  1. Is it all going to DNP?

I'm in an ADN program now. I've thought about becoming an FNP after my undergrad. education. Is it true that, instead of getting an MSN - all schools are going over to the DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice)? I hope not, but, if that's the only route, t...
  2. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

    1. It's not my idea. It's predicated on the theory of permanent revolution founded by Trotsky and the establishment of the ICFI in 1938. 2. To paraphrase Trotsky - the revolution begins on the national arena - it unfolds on the international arena a...
  3. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

It's a complicated question because each attempt took place under certain and varying objective conditions. Russia for example was a thoroughly backward country. This dynamic set the stage for Stalin and Bukharin's eventual capitulation to the theory...
  4. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

My conception of socialism is not idealist - but grounded in objective reality and informed by the materialist conception of history. The theory of utopian socialism (which actually postulated that communes and moral arguments were the road to social...
  5. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

Communism has never been implemented on this planet - so I fail to see how you could say that "it doesn't work". I'm fine where I am. In the future, keep your comments on where you think I should live to yourself. North Korea is not a Communist cou...
  6. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

Again, education should be free. And it can be as well if society were founded on a socio-economic system that put need over profit. The world is in an advanced state of imperialist (which is capitalist in an international expression) decay. The on...
  7. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

I agree with the OP's position that student loan debt should be forgiven but, I don't think signing petitions is going to accomplish anything. Workers, students and the poor need to look beyond the confines of government and pursue their own interest...
  8. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

Don't be fooled, there is actually more than enough money to guarantee K-Phd education for anyone who wants it and has the intelligence to pursue it. This can be accomplished through the expropriation of the big banks and transfer of the transnation...
  9. Petition to forgive student loan debt!

    Education should be free.
  10. HELP...I don't feel like I'm retaining any information...

Take frequent breaks. If I were you I would read for 30 minutes - then take a five-ten minute break. Use your break to do some deep breathing - or whatever it is that helps you relax. I also agree with drawing - it helps me.
  11. Nursing School Not For Me

It sounds like you are doing the right thing if the thought of nursing makes you that unhappy. I don't think you wasted three years of your life either. Those pre-reqs will count toward something. Keep your chin up.
  12. Second Career Nurses

It's not bad if you are single. I think it takes the right temperment too. I wouldn't recommend it if you are in a committed relationship.
  13. What is your "NS new year's resolution"?

I don't make resolutions. I understand why some folks do - they can be really motivating for some. I just try to keep a good balance. 90 percent study/lecture/clinicals - 10 percent everything else. ;-)
  14. Time to get real -

Maybe. I really don't know the details regarding how current standards were instituted regarding FNP minimum competency and education. If nurses collectively advocated for more control over their profession - and attempted to consolidate power democr...
  15. Time to get real -

None of us here (as far as I know) make the rules regarding how long a nurse has to be on the floor until s/he can become an NP. I think it depends on the academic institution. For example, there are a few near me that require two years at least part...
  16. Time to get real -

I agree with NurseLoveJoy88 (except for the part where she says that those sorts of OP's probably wish they could be NP's - I don't know what they wish - and I don't care either). Personally, my plan is to be an FNP. Right now I'm an ADN student and...
  17. Working as a CNA and Nursing School

It's doable, but, to be completely honest I would try to work as little as possible. Working as a CNA in a nursing home can be incredibly stressful. You have to balance what you want with what you need (i.e. your desire to become a nurse vs. your nee...
  18. Second Career Nurses

Yep, it can be intimidating at first, but once you get into the swing and find your stride I bet you'll do fine.
  19. Second Career Nurses

I drove a tractor-trailer over the road. I've been everywhere. I always hated the work, but I had to do something to make ends meet. A few years ago I took the plunge, quit - got my CNA license and got a job at a nursing home. I decided I could tole...
  20. How to make ends meet during nursing school?

Very solid advice. We cancelled our cable as well and I don't even have a cell anymore.
  21. How to make ends meet during nursing school?

That's a challenge and a question that millions of Americans are asking right now due to the horrid economy. On a purely subjective level, it will require very strict budgeting on your part. I rely on financial aide (mostly) and when I receive my re...
  22. Is it all going to DNP?

    Agreed.
  23. Took a semester off...now I'm in a panic!

Think of it this way - you know that you like L&D. So, when you graduate you already have a good fit. You can do it. I bet when you jump back into things it will all come back to you. Don't worry so much, you'll be fine.
  24. Who is worried about their first test?

Me. My first test is 9/13. I guess all we can do is study hard and hope for the best, the rest is out of our hands.
  25. Nightmare about failing...

I don't believe in superstitions, but if it makes you feel any better my mother used to tell me that if we have a bad dream and then tell someone about it, it won't come to pass. Dreams are little more than our subconscious mind working out our the ...
