  1. I have hear of 21st but do not work for them. My agency is relatively small, we are a close knit group :)
  2. The problem with alarms is that they don't always align with eating. Medicare does pay long term if the pt is unable to draw up or administer reliably his/her own insulin and there is no willing/able caregiver available. It has to be documented on ev...
  3. Idk if there are any rules, perhaps there are guidelines through ANCC for certified case managers but I am not sure. I can say that at my last job I carried 40-45 patients on my caseload and saw them all for all oasis visits plus the less stable ones...
  4. 60 day summary & home health aide services!

I consider them the same. If I write a d/c summary upon d/c I do not write a 60 day summary. The D/c summary replace it.
  5. It sounds like he needs to be a daily insulin pt if he and/or his family cannot consistently give him the shots. He clearly is not able to pull up the insulin on his own and forgets with the prefilled syringes. If he doesn't have children or church f...
  6. Kindly answer me any surgical nurse please...

I would finish the dressing. It is not worth leaving a sterile dressing change open to air while seeing what another pt needs. That pt could end up with an infx. I would also reply that it is important to hourly round on all my pts so that they have ...
  7. Cant decide if should start out as LPN or go RN?

I did OU's RN to BSN and was in class with several LPN's that were getting their BSN's as well, bypassing the traditional route of LPN to ADN to BSN. since you have to be an LPN for a year before starting OU's program idk of its a benefit or not... F...
  8. What was your experience in school?

I earned an A.S. in diversified studies while working on my prereqs for my ADN program. So when I started nursing school full time all I had to focus on (school wise) was school. That said, I also was married with two children and worked full time. I...
  9. How physical is home health?

You may want to consider desk case management in home health. It isn't bad on the back (as long as sitting doesn't bother you).
  10. On Call and Weekend requirements

That is not enough pay for on call. I am paid a base salary and my on call pay is in addition to the salary. $150.00/weekend to be on call and $65-$85/visit for resumption/recert/SOC. I would look elsewhere especially since you are the bread winner. ...
  11. I have been a field nurse case manager, a case manager that did all OASIS visits and had an assigned LPN conduct all regular SNV's, and an in-office case manager (with no hands on pt care), with the latter being my current role. The pay I received wh...
  12. Old Nursing Books

I saved mine from my BSN program because I didn't save them from my ADN program and wished I had... I have referenced the ones I saved. Congrats on becoming a nurse!!!
  13. New nurse in PACU??

I was a nurse 6 months when hired in PACU. Maybe it depends on the facility but our recovery room nurses are AMAZING! I have learned so much from them, and the anesthesiologists, and the CRNA's... Being in one large room is good for multiple reasons ...
  14. Need reassurance

If mom lifts him, why not ask her to help you do a two person transfer?
  15. Would you ever own a motorcycle? YES or NO?

We are about to buy a trike!! SUPER excited!!!!!
  16. Why Dogs Make the Best Friends

I have two dogs, a Lhasa Apso and a Shih Tzu. My boys make coming home from work a joy! I work in home health full time and peds PACU part time.
  17. Yes I have had a med error. Thankfully it did not harm the patient. I work in peds and gave 10X less of a med than I should have. It sticks with me to this day. I am so thankful it was 10X less instead of 10X more!
  18. There is one other kind of nurse... The one who makes mistakes and then covers it up.
  19. Current New Grad Pay in Tulsa area and OKC

I started at Children's Hospital in OKC as a new grad with a starting wage of 19.15/hr. Within 7 months of hire I was up to 20.81/hr.
  20. Apartment Hunting-OKC

Congrats on the new job! I work at OU Children's Hospital in the same complex. Living near the hospital is not a good idea if you are looking for safety... I live about 4 miles away in a historic neighborhood and we are surrounded by "zombies" that ...
  21. Odd SOC

Sounds to me like an APS referral is in place...
  22. Associates v. Bachelors - goal to work in skincare

I would probably lean toward an ADN. That way you have the licensure but not quite so much time in school. Plus if you decide you would like to earn your BSN you can always do an RN to BSN program.
  23. I think I would have called APS the same day. I agree with you that they could have done no more on that day but it covers your hiney and your agency's hiney. And lets face it, the woman really needs some help here.
  24. I am not a PICU nurse but a PACU nurse. I work at a teaching hospital so many times the doc writing the orders is a resident. Many times residents tend to overreact in where to place the pt. Because the pt will be watched so closely in PICU they like...
  25. Average Salary for ADN vs BSN

I earned my BSN while working at my hospital one year after becoming an RN. No raises came my way at all. At my facility, an RN is an RN.
