  1. When I first started, I was very nervous, which is totally normal, DO NOT be afraid To ask for help, you will learn nothing, and become one of those "horrible aides" nobody wants to follow when its shift change. Good luck‚ and you'll soon be giving advice to new Cna's before you know it. All of us was once new to the job once before. Just remember that, and you'll be fine. I promise!
  2. Are you serious????/ We are the brave ones that do the things no one else will or wants to do. not only will you deal with poop, you've got vomit, c-diff, pneumonia, MRCA, VRE, Dementia,UTI, Depression, Wandering, punching,Hep. A, B and C, biting, kicking, slapping, bathing, dressing, toileting, dying.....I can go on and on, but that would take days. I hope you get the point. and next time, look it up on this wonderful thing we now call "THE INTERNET" Now that all of us hard working nurses and cna and what have you got a Reallllllllllyyy good laugh from this one, I hope your question has been answered... This really sound like this is not for you. Dont you have kids??? or wipe your own butt???? Now go on, and work as a "med-surg cna" filled with rainbows and candy and smiles, and have fun. Oh and by the way, is there a way to get me on working with you????
  3. As a cna, I understand what you're going through. We get treated as if we're scum on the bottom of their shoes. Families, Patients, fellow co-workers, management...... but what can we do other than put up with it. If you really love what you do, you wont let it get under your skin. As a black female cna with dreads, I have been called just about everything in the book. But I love my patients. I guess it just comes with the Territory. Not all nurses treat us like that. There's one nurse i work with in particular will go above and beyond for me. She knows im a damn good cna, and im really patient with everybody. Ive heard a few coworkers complain in front of the patients. Maybe thats why some nurses are they way they are, they've witnessed some bad things between a patient and a cna (stealing, yelling....)
  4. I agree' if we ever get slammed, our charge nurse usually do the new admit so everybody else isnt trying to play catch up. i personally dont think you shoukd have been given that amout of stress, if eveybody else was sitting down charting, they couldve picked up a little bit of the slack. but i guess thats how alot of the nurses are, every man for themselves, when we are in the same profession, and should work together as a team. or maybe thats just my way of thinking.

i have been a cna for a little over a year, and i heve been thinking about starting a program at one of my local schools. I have watched some of the fellow nurses from work and asked a few questions, some say its been worth it, others say if they could go back to school to do something else, they would. im a little worried, because i know that right now , nursing is something that i want to do, and i care for people alot, i just dont want to get a coupke years in and decide that i dont want to do this. does anybody have any advice?? and are all lpn shifts 12 hrs??
  6. Oh, and I forgot to mention, we used to have fruit punch and sugar free punch, now our patients have water, watered down unsweet tea, milk and Cranberry juice. Wow, right??
  7. Now that facility should be shut down or reprimanded.
  8. Some times nurses act like their **** don't stink. When all the other cnas are busy and you're standing right outside a room I'm in and you're looking at papers on your cart, I ask you to help me with a boost, but you tell me you're waaaayy too busy to step inside this room for 2 seconds. It really ticks me off. But you can stand in The hall and you're phone is going off and you're texting and talking on it like nobody's business, that's all gravy. But when I take out my phone to look at the time, you're ready to run to the unit manager.
  9. OMG!! I couldnt have said it better myself. This is the same way I feel. We have "fine dining" at our facility, and if something happens when you're working in the dining room, its still your fault and it was your assignment. Smh, well don't pick me to work in dining then. One girl got caught faking vitals. She was out the door quicker than a prostitute on the street, but a Physical Therapy assistant can be ambulating a pt with a gait belt and they drop her and she's rushed to The hosp with a broken leg, and its ok. He still has a job. This healthcare field needs some real help.
  10. I have been working at a rehab facility for about 5 months. There are about 4 or 5 cnas covering our floor, about 12 to 15 patients per cna, so i think that this unit is very busy. I make 9.25 on the weekdays and 11.50 on the weekends, they take out a 30 minute lunch break from our paychecks, and we never get to take breaks, which is very upsetting, because they know how busy we are on a day to day basis. I feel that they should give us all an assigned break time like any other employer should. I dont feel that its fair that they take our money, but dont let us get a break. I am very overstressed, and have started looking for employment elsewhere. Is anybody else experiencing this problem or is it just my facility???

  12. I've been a CNA for about 5 months now, I live 20 minutes from Tampa and make 9.25 and 11.25 on sat and sun. I have also found out that once you have worked for a year you get a raise, and plus 9 is what they start new cnas with where I work. Talk about overworked and underpaid.
  13. Do not chart for residents you did not care for. Docters and unit managers will look through it,and you will get caught. Then youll be lying. What if a resident was givin a suppository earlier on in the day, and you put that there were no bm for that day? There is a little simple thing I love called CYA! Cover yours and your license.
  14. I don't see why not. I would've done the same. U care about the person. But maybe if u discussed this persons problems to someone else than maybe that would be a violation.
  15. Well if they called yr references, more than likely you will be hired. Congratulations!!!!

They knew. And I don't think they cared.

My hall partner actually got an attitude about it and all the other CNAs were acting like they were too busy to help me. It actually took a guy on his first day of orientation to get this lady in bed for the night.

I told my hall partner and she looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. The orien t guy tried to show me, and I don't think he was doing it right. The lady said she was slipping and she kept telling him to get someone to help.

Is it wrong to put a CNA on an assignment that needs a hoyer lift and then not show the CNA how to use it because they've never used one?
  20. I only had 3 days of orientation, and on the second and third days the CNA that was working the floor."got sick" and they put me on their assignments. Which kind of sucked because I was a brand new CNA
  21. Our residents do smoke outside. Usually another CNA who smokes goes out with them
  22. Well... i have a 17 month old son and I am a new CNA, and I think it helped me deal with BM better than I thought I would've
  23. I haven't. But it might be the material its made of if its possible
  24. I think you should do what you feel is in your heart. Nobody can really tell u what to do when it comes to your life, you can get plenty of suggestions, but you got to do what you think is best for you. Good luck. Sorry I wasn't much help.
