  1. BCTC vs. UK CNA Class

Hey all - I'm currently signed up to take BCTC's CNA class in the fall but I know that UK offers one as well. It's more expensive but it includes BLS which BCTC does not. I'm already planning on taking a CPR for healthcare providers through red cr...
  2. Moving to Lexington..Nursing schools?

The second degree program at UK is NOT accellerated. It takes 2.5 years to complete. If you want an accelerated program look at EKU, U of L, NKU, or Bellarmine.
  3. What do you think? Bellarmine, chances at EKU

If you're going to do the UK program - have you thought about their second degree option? It's not accelerated so you would still have more time to spend with your girls. I'm in the ABSN at EKU right now and I'm also in Lexington and I'm struggling...
  4. eku nursing

Congrats CestLaVie! Where are you right now for clinical?
  5. How much?

Hi - I'm planning on working as a PCT part time while I am in nursing school and was wondering what the average hourly wage is? I know that it won't be astronomical, but I'm trying to get a good idea of where to set my expectations and how much I mi...
  6. eku nursing

Yes, you have to take BIO 137 and 139 though. There is a lecture and a lab component for both of them. Shirley Whitescarver is the best. Hands down. I love her. There are separate classes you can take but I'm pretty sure that EKU needs you to hav...
  7. eku nursing

I don't know how much they weigh them against each other if that is what you're asking. If you are apply for the 2nd degree you have to have all of the pre-reqs done before you start the program and I'm pretty sure that they only enroll in the fall....
  8. ADN vs. BSN

I'm going back for an accelerated second bachelor's in nursing. I've been hearing a lot about how there is no difference in pay for ADN vs. BSN since they are both licensed RNs. I don't much care about a pay difference, but for me, I can get a BSN ...
  9. HawthoRNe

I've been watching Hawthorne from the beginning and it's good. I preferred Mercy only because the acting was 1000x better. I'm not a nurse yet, but I feel like the roles in Hawthorne may be more accurate. But, I could be way off base.
  10. BCTC vs. UK CNA Class

That's great since I haven't been able to find an AHA offering within an hour of me in the time that I need it completed. Grrrrrrr... But that's another issue for another day. Red Cross is good enough for my program and I need to complete that befor...
  11. Why I have chosen nursing as a career

I am also leaving the job market to pursue a nursing career. I'm anxious as the time approaches for me to start my clinical as I have no hospital or patient experience. I've been scared of a lot of things since I was a kid, but as I've evaluated my...
  12. Moving to Lexington..Nursing schools?

Just FYI - UK's BSN program is NOT accelerated. I was deciding between UK and EKU and that was really the dividing line for me. EKU is much cheaper, and even though I will be driving from Lexington, it's not very far. Especially when you take into...
  13. BLS vs. CPR/AED??

I'm enrolled in a Red Cross CPR for healthcare professionals class for my nursing program. The cert. is good for two years and it costs $80. The AHA BLS for healthcare professionals isn't as readily offered in my area. Our program will take any CP...
  14. BCTC vs. UK CNA Class

Thanks for your input so far. I think I'm going to stick with BCTC. I was just wondering if there is a fundamental difference between the BLS offered at UK and the CPR for healthcare providers that I'm signed up for with the Red Cross. I'm sure ther...
  15. How To Survive (and Thrive) In Nursing School

This is so great!! I was admitted to an accelerated BSN program to start this August and I could not be more excited/terrified. I'm always looking for tip sheets so this is fantastic. Thank you so much!
  16. Grace and Love

This is a very nice post. It reminds me of the way my maternal grandmother just passed. She was in the ICU and not LTC, but in the end she knew something we didn't. She knew that it was time for her to stop suffering. Luckily we were all able to ...
  17. Calling all EKU BSN or ABSN students

WOW! Thank you so much for your response! It was all I could have asked for and more. I'm just so nervous about starting that I'm trying to be all OCD and being as prepared as possible. I hope things are going well for you over at UK - maybe we'l...
  18. ADN vs. BSN

!! I didn't mean to bring up such a sore subject! I am already enrolled in a BSN program so that's not an issue, I just didn't know if it made a difference to employers, just out of curiosities sake. ...I'll search my question more thoroughly nex...
  19. Calling all EKU BSN or ABSN students

I'm a future current student, meaning I'll start in the fall. So far, after meeting a lot of the faculty I'm very pleased with my decision to go with their ABSN. For some reason this program has always felt like a great fit for me, and I like the s...
  20. BCTC Nursing Fall 2011

I took my pre-reqs at BCTC main campus and had a generally great experience. Dr. Shirley Whitescarver is the best. Ever. I met the little woman who is in charge of the nursing program at Lawrenceberg. It was raining and she didn't have an umbrell...
  21. We have a grey polo with maroon scrub bottoms, white shoes and white socks. If we get a jacket I think it has to be maroon, too.
  22. Help understanding statistics

p is the probability of obtaining a statistic assuming that the null hypothesis is true, but not the probability of the null hypothesis being true. That always confused me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-value I'll try to find my stat notes from las...
  23. WOW! The public really doesn't like us, huh?

I'm not a nurse yet, but I was inspired to become one based on the nurses I've encountered over the years. Not only from my hospital experiences, but those of my family as well, especially my grandmother. I know that when you're in pain you think t...
  24. Should I go Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in KY?

I think the only PA program in the state is at UK, and like mentioned earlier it requires much more intense pre-requisites. My primary care is done by a PA, and she went to UK and she's great. There are more NP programs in the state as far as I kno...
  25. Taking CNA class now...when to apply for job?

As a fellow student, I know what you're going through. I was planning to take a CNA class this summer but it ended up not working out so I cannot take it until the fall when I will already be in nursing school. I am still going to try to get some p...
