  1. What's your RN to pt ratio for nights?

Our night target ratio is 5:1, max 6:1. We very rarely have 7 patients, and when that happens we have to fill out incident reports and such. Days are target 4:1, max 5:1, with the same protocol if they go to 6.
  2. Share The Weirdest Reasons Patients Push The Call Light

Our call lights ring to our portable phones--so we get the joy of talking to the patients without actually BEING there... From the same (pleasently) confused woman: --(in complete panic) Help! There's a watermelon in my bed! --I smell buring rubber.

In our program, we are required to report any condition, mental or physical, that will affect our ability to provide safe care. If you were unstable, or going through difficult med changes, your professors would need to know-but if your condition is ...
  8. Shiprock Hospital, anesthesia

Northern Navajo is a great hospital--pretty new, most of the doctors are fresh out of school (the government pays their loans if they agree to work there), and its an interesting atmosphere. I'm glad you're from here, people that move to this area fo...

  10. New Mexico for me?

I've never understood what posesses people to move to Gallup... I've been in NW NM (farmington) for most of my life. Being a non-transplant, i'm not too fond of Gallup. The IHS hospital is gorgeous, and I've had fun with my clinicals there--but livin...

  15. Where is your instructor ???

First year: Instructors are assigned to a group of 6 or so--they're floating about the floor. Very accessible... This year's clinicals: We get more freedom--later in the year, we'll be with preceptors. The hospital requires that there be a instructor...

  19. Met my classmates - feel like an old fart

My class has people in their 20s-50s, with one person in her SEVENTIES. I think having the varied ages helps us--different perspectives on things really challenges my thinking.
  20. Why Not Just Do A Bsn Program???

My ADN program has a 95% pass rate and a 100% NCLEX pass rate for the last 5 years. I chose this program over the BSN programs because it has the HIGHEST pass rate in the state, and is generally considered to be an excellent program. I'm planning on...

Does anyone else in the world have to do clinical simulations as a final? This is what we have to do: We are given a pretend patient--dr's orders, etc, and have to give the patient (aka plastic man) care. Its SO hard for me to pretend--I always get m...
