  1. Long story short, last November I was brought into my advisor's office and was told that I could not complete nursing school. Naturally, I was livid, since I only had 2 weeks of clinicals left. I was told that I could return, but when I tried to do...
  2. Given the boot 2 weeks before graduation

I was ecstatic when I got the news!
  3. Given the boot 2 weeks before graduation

I just wanted to post an update on this. After a long, uphill battle, I was able to appeal their decision and it ended up being an easy win (took less than 5 minutes). I was even told by the staff at school that they did me wrong, and the instructo...
  4. Given the boot 2 weeks before graduation

I already tried to appeal it. There was no academic or clinical dishonesty involved. There have been a few other students I know who had a similar situation happen in the program, and they ended up switching careers.
  5. voice recorders

I'm a huge fan of the Livescribe pen. I bought it during my undergrad days and fell in love. It records the lectures and you can go back and listen to it as well as converting your written notes to PDF files. I have the one that came out a few yea...
  6. Just Curious- Any double majors out there?

Double majoring in nursing (BSN) and Literature with a minor in physics.
  7. Any luck with Michael Linares SimpleNursing

Interesting that you ask...I was talking with someone yesterday who mentioned the website to me and she said that it is awesome and that her instructors highly recommend it. I usually just use YouTube, but the reviews for the site seem to be very go...
  8. Most depressed I've ever been during nursing school

I think that most of us, if not all, have days like this. Just remember, you went into this for a reason. I know sometimes it's hard to remember what that reason is when you get depressed, but I know the reason is still there. I'm sure that once y...
  9. Oh, this takes me back to last year! I was accepted into my school's program last January for the following fall semester. I really had no idea what to do to prepare, so I mostly went to amusement parks over the summer as well as worked. What I al...
  10. First Day of Nursing School

I wanted to start this thread again. I've seen so many posts about first days and have lived vicariously through those posts. Now, with that first day steadily approaching, I'd like to start my own thread. I start school on the 21st of August, and...
  11. First Day of Nursing School

Oh, I remember that day! I am starting my second semester tomorrow, so I'm not that far ahead of you. It will be a day that you never forget. Just remember to figure out where your classes are early on, so you won't have to rush. Make sure you ge...
  12. First Day of Nursing School

    Who's ready for another semester?
  13. Now, we have all heard of the "On Old Olympus" bit as well as the X-rated methods for remembering the 12 cranial nerves, but the one that I use kinda sticks with me for some reason so I thought that I'd share it with you guys. Here goes: One of our ...
  14. First Day of Nursing School

All right guys, this semester is almost over! How are you all doing?
  15. First Day of Nursing School

How is everyone doing? Our semester is already halfway over, and I can hardly believe it. We've done about half of our assessments, and they've all been a blast. We have had two major tests, 2 medical terms quizzes, and a pop quiz. Overall, I fee...
  16. Where do YOU sit in class?

I sit right in the front row. Then again, I always have. I use a Livescribe pen to record lectures, and it helps a lot by sitting in the front row. Also, the teachers can tell that you are interested (some people like to sleep in the back). Of co...
  17. Flu shots as a student anyone?

I am so glad that someone else understands this concept! I've been reading about it for years.
  18. Want to quit nursing school with 9 months left

Please, I beg of you, talk to someone. My sister was a 3rd year medical student who committed suicide this past April. I know what it's like to be terrified to speak out against your parents, but I am sure that they would rather be mad at you than ...
  19. Killing me softly!

Honestly, I kinda put it in the back of my mind and kept busy doing other things. I figured that if I was going to be disappointed, at least I wouldn't have spent a lot of time dwelling on the unknown. It must have worked; I got my acceptance lette...
  20. UNCW SON

I am a first semester UNCW SON student, and I can tell you that it is awesome! The professors are all very helpful, though a bit intimidating (probably because we are all trying so hard to be perfect). If it makes you feel any better, I had a C in ...
  21. Told to get a rolling backpack. Recommendations?

I have this one: CalPak Diplomat 21-inch Rolling Backpack | Overstock.com It's two backbags in one (you can detach one if you want). Extremely roomy.
  22. First Day of Nursing School

I have my first real quiz this coming Thursday. It is on some of the medical terms that we have learned so far, which is about 300. This past Thursday, we had to do EENT assessments, which were fun. I have already had a few ATI assignments, and mo...
  23. First Day of Nursing School

Just posting an update today. I had my first full week last week and it was awesome but very fast-paced. We got checked off on handwashing with the Glo germ lotion, vital signs, and this week we will be doing catheter care, bedmaking, etc. We have...
  24. I am taking the TEAS V next month ( I won't even get into how stressful that is!), and was wondering if anyone else around the forum was applying by the August deadline. It would be nice to be able to "talk" with others who are in the same boat as I...
  25. First Day of Nursing School

Today was my first official day. I woke up at 7, got my morning routine finished, and was at school by 8. Ate a nice breakfast in the dining hall and walked over to my nursing building, which is right beside the dining hall (thank goodness!). Clas...
