Our night target ratio is 5:1, max 6:1. We very rarely have 7 patients, and when that happens we have to fill out incident reports and such. Days are target 4:1, max 5:1, with the same protocol if they go to 6.

Our call lights ring to our portable phones--so we get the joy of talking to the patients without actually BEING there... From the same (pleasently) confused woman: --(in complete panic) Help! There's a watermelon in my bed! --I smell buring rubber.

Its REALLY hard--but I adore nursing school.

I"m in an ADN program. Most Rn-BSN programs that i"m looking into for post-graduation work take a minimum of 18 months--not long, really.

I'm not sure if this helps, but several of the social workers at the hospital I work at are also RNs.
