  1. Disturbing Conversation on Overweight Healthcare Workers

I wonder if there are studies as to hourly rounding and obesity. I just dont see the heavier nurses leaving their seat. We have trackers at our facility for call bell responses. I would imagine there are disparities and others are forced to pick up t...
  2. Tell on yourself, if you dare...

Had a comfort care patient with a heartbeat of like 5 per minute with agonal breathing. Super close to dead. I call the doc and tell him he is dead, doc checks on patient and he asks, "what is the definition of dead?" He died 2 hours later = no heart...
  3. Tell on yourself, if you dare...

I spiked my bag, didnt "off" the roller and spilled some down the infusion pump. Family complained. A small amount is a huge mess. I am super careful now.

  7. Yikes! Flu Shot!

I don't think we should give the air bubble. It's just there to protect the small dose in the vial from prematurely ejecting!😀shoot out the air 1st. It probably hurts more if injected.
  8. What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?

One evening in an empty room there was a creepy face on the TV which was off and upon closer view it was just the furniture arrangement reflection. We took pictures of it (creep face) and I hope I never a spend a night in the room! The next week a PA...

  10. Any suggestions for a great RN to BSN school EXCLUSIVELY online?

Western Governors university. Online and if you do it soon out of school you may get a grant. 4000 each semester and I did it in 2. 3 is more common. I only paid 1500$ my first 15 units. A semester is 6 months long. One class at a time.
  11. Failed NCLEX-RN Aug 2015

Kaplan for me but in reality it was nursing school that was the prep for NCLEX. Scares me that one would think they are smart enough to not have to study for their big nursing test. Use your concepts from school. I have noticed that the smart ones ar...
  12. "How did that get there?"

Insulin pen and a metoprolol 100 that needed to be returned to pixis. I try to empty pockets to my nurse bag for this reason. I live 45 min away. I don't think I could even drive back. I might fall asleep.
  13. Great Apps for Great Nurses

I love nurses pocket drug guide. I pay the $10. It's so worth it for a speedy lookup and no internet.
  14. New grads in specialties without the basics

Agree so much with bluedawn, she describes my clinical experience. I still feel like I really haven't seen what a nurse does. I just do my own thing in med-onc. It's been 3 years since graduation. I am a good nurse who seems to still do too much CNA ...
  15. 33 Credits down, 1 credit left

It took me a year to get through 34 credits! I so remember waiting for the portfolio to be graded. Graded Jan 1st 2014! RN to BSN. Very glad I did it but glad it's over. Got my $1.53 raise but our name badges no longer honor the BSN. RN only now. Are...
  16. Not Loving Being a Nurse

I feel your pain. I too spent 5 years to be a nurse and I love some aspects but the learning curve is steep and painful. My husband is tired of hearing how hard I work and no lunch, no breaks. Those mental trips when you go home get better (actually ...
  17. Does your facility encourage to work while sick?

To the young nurses... start exercising before you develop cankles. Thats just terrible. Dx: HF coming soon. Rx: hit the gym. Our profession is physically tough we need to live health lifestyles and manage our weight and health better than our patien...
  19. WGU RN-BSN in 1 1/2 years??

WGU took me 12 months. Really depends on how many units you need to complete, which you won't find out until you complete the enrollment process and the assessment exam. I was able to complete 15 units my 1st semester and 16 the second. The classes w...

  24. Massage courses for nurses

I try to incorporate a little massage into my nursing but time is limited. The knowledge of massage helps me better connect with my patients on a physical level. I am a new RN 1.5yr and a massage therapist for 14yrs.
  25. What is your Achilles heel?

I like all the gross stuff but don't understand nurses who can't stomach this stuff. Isn't this why we became nurses to help our patient's bodily functions not endanger them..... the grosser the better, that's why I am at the bedside.
