I once cared for a ltc resident who stayed on hospice for five years. There was little change in her health during that time. When I asked the hospice nurse how the resident could still qualify for hospice, she said "well, she could go at any minute....
I completely agree! Can we please stop flaming a nurse for believing the CDC and her state health department that she was at low risk for transmitting the virus?? My gosh, she went to visit her family and was given the okay to do so!
1. The deaf resident who rarely speaks, mouths the words "I love you". 2. The resident who is TOTALLY confused, looks right at you, and laughs at your dumb joke. 3. The extremely difficult family says "thank you so much!" Any Others???
I wish you could go after the judge who decided that you could not force a dangerous psych patient to be medicated! Too bad the judge is not available to take care of the patient...

Enjoyed your article, and I feel that I share many of your personality traits. It can be very frustrating when the "good nurse" is the one who sits down, visits with family, serves everyone coffee, visits, is entertaining etc. when actually, there ar...
I work full time in a LTC facility. I've noticed that the nurses that fill in for me frequently do not sign out treatments, change catheters, do skin assessments etc.etc. I get the feeling that I'm expected to perform all of the duties that they NEG...

Well, I have gone to the unit manager, and he says there is "nothing he can do". Incredible, huh? It would be alittle easier to take if others had not told me that the part time staff (who have been here a LONG time) take an hour lunch, many cig brea...
OP-I agree with you COMPLETELY! Wish my life was so sheltered that I could believe, at the age of 89, that death was not a possibility. Gosh, do these people realize much younger individuals die every day. Cussing out the doctor was completely uncal...
Visitors or family members who just STARE constantly. I can PROMISE them that nothing facinating is going to happen while I am pouring colace and calcium. I blame the tv shows like ER for making people believe something ******* awesome is about to ha...
