  1. Oct 2014 CRNE Result COUNTDOWN

No way to expedite it. It takes however long it takes. The CNO (not Ontario Nurses Board) states up front that it can take UP TO 15 business days. Doesn't mean it will, only that they give themselves that much time. They have lots to do right now, ...
  2. Oct 2014 CRNE Result COUNTDOWN

Not to nitpick, but take care not to refer to yourself as an RN - you aren't an RN until you are registered with the college, and a college could take issue with someone using the protected title of RN when not registered. Not trying to be a downer...
  3. Oct 2014 CRNE Result COUNTDOWN

As Notready4primetime mentioned earlier in the thread, typically the smaller provinces such as PEI get results a bit earlier, and Ontario is generally last, although in June a good number of people in Alberta were still waiting while most of Ontario ...
  4. Iv Initiation.

Depends on the facility. Where I work, ANYONE hired has to have 3 witnessed, successful starts during orientation. Even if they've been a nurse for 30 years.
  5. Oct 2014 CRNE Result COUNTDOWN

I wrote in June, on the 4th, and results were mailed out from the CNO on the 9th of July, 5 weeks to the day. This seems to typically be the case, so as others have said, the results will probably be out the later half of next week at the earliest. ...
  6. new grad interview!!

Glad to hear that the interview went well! Sorry to hear about the other one.
  7. new grad interview!!

Relaxingbath, I think you're pretty well covered in terms of cardio-specific things. Plan out some answers to more general questions like: -what would you say is your biggest weakness? -What is your biggest strength? -Tell me about a time you ha...
  8. Did CNO honor the NCLEX passers?

From the CNO's site: "I have already written the NCLEX-RN and passed. Do I need to write it again? On September 18, 2014, the Council of the College of Nurses of Ontario passed a motion to accept successful NCLEX-RN exam writes from the beginnin...
  9. The future of nursing. Everybody is impacted. Big discussion in SK.

I thought so! I went there too. :)
  10. The future of nursing. Everybody is impacted. Big discussion in SK.

    Vintage, are you at Mac?
  11. The future of nursing. Everybody is impacted. Big discussion in SK.

I am both an RPN and an RN. Honestly I feel like I graduated with a degree in paper writing more than anything else. We didn't have a lot of clinical placements, and had no skills classes because there were no new skills to learn. As an RPN, I pr...
  12. Maternity or Mental Health?

If you want maternity as an RPN, start doing your post-grad maternity certificate. You can put that in your cover letters and on your resume, and it will give you a leg up. Competition is stiff for maternity, and there are only a handful of hospital...
  13. CPNRE May 2014

It's normal to question if you passed or not. :) I hope the wait passes quickly for you!
  14. Is it necessary to be a LPN before applying to nursing school?

    1) **************** edited 2) Speaking as someone who is both an RPN/LPN and an RN, I can assure you that at the basis, we are very much on the same footing. Having been through both programs, I can tell you that the difference is not related at al...
  15. Is it necessary to be a LPN before applying to nursing school?

Doing the RPN route first, while it will take you longer, would not be a bad option, IMO. I did it that way, and believe that I gained great experience in doing so. Being an RPN is great, and very fulfilling. I am proud to be one! My reasons for g...
  16. CPNRE May 2014

Last minute tips: 1) Don't study the day before the exam. Take it off to do something fun and relaxing. 2) Go to bed early the night before the exam. 3) Day of the exam, print out some questions you've already done and do them again just before yo...
  17. CPNRE May 2014

First off, I hope you are not JUST starting to review, given that the exam is coming up very soon! Now...do you have the ASItest Study prep guide? Or have you taken their online predictor tests? I'd recommend taking one of the online tests, to gauge...
  18. RPN to BScN Bridging in Ontario: My Experience

It did for me! Finished and looked around and kind of went "wait, what? 3 years have passed by?"
  19. RPN to BScN Bridging in Ontario: My Experience

The program itself is more or less the same (and some teachers teach at both campuses) but there are a few little differences. Clinical will be near Conestoga, but will not be until next year. I had some friends who would just stay with a friend the ...
  20. RPN to BScN Bridging in Ontario: My Experience

At MoMac the first year is just you and other bridging students. It's a lot of "this is how you research! Let's all go to the library, and learn how to look for articles!" as well as A&P and patho on a deeper level than you probably had in your P...
  21. 2 out 500 graduate on time from RPN in Seneca, ture?

Not even the biggest nursing schools have classes of 500! That's a massive exaggeration. If you want to know more about the school's stats, call and ask, or dig around their site. Many schools have something on their site about the percentage of stu...
  22. RPN to BScN Bridging in Ontario: My Experience

When I started, I believe we were a class of about 40-50.
  23. difference between a PSW and a LPN

The PSWs saying that on the FB board are deluding themselves, frankly. As LPNs/RPNs, we are nurses, registered with the college in our province. We are trained to not simply perform tasks, but to understand how the way our patient looks/acts correl...
  24. Coronary care 1 help

I was very lucky in that my manager was very pro-school, so she was very good at accommodating my days I had clinical. As well, I did a lot of trades with co-workers. I took shifts for them on many weekends and even some holidays and in exchange, t...
  25. Advice regarding finding RN employment

Even Burlington and Hamilton are tough. I have years of RPN experience and still can't find a FT RN job in that area. It's even hard to get interviews!
