Has anyone received any info in the mail yet regarding registration/uniforms/drug screening?

Fall 2011 Mercy School of Nursing Hopefuls...

I'm not a night/weekend applicant. I'm going into the regular daytime program, so I don't know anything about the night/weekend program. I do know that they accepted only about half the number of applicants they do most semesters, so I suppose that made the number of night/weekend applicants even smaller.

Fall 2011 Mercy School of Nursing Hopefuls...

Whoops! I'm so sorry about the misinformation about the prereq's and the waitlist. I suppose that's what I get for going on info I've read on this board instead of from MSON. Thank you for clarifying for everyone though! I am going into the regular daytime program.

@mamajjr, It's also my understanding that completing more prereq's can help you move up on the waitlist. If you are currently in any of the prereq's, I would definitely send that transcript in at the end of the semester. @medic2131, I know that it's a really tough call for you on the microbiology issue. If I were in your place, and this was my plan had I not gotten accepted for August, I would still continue on the path that you are on. I had decided that if I hadn't been accepted, I was still going to take microbiology this summer so that I could be even more competitive to apply for the next semester. It just all depends on how committed you are to MSON. I had all my eggs in this one basket, and I had no intention of going anywhere else, so I would have kept trying. And from what I've read, many people have been accepted on their second attempt. (And that's if you don't get called in the next couple of months.) You are ultimately just going to have to go with your gut instinct. Oh and by the way, I wouldn't hesitate to email admissions with your questions. That's what they are there for, and I KNOW that many waitlisted folks are dying for more answers.

I agree with techr2nurse....from what I have read, some people have been accepted with only a couple weeks left until class starts.....so be ready for anything! @techr2nurse, I laughed when I read your last post. It sounds like you are a lot like me.....mulling over hundreds of these old threads just to hold on to what little hope we can conjure up. Ahhhhh, what a relief that I don't have to do that to myself anymore. *wine

Thanks techr2nurse! It was definitely a nice surprise to receive our letters today and not on the last possible day. I suppose the quicker we get our forms and checks mailed in, the quicker we will get more info back from the school. I can't wait to meet everyone and get started!

CONGRATS!!! I got my letter today too and was accepted for Fall 2011! I'm so excited I can't stand myself! :anpom: @hdb397, I thought for sure they would have told you what waitlist number you are. I bet if you called them they could tell you. Good luck!

Mercy School of Nursing SUMMER 2011 hopefuls!

Poppy79, Are you in NC or PA? After reading another post of yours, I'm thinking we are talking about two different schools. There is a Mercy School of Nursing in both states, and Techr2nurse and I are in NC. Just want to clarify....thanks!

Fall 2011 Mercy School of Nursing Hopefuls...

It was my understanding that we would receive our letters between Feb 1st and 15th, so hopefully the 15th will be the absolute latest. I may have understood incorrectly though. I don't know if I can wait much longer. No problem with the questions, I don't mind sharing info at all. REA is the only thing I used to study. It is a wonderful book, and I had less than a month to prepare for it. The conversion table in the REA study guide says that my 68 would be the equivalent of a low A in the actual class. The score for the Human Growth & Development CLEP ranges from 20-80. Don't ask me about the logic behind this scoring system. Most schools, including Mercy, consider a 50 the minimum passing score. It is up to the school to decide what they accept as a passing score. I took the CLEP at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, as it is very close to me and where I currently attend. It is computer based though anywhere you choose to take it. If you go to the college board's website, they have a whole section on CLEP. You can search their database to find a place close to you where you can take it. Basically, you just call that school's testing department and schedule a date for the exam. It was really a whole lot less painful than I tought it would be. Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks NurseMercy! I don't think that's cheesy, but probably because I'm a little cheesy too. UPDATE ON CLEP: I passed the Human Growth & Development CLEP this morning with a 68! Now I'm concerned that the transcript might not make it to MSON by Feb 1st......

You're right, I suppose some semesters are more competitive than others. Unfortunately, You are the only other person I've ran across for Fall on this forum. I do know there were MANY people in the info session I attended in November, and based on the questions they were asking in front of everyone, again I was surprised and intimidated by the number of people that seemed to have all their ducks in a row. Hopefully, not all of them were applying for this Fall. In that info session, we were told that they will accept between 30-40 Fall students, and then another 30-40 will go on the wait list. I would prefer not to have the further torture of the wait list, but I suppose it's alot better than flat out decline. All I know right now is I'm driving my husband absolutely nuts waiting on this letter. I'm currently a student at Catawba Valley Community College, and that's where I'll be taking Micro this summer.

I will definitely let you know how the CLEP exam goes on Monday. I'm using the REA study guide, and it gets to the point and is a very easy read. It also has three 90 question practice tests in it. I have taken 2 of those so far (I'll take the last one tomorrow evening) and have "passed" both of those. As far as finding out if the BSN program you are looking at accepts CLEP....you should be able to either call and ask, check their website, or check the college boards website. The college board's site has a list of schools that accept CLEP if I remember correcty. I've been cramming for this exam for a month to be able to take it and get my score reported to Mercy by the Feb 1st deadline. I don't mind sharing (what I know off the top of my head) my grades at all. I too have read a lot of other people's info on these threads, and I have to say, I am intimidated. Never before have a encountered a group of people that are as motivated as I am. Please take that as a compliment. :) Let's see....If I leave anything out, let me know: TEAS 92% High School GPA 4.0 SAT score 1200 Exp. Writing A or B (Sadly it's been so long since I took it I can't remember right off & dont have a copy nearby) Intro to Soc. A A&P I A Total college GPA so far is 3.7 I'm currently in A&P II and will take Microbiology this summer. I do not have a degree of any kind....I'm one of those with about 50 credit hours of "I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up" over the last 8 years.

I'm also a Mercy applicant for Fall 2011. :uhoh21: I've been looking at this site for months now and freaking myself out. I'm taking the CLEP for Human Growth & Development on Monday (1/24) to try for some last minute points for admission. Plus, it will be the only prereq I have left, and I really don't want to be taking that while at Mercy. I honestly have all my eggs in one basket here.....
