  1. No Narc count????

I would definitely do the count. I worked with a nurse that we all just "trusted" and we found out much later that he was stealing narcotics. He seemed to have it together but it was all a show. Thankfully, he was not stealing in a way that threaten...
  2. This is a nurse message board. If someone looks up ostomy and comes to a nursing site, they will get a true nurse's experience. Many of the nurses included empathy in their post such as the nurse who changed her husband's ostomy and the colo rectal c...
  3. first admission all the time

I agree that you should talk to her. Also, are you able to be charge nurse? I'd ask to be allowed to be charge nurse sometimes. When you also have charge power, suddenly your assignments get a lot more reasonable.
  4. Duties of The Floor Nurse.....

As crazy as it sounds, all that dusting probably did a lot to keep out the bugs and dust since they didn't have modern cleansers.
  5. Serious scope of practice concern

    I'd contact the board.
  6. How to be faster/more efficient?

Wow. Good luck to you! I am a floor nurse so I don't have that much work, thank goodness. However, I think you may have answered your own question. Apologize but tell your patients that to keep everyone safe you and happy you have to stick to stic...
  7. Is a baby nurse..

The L&D nurses say "baby nurse" at my hospital. It's a large academic medical center.
  8. Night Shifters!

We get $10 shift diff for weekend. $3 after 3pm. I didn't realize our shift dif was so much better than some other places.
  9. Doing a favor vs. being an RN

I think the prior posts covered most issues well. However, you also have to be concerned about your medical mal practice insurance. If you don't not have your own med mal insurance, you are relying on your facility's insurance. However, if you're wo...
  10. I work Med Surge. You'll learn to hold some patients at a distance and only let a few in to the depths of your heart at a time. Crying is not shameful. It's the only grace-filled response to such a broken, dark world.
  11. Concerns about 'modeling' pictures

Wow. Interesting question for sure. I doubt it would be problematic if it doesn't have her real name. Besides, admitting that you recognize her is a public admission that you look at internet porn, so I doubt the interviewer would mention it. Add t...
  12. Report Sheet Samples

There are free report sheets here: http://wp.me/PDtM3-47
  13. Frequent Broviac Infections - eek!

Maybe they could place a port. or use a Biopatch or other chlorhexidine impregnated dressing. The biopatch costs money but many studies prove that it saves money by preventing infection / hospitalization
  14. Are you a "Bonified" Nurse?

I like uniforms. Nurses wear light blue at my hospital. Supposedly this was supposed to distinguish us from the rest of staff. But the physical therapists, physical therapists techs, and some physicians wear the exact same color blue. I think it ...
  15. Foley to LIS???

What did the Risk manager cite as the problem? The fact that the order was unclear or that the procedure itself wasn't safe?
  16. ?? Schools in NC do have waitlists. Durham tech for example.
  17. Choosing a second bachelor's degree

Spanish! It is super useful. And will give you more of an edge in job applications than psychology (IMHO). The nurse managers will practically salivate over you. :redbeathe [P.S. All, please do NOT reply to this post saying patients should learn ...
  18. Pregnant nursing student! What do I do?

Congrats! Definitely let them know. Other posters mentioned some things to stay away from... I'd also be sure to avoid X-rays. And pay attention to which meds say "hazardous" as the hazard is often for pregnant women. DEFINITELY wear gloves when ...
  19. From Business Degrees to Nursing

I would not worry about getting patient care experience at this point. You'll have loads of it in the future. I'd get a job with the best pay and most flexible hours that you won't hate.
  20. so.... what would YOU say?

I'd make a joke to point it out like... "Hmmm... I wonder this RN on my badge stands for. Is it not "real nurse?" or "If you're a real nurse, does that make me a pretend nurse?"
  21. If you have a question, ASK! Better to find out now then wait another two years and have someone discover you can't do a basic task or answer a question because you never asked. As a floor nurse, you are always coming across different diseases becau...
  22. Best way to deal with unsafe staffing, what form?

I live in a state without unions. I have never heard of this. Do state hospitals have anything like this? I suppose I could fill out an incident report for risk management but it's such a common situation that I have never thought to do it.
  23. Will this route negativly affect me.

I would locate a CRNA program in your area and talk to their admissions people. Getting into CRNA school is hard. If that's what you definitely want to to do, be sure you have all the facts before you get too far along.
  24. Im not sure if I could be a nurse..?

    What's a pca?
  25. At our facility, housekeeping won't clean up bodily floods. I find it really annoying. At burger king, if there is vomit on the table or poo in the toilet or pee on the floor, housekeepers clean it up. So I think it's silly that housekeeping won't ...
