! lol
I'm relatively private, however...I dont mind sharing a little info about my circumstances because it may help a fellow student nurse. Even if they have different scenario from myself, my experiences vs. theirs may actually create a cumulutaive body ...

I've read a lot of things talking about how male nurses get the whole "why didn't you go to med school?" question regularly. Well within the nursing community I am seeing another question presented. An instructor asked me about my plans after I fini...

The market for new grads is tough in the larger cities in TX, but especially for ADNs. Experienced nurses are still being hired all over, w/ preferential hiring toward BSNs. Any of the major hospitals in the Austin greater area would be great. Also, ...

Thank you for that info. I am definitely looking at being active in SNA, and I currently volunteer at the local Medical Care Mission (in a non-healthcare related capacity, just office help). I will be trying to find additional opportunities for volun...

I was wondering where some of you went to school, and what advice you would offer me to make myself a good candidate for this residency in 2014. I will graduate with my BSN in May 2014, and my dream is to find a spot in CO. I attend a small private u...
I dont have a ton of reliable info on Houston, but in TX..generally speaking overall..it is relatively new grad friendly, especially for BSNs. Ive seen 2012 May grads getting anything from 21-26 an hour in Houston area. Sorry I dont have anything mor...
Wow - I needed this. Awesome to read your story and then watch the video...very touching. I like to think my Grandmother who passed a couple years ago would be pretty proud of me for going into nursing as well. She spent a long time at the end of her...
I worry about this myself. I am 6ft tall and also a big guy. (Ok I am still 50lbs overweight and working on it..don't be mean or I will have to go eat my feelings lol kidding) Anyway yeah I always worry that people will thin, who is this big guy comi...
My wife is a new RN, and I am 31 and starting the last 2 years of my BSN at nursing school. I have not encountered anything but positive reactions regarding being a man, and a career-changer.
The internships and residencies do account for a couple i have seen, but the ones i looked at were all looking for BSN degree holders. However, I saw 20-30 positions not requiring experience posted at various facilities throughout the area.
Thanks for the link. I want to point out though, that even if merely half of the postings were all that were "legitimate" opening, there is still a respectable number of jobs in DFW for new grads. I think the folks having a rough time finding a posit...
