  1. Hello, I am a BSN RN and am a US citizen working in Vermont. I want to immigrate to NS and eventually go for Canadian citizenship, after which I'll give up the US citizenship. My question is directed at other US citizens who have immigrated to Canada...
  2. Breath smells like moth balls

Any problems with urination? Sometimes kidney failure will cause people to be malodorous because its a way for the body to try and rid itself of toxins. He also may have a pharygeal pouch or something that is filling with food that could cause the od...
  3. Drug book survey for new grads

I actually found that by purchasing a palm pilot (I got a Tungsten E for about $200) it saved me a lot of money since I didn't need to purchase new drug books every year. I use Epocrates, which is free for PDAs with the Palm OS and find it thorough e...
  4. How long did you wait to take the NCLEX?

I actually hand carried my state board registration paperwork around to obtain the required signatures and then hand delivered it to the board. I walked out with my permit that day and then registered for the NCLEX via the internet two weeks later af...
  5. What to bring first day on job?

I brought stethoscope (wipe down with alcohol prep after each pt to reduce the rusk of pathogen transmission), 4 colour pen, trauma shears, hemostat, penlight. Once at work I filled up with the day's prep pads, a tourniquet for IV starts, roll of tap...

what a fantastic idea! the only thing i would want is to be sure i have a laptop and isp with a lot of access numbers to accomodate the moving about. one hotel i know of has a patron who books a room (always the same one) for 6 weeks a year......
  7. Immigration to Canada from the US--time frame question

Yes, the US does permit dual citizenship but I would prefer Canadian citizenship. You have to renounce one citizenship somewhere when it comes time to retire anyhow, as they obviously do not want people claiming retirement benefits in both countries.
  8. New Job

Hooray...I landed my first nursing job and it was as easy as falling off a log. After sending out resumes and applications with little in the way of results I dolled up in business attire (complete with shoes designed by the Marquis de Sade), printe...
  9. New Job

I got my temporary license yesterday, just in time to start work next Monday. I'm so relieved that it came in time. I spent a lot of time on the road driving around to ensure I had the proper signatures and paperwork to obtain it, but it was a long f...
  10. New Job

Most of my classmates landed jobs quite easily which was encouraging. I start in two weeks...lets hope my temporary nursing license arrives in time! I'll take my boards after I get one or two paycheques so I can afford the fee.
  11. You know you're canadian when...

*lol* Everytime I am in Canada I buy a boatload of Smarties, custard powder, all dressed chips, roast beef chips. and timbits, among other things...I get teased about my choice of groceries, but its got to tide my entire family over for a month or tw...
  12. It's Allllllllll In The Nurse's Cap!

Good idea...they have a variety of styles, most from Kay's Caps and its a way of getting around the rather large minimum order at Kay's. I just ordered 20 caps for my graduating class and will be putting ribbon on them as soon as they arrive--probabl...
  13. You Know You're a Nurse When...

Lets see...where to start? My kids know not to tell me they have a sore throat unless its real, because I will swab them and do a quick strep test, then plate out the second swab and culture it at work. My flower vase is a urinal... If I miss a coup...

  16. New grad from US to move to Canada

I'm graduating from a BSN program in Vermont in May of this year and have a two year work commitment in the States before I can immigrate. I've spoken with the Nurse's Union in Nova Scotia and learned that I can sit for the Canadian boards as soon as...
  17. Working? in Canada.

How did the exam go? I will be a new grad in one month and plan on sitting for the CRNE at the first opportunity after passing my NCLEX-RN. I have a two year work commitment in Vermont after graduation, but plan on immigrating to Nova Scotia once th...

  19. It's Allllllllll In The Nurse's Cap!

Where are you purchasing your caps? I will be graduating with my BSN in May and want a cap for my graduation photos, but have yet to find a source for one. If I wanted a cheesy nursing fetish cap with sequined trim I would be all set, but the real th...
