  1. African American Care

Received an assignment today to report on African American health beliefs and practices as they relate to patient care. Anyone have any thoughts on resources or how to provide culturally competent care ? Thanks in advance for your help!
  2. UT Tyler RN to BSN Program

I've been doing some research about on-line RN-BSN programs and noticed Texas Tech has a program that is approximately $200 per semester hour, while UTTyler's is about $600 per semester hour. If this is correct, why go through UTTyler's MINE program...

  4. Moving to East Texas from Northern Nevada

Agree with Blessed2BaNRS on everything except the hospital description. I was offered at job at both hospitals but preferred ETMC. They are both good hospitals, but have different personalities. I just preferred the ETMC "personality" I guess.
  5. Good Specialty Area?

I started on a telemetry unit when I graduated, and I love it. I find there is enough repitition to gain some competency, but there is enough to keep it very challenging. Good place to start!

  7. Tyler Junior College not accredited!

Crimson, Congratulations on getting in! Buckle up! The program is fast and furious! If there's anything I can do to help, as an alumn, let me know.
  8. "I need you to pack my butt"

LOL. I have a friend who asked me to come change a dressing on her back while she was at work. We went into a back room, she disrobed, and I changed the dressing. We laughed about the sight of us and wondered what people would say if we got caught...
  9. Tyler Junior College not accredited!

I worked PRN as an EKG tech, then as a nurse tech. You could work PRN as a PCA. There is also a nurse tech program that you can take advantage of after your first semester of nursing school. There is definitely a shortage of PCA's, so I'm sure you c...
  10. Tyler Junior College not accredited!

The program at TJC is an associate's degree program. It is technically a 4 semester program. If you need prerequisites it takes a little longer. As far as the cost is concerned, if you're a Tyler resident, it costs approximately $1200 per semester t...
  11. Tyler Junior College not accredited!

Can validate Raelra's testimony. I recently graduated from TJC and plan to get my BSN at UT Tyler. I have found the classes I took will transfer w/o any problem, but I went into the program with an eye towards UT Tyler. I too would recommend you ver...
  12. Should I choose telemetry or step down floor

I faced the same choice and chose the stepdown unit. Very glad I did
  13. What the heck is a Netie pot?

Been using one for about 2 months -- after watching Oprah. Love it!!
  14. HELP With Med Math Problem

I know what you mean. That's how my mistakes are usually made.
  15. HELP With Med Math Problem

It's really a matter of just setting up the problem to get whatever units you want in the numerator and the denominator, then manipulate the information you have to get that result. I apologize for not being a very good tutor! Good luck on the quiz,...
  16. HELP With Med Math Problem

I stand by my work, thanks!
  17. HELP With Med Math Problem

    The way I learned it was to determine what you are looking for (in this case ml/hr), then set up your problem to find that result. ml/hr = 250 ml/50 mg X 6 mcg/kg/min X 1 mg/1000mcg X 72.4 kg/1 X 60 min/hr = 130 ml/hr I started with 250ml/50 mg beca...
  18. HELP With Med Math Problem

    Try again ml/hr = 250 ml/50 mg X 6 mcg/kg/min X 1 mg/1000mcg X 72.4 kg/1 X 60 min/hr = 130 ml/hr ml/hr = 50 ml/20min X 60 min/1hr = 150 ml/hr
  19. HELP With Med Math Problem

    First problem ml/hr = 250ml X 6 mcg X 1mg X 72.4 kg X 60 min = 130 ml 50mg kg/min 1000 mcg 1 1 hr hr Second problem ml/hr = 50ml X 60 min = 150 ml/hr 20 min 1 hr
  20. Fort Worth = Population Boomtown!

So what's so great about FW as a city to work as a nurse?
  21. Fort Worth = Population Boomtown!

    Sorry. I meant El Paso!
  22. Fort Worth = Population Boomtown!

Based on your survey, I should move to El Pase, which is the second safest city.
  23. Fort Worth = Population Boomtown!

didn't know it had gotten that bad there.
  24. Fort Worth = Population Boomtown!

So, other than Cowtown in growing, why would someone want to work as a nurse there?
  25. The American South? Or, the West?

As The Commuter has said, Texas is so big, each section has it's own feel. I grew up in El Paso and I would not consider it anything but Southwestern. I lived in Amarillo and it certainly had a midwestern feel. Lubbock, by the way, feels more west...
