  1. LOC or ABC first?

I'm a newly licensed AEMT and ABC is always first, in any situation. LOC can be determined while you're assessing airway. breathing, and circulation. Typically you are speaking to your patient, so their level of consciousness quickly becomes apparent...
  2. Men in OB/Peds Nursing....Any thoughts?....

Religious and cultural issues are one thing, but thinking that a nurse cares about your parts in anyway other than a professional way is ridiculous. Modesty is modesty. No one is eager to show their parts to a female nurse either but you get over it ...
  3. Men in OB/Peds Nursing....Any thoughts?....

I feel for you. I really do. I find it hilarious that women are concerned about a man looking at their parts before, during, and after labor and delivery. Nobody cares what your parts look like! Nurse, male and female, have seen plenty of naked bodie...
  4. A&P Notes. What's your method?

when i took a&p, i would read the material in the textbook first, then i would take notes from that. that way when i arrived to class for lecture, i would be familiar with the material. once my instructor started the lecture, i could focus on th...
  5. SMELL

I just do what I need to do to get in, get it done and get out!
  6. Transferring pt tips for 5"1' nurse

I recommend using good body mechanics and getting help when you need it. Also, stay fit. I started working out recently and it has really help with my endurance, flexibility and agility on the job. I hope this helps. Good luck! :)
  7. Sometimes it's hard to tell a drug seeker from a patient in pain.

I'm an AEMT student. I've been taught to treat the pain if they have it. It's not really my problem if they are drug seekers. I just hope if they are, someone is able to get them the resources they need.
  8. CPR for the frail and obese

You may be shocked at what you can do one the adrenaline starts pumping!
  9. Does this make me an "RN snob"?

I think the problem here is interpretation of the role of the non-licensed personnel. It looks like many posters are under the impression these individuals are "acting" like nurses. If there are hired as assistants, i.e. medical assistants, they can ...
  10. Family Members

I would talk to the family and then request a sitter to be in there at all times. You can't expect the family to understand the magnitude of the responsibility the RN has when it comes to a patient.
  11. LPN Student Freakout!

Take a breath! Using proper body mechanics and asking for help when you need it will greatly reduce your risk of injury on the job. We all experience aches and pains as we age. That's just the way it goes. Relax...and hang in there.
  12. HIPPA violation??

In Georgia, pregnancy does not equal emancipation. The parents are still in control of medical care of the minor. The pregnant minor only has control of decisions about care associated with her pregnancy and unborn child.
  13. Possible to pass CNA exams with this book and youtube videos?

I'm sure it's possible to pass the exam using only a book and youtube videos, but do you think that will prepare you to be the best CNA you can be? If being a CNA is not something you intend on putting a genuine effort in, I would not even bother. It...
  14. Job posting- "Must not be overweight"

:igtsyt: I guess I'll be the bad guy here. Why is it offensive to ask an employee to maintain a healthy weight? You can ask an employee not smoke. So what's the difference? It's a health issue. Obesity is a big issue now. And, if losing weight meant ...
  15. A payroll card instead of a check???

i worked for a company that used a payroll card instead of checks. the company that issues the card gave us the option to get generic checks associated with the account. every payday i just wrote a check to myself for the full the full amount of my p...
  16. my problem with allnurses...why so pessimistic?

What? I've never been on a forum that is full of happy go lucky threads all of the time. Have you considered the demographic of the people posting to this forum? They are from all over. So what you may think is "inaccurate" may be exactly what a diff...
  17. ACLS Prep

Hello, I'm taking an ACLS course later in the month. Are there any suggestions for materials I should review? Thanks, Suburban.Raider.11
  18. I need help interpreting my NLN score!!!!!!!!

I thought your composite score was the one that mattered. Contact your institution to find out what portion of your score they are looking at.
  19. ACLS Prep

Thank you for the links. Very helpful and easy to understand.
  20. ACLS Prep

It's less about nerves and more about preparation. I don't have EKG experience, so I want to make sure I get somewhat familiar with the basics of the course. I do appreciate your input and I'll certainly pay close attention in class.
  21. New to home health...what's in your bag?

Thank you! I've been taking my books with me to study. There isn't much else to do once the client goes to sleep.
  22. New to home health...what's in your bag?

I just accepted a job at a home health agency as a caregiver. I'm really excited about it. I'm curious to know what to bring along with me, especially for overnight assignments. Thanks!
  23. New to home health...what's in your bag?

Thanks! Do you use a backpack or some other type of bag?
  24. after my interview, I've been invited in for a job shadow

    Good luck!
  25. Hovering (a tiny vent)

My instructor stresses to us (CNA students) the importance of being assertive and confident when dealing with residents, co-workers, and family members. Last night during clinical, I was paired with a young lady who was very passive and she hovered. ...
