I think many hospitals will jump at the chance to employ someone who has seen emergency type situations: Broken arms from fights in the cell, dog bites, stab wounds, bullet holes, wound care in general, and can't forget OVERDOSE situations and DETOX....

being friends is alright but each facility has own rules. I would caution against it as significant others sometimes read into it all kinds of thoughts if you befriend a married individual.. That is just my opinion.

Cnas are more tough than bikers hehe.. I am a cna still.

Be kind, courteous, and polite. Know it all people do exist but some cnas do know plenty about their residents which you won't for awhile. They are your eyes and ears. One thing that drives me crazy is staff acting like they don't hear alarms.

Also many ltc facilities experience high turnover and have trouble retaining cnas. You could practically be a no call no show several times and other bad behaviors before a consideration to fire is even given.

Being a CNA sucks.. I am one!!! Ask for a tour. If you have more than 16 residents per assignment I wouldn't do it.. Also look for sit stands, hoyers, lift chairs, lift bath chairs, etc.. Don't get stuck working an prehistoric nursing home.

some hospitals only employ rns to do all nursing care, no cnas. It makes me mad when nurses refuse to do cna work.

I am currently a cna and one of the very few that works at the dementia unit here. I have three years experience yet I make 9 dollars a hour. The pay isn't very generous but I am blessed I have a job none the less. I test for lpn soon..
