  1. Yes, my concern is that it's very vague, and could apply to all the nursing homes and hospitals in my area. I understand them not wanting me to poach current clients or staff, but the 1 year part really bothers me.
  2. I'm being asked to sign a non-solicitation agreement as a condition of employment from a company that offered me a job. This agreement would last 1 year after my employment ended. I've never been asked to sign one before and I'm concerned about the possible implications if I do leave this company. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!
  3. Oh honey - I'm sure you'll pass if you haven't already. I had to take a similar test with experience as a nurse but zero experience with computers prior to my first Epic analyst job. I'm sure with your experience you will nail it! Please update us when you have a chance :)
  4. This just showed up as a memory on FB. I had to re-share because it's still one of the best explanations of a career in nursing that I've ever read!
  5. "Pleasantly confused"
  6. In Florida there is an OBGYN named Richard Stiff. For some odd reason he goes by Dr. R. Douglas Stiff. In my city, we have an OBGYN named Dr. Yeast. It's pronounced YEAHst or something like that, but really? Change your name or choose a different specialty!!!
  7. What happens when the home health pt codes and it's just you and your black bag? No code team, No doctors, No experienced nurses around to help. Sure, you could call 911, but while waiting for the ambulance you'd better be performing CPR...
  8. If the pt is getting comfort measures only, he should not be on a rehab unit. Rehab pts are expected to do 3+ hours of PT/OT per day. If the pt cannot tolerate this or is not making progress they are not appropriate for rehab. Surely the family is aware of that To the OP: Run. Run far, far away. Those are really unsafe staffing levels. The facility is setting you up for failure. They only care about their bottom line; not your health, sanity, or nursing license. While you may feel a sense of accomplishment by "handling" this pt load, you're not doing anyone any favors - especially your pts!
  9. Please include a section on grilling the fresh meat. New nurses covered in BBQ sauce...yum!
  10. After a long week of dealing with worthless nursing students, my thought process was somewhere along the line of: Nurses eat their young + horror + fomites = Silence of the Lambs
  11. It puts the lotion on It's skin, or It gets the hose again
  12. Thank you for finally giving me some motivation and inspiration for my avatar!
  13. I often joke that I carry a magic wand that solves problems and takes care of pt's symptoms. Today, I actually said: "My magic wand can fix a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them."
  14. I used to LOVE people. I was a real "people person." Then I became I nurse. Now, I avoid people as much as possible.
  15. "Of COURSE you're the Easter Bunny! I just called you Brian by mistake."
  16. Did Ms. Manners ever write a book? If so, we need to send one to that RN STAT!
  17. My guess is the prelimary test for Hep C is positive, but they don't have the confirmatory test back yet? His EIA could be a false positive d/t the other issues he has with his liver. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!!
  18. Kinda feel like the ANA should sue him for libel if he does not post a correction and apology. Also find it interesting that the name of the facility is not mentioned...hmmmm...
  19. nursel56 - Yo Mama so fat even Richard Simmons can't help but laugh!
  20. Is it still considered self-medicating if it benefits others?
  21. wooh, you're so mean!!!
  22. Know how to tell the difference between nurses and RTs? Put both in a room and fill it to chin level with poop and then hawk a big loogie at them. The RTs stay standing and the nurses duck.
  23. You know what else makes me absolutely crazy? People who misuse to, two, and too. Or through and threw. The list goes on and on. I understand the occasional typo - I'm guilty of that myself - but I remember these sound alike words being drilled into my head in elementary school. Does it really require that much thought to use the right word?
  24. Just a couple of points here. 1) Hospice does not perform euthanasia on it's patients. Actually, I routinely start my pts on abx and appetite stimulants. There is no reason to try to speed up the process. The truth is the hospice will make more money the longer the pt lives. I routinely give "massive" doses of morphine. When I worked neuro ICU, the standard pain med order was 1-4mg IV morphine every 4 hours. I now routinely give 20mg SL an hour and even have gone as high as 40mg an hour to control pain. Why? Because the patient needed. Believe it or not, but that amount of morphine isn't even close to being lethal. Hospice s not in the business of killing people. I'll go ahead and step off my soapbox now... 2) In the US, we are supposed to have separation of church and state. Therefore, the government shouldn't restrict and medical procedure based upon personal religious beliefs. 3) In birth control news, Rick Santorum's largest financial backer believes women should just keep their legs closed rather than take the pill. I feel like I'm living in the 1950's: Santorum Backer: Most Cost-Effective Birth Control? Keep Your Legs Closed - Forbes
