    Wet-to-dry dressing question

i am only referring to wetting a dsg prior to removal, on a pink NON-necrotic wound bed. the current wtd dsg is now inappropriate, and was suggesting what to do until orders are updated.
  3. my mom never expressed any wishes whatsoever. the day after thanksgiving in 2004, she was dx'd w/aml, and her prognosis was very poor. she still opted for chemo, and became septic, lost consciousness...
  4. you still have to wonder, if the pt would want to be kept alive... via vents, art lines, pressors, and endless poking. my mom died on 12/19. 2 dr's were really pressuring us, to keep her alive (if...

    Wet-to-dry dressing question

why would one use wtd, when there isn't any dead tissue present? there's nothing that needs debriding... so if the order is still wtd, then the kindest thing you can do, is wet the darned dsg before...
  6. so, so avoidable. my prayers for this little girl and her family.

    Wet-to-dry dressing question

wtd is appropriate IF there is dead tissue/eschar that needs removing. and yes, rewetting prior to removal, to ensure it is painless.

    Wet-to-dry dressing question

it does sound like the dsg order needs to be updated, to reflect the pink, viable tissue now present. until the order is changed, i'd keep it a strictly wet dsg. soak w/ns, before removing.
  9. i agree...that it's understandable, and incredibly selfish. it certainly does not make for a peaceful, painless dying process.

    Passages Hospice

i just read their website. they're a member of the bbb of illinois, and haven't received any complaints. that seems to be a good sign. go check them out. they even have "dementia specialists" (cna's...

Pressing charges on a psych patient?

sniper, perhaps you'd feel better directing your angst at the one-and-only-poster, who suggested a chair to the head (even though he was using his warped humor....surprise! some of us (nurses) enjoy...

    Abusive patient

easy enough to get parameters from the dr. i would also advise a psych consult.

    Abusive patient

i appreciate you sharing your story, tink. until one has experienced scc, i'd seriously encourage all to withhold judgment. as with any excruciating pain, many people will want all the pain meds they...

*Easy* things I just hate doing

i used to hate doing neuro checks, until i caught a non-reactive pupil. after that, it made the tedium, more meaningful... unlike others, who just check off the boxes w/o actually assessing. (grrrr.)...

Advice for a new Hospice nurse :)

pretty much. you will get more used to it...don't know if you'll get totally used to it, though. i have no problems with doing care immediately after death. it's somewhat less pleasant, if the body...

A nurse that needs agnger management

the bolding (mine) is what scares the begeebeez out of me. for me, i would much rather have intelligence over mannerism, versus a warm smile over ineptness (or close to it.) anyways, i'm not saying...

how do we treat each other?

ocean, i agree w/your entire post but wanted to comment on the above. while privately talking with a coworker is the professional and considerate way to handle concerns, experience has taught me to...

A nurse that needs agnger management

even that, one can't judge. i know a nurse who wasn't a "people persons"... frankly, she was pretty disenchanted w/man in general. yet when it came to those at a disadvantage, she had a huge, HUGE...

    Concerned...allnurses store product

frankly, i'd be appalled to think that parents would put the burden on their kid... that if they see a pill bottle, it'll be up to you (the child) to make a right/wrong decision. what i'm trying to...

    Concerned...allnurses store product

kids may associate pill bottles with medicine... but have also learned that some 'medicine' tastes like candy. furthermore, since children are prohibited from using this site, there was nothing...

    Concerned...allnurses store product

THANK you. i think some things ARE foreseeable, and drugs and other tangible, dangerous items, ARE a no-brainer. while kids are curious and adventurous tykes, there are interventions we can take as...

    enemas and nurses

i'm thinking if the pt sustained a fx'd arm, r/t the aide's 'insistence', then it should be delegated to nurses... who KNOW that pts have a right to refuse. even if everyone knows this, a broken arm...

    Concerned...allnurses store product

i agree w/this statement contextually, except i don't consider them "idiots". as a parent, i was HYPERvigilant w/my littles ones... should i expect all parents to follow suit?

Pressing charges on a psych patient?

i agree. one can be considered competent and still be mentally ill. if this pt makes his own decisions, then you can press charges where he'd be held accountable. if he has a poa, chances are he won't...

A nurse that needs agnger management

because she made it our business?:) she wanted our input. i also have to question, how objective a sister is, of another sibling's character? i was a raving lunatic as a teen (and my sibs agree) but...
