  1. Youtube!

Educators, I find it increasingly disturbing that so many nursing students are turning to Youtube now to learn nursing concepts. Kudos to the nurses who leveraged the platform, but neither Sara, Jon or Mike (the most popular hosts) are Masters p...
  2. What Is Wrong with These Students?

Oh my. First, no where did I ever write or imply what you just typed. Do not imply I did; so let's be 100% clear on that. Despite this angry post about our profession and infectious disease, please be assured that FLEXIBILITY, is without questio...
  3. What Is Wrong with These Students?

Flexibility is a life skill that will be very beneficial as you begin your practice. GOOD LUCK!
  4. Tutoring on the side?

They are getting their nursing education from Youtube these days. It's a shame.
  5. starting legal nursing

I am not sure if you ever did this? However, your OR experience is very niche, BUT very valuable. I am wondering what you did, because you are in a unique position to subcontract out your specific expertise to LCLs!
  6. What to charge for chart review/opinion?

    THANK YOU! Much appreciated!
  7. What Is Wrong with These Students?

I really liked your comment, and wonder how you feel about what I call, "clinical care RNs," and not "bedside" RNs, making BANK these days! Finally after pushing them beyond burnout, beyond mass exodus, and beyond PTSD - finally, their worth is getti...
  8. What Is Wrong with These Students?

It's been a minute- what a year, or should I say 2?! ugh - Anyway, how are you doing now?
  9. What to charge for chart review/opinion?

Can you tell me what your retainer states? That they will pay that minimum no matter what? I am unsure of how to structure this. THANK YOU!
  10. I think you have a responsibility to look at your own data too. For example, if a high percentage of your fails are from the same tenured professor's course, then that needs to be evaluated with due diligence. Please keep in mind, we are educat...
  11. Has anyone tried ‘Legal Nurses Rock’ LNC program?

Hello- I am not sure what the One hour workshop is? Someone emailed me with a quote of $4900. There was no pdf or breakdown of what would be included with that. I am really leary of that amount. Thank you for more info!
  12. What Is Wrong with These Students?

I like to see them think. I like to see them imagine and want to understand. I truly enjoy listening to them think outloud. I can see where their thoughts are developing, and redirect that thinking in real time. I make a big deal when someone "gets ...
  13. What Is Wrong with These Students?

Remind them of the value you bring. Explain concepts in easy terms, then in depth. Make them WANT to learn your craft. Have them verbalize what they learned today what they did not know yesterday, and point out that value. Be the educator you NEEDED....
  14. What Is Wrong with These Students?

I have no issues with my students. I make my expectations clear and challenge them. I let them challenge me. I remind them how they are getting their money's worth as we summarize what they have leaned with each interaction.
  15. What Is Wrong with These Students?

Once again with the millennials. You're educating gen Z now. The millennials have kids in middle school already.
  16. Rude doctors

    1. attempt to discuss behaviors directly and be prepared to use examples and the words "unacceptable" and "unprofessional." 2. Follow through that day with consistent assertiveness. Try to note witnesses. Say, " I believed we spoke about things like ...
  17. New Grad ER RN - Help

Your poreceptor is a bully. Plain and simple. CONFRONT her with EXAMPLES and be clear what she shouldn't be doing. Say: "You can probably start that IV quicker, but I am going to do it now. DO NOT touch me. THANK YOU." You MUST confront. It is the ON...
  18. ED Educator

First, you need to be certain everyone's (ALL staff) certs are utd. Make sure there is an excel file - bls, acls, pals, cen, tncc, atcc, encp etc. Then you want to be sure everyone has their annual/mandatory education conpleted (EMTALA, HIPAA etc). W...
  19. Does the level of trauma center matter?

If given the choice for a level 2 or a level 4, I would pick the 2. A level 4 would bore the hell out of me - but, that's me.
  20. Assualted by psych patient

    File a report.
  21. Do you calculate drip rates anymore?

Do you count drams and minims still too? Just because you've done it like that for 60 years doesn't mean it's best practice now. No pumps? Write an incident report and report it to TJC.
  22. Do you calculate drip rates anymore?

No pump? dont infuse. Period. Call your manger or supervisor. Hand counting drops is in itself a Med error by default. Leave that roller clamp alone- and boom- your med rate is already askew. Do you count your other meds like that??? or do you acc...
  23. Need help?

If you are looking for some help, I tutor students via face time. Just an FYI. Email - [email protected] T
  24. BSN is a joke

I am so sorry you think educating yourself above the level of a technician is a waste of your time. You must understand evidence. You must understand that nursing is a scholarly profession, worthy of people who can read and write a college level pape...
  25. Nursing responsibility for certain Lab test results

You aren't there to medically dx a uti. The pt will have dysuria. A med assistant can dip urine for results. Professional nursing practice encompasses much more. Alteration in comfort related to dysuria. Knowledge deficit related to the uti. Potent...
